Ok, here's the thing: I loved that episode. I have now seen it about 5 times (well, they repeated it and it's on BBCi Player and it's on my Sky+ box - the temptation was too great).
I feel that I am allowed to rub it in, by the way, given that you can all get House without having to resort to nefarious means
Is it next Wednesday yet?

I can't wait to watch it again!

Cakey and Fiddy, what was your favorite part?
For me, it's a toss up between SPOILER--> the 'make-out/fight' scene and the 'Jack/Ianto in the office' scene. My least favorite was the Jack/Gwen scene. Forcing the het much? I even liked Owen. I never thought I'd say that about Mr. Lizard Lips. <--SPOILER

I'd actually have to agree with you, sauty, on all accounts!
So many great lines last night. The innuendo (was it even innuendo? It was more like outuendo!) was flying thick and fast. Lots of good action too.
The previews makes the rest of the season look ace!

I really enjoyed it, too. Lots of fun, something I thought was lacking in the few episodes I saw of Series One. I might just become a Torchwood fangirl.

*facepalm* I really need to work on understanding accents better.

? What, HtR? What do you mean? I must be completely spacing out. Can you post the reference (and spoiler it)?

So, here's what I've been wondering about the first episode. -->SPOILER It seems like Gwen acted as first in command while Jack was away. Why is that? She's hasn't worked there as long as the rest of the team. Not to mention the fact that she exhibited some really questional behavior during the first season. But so did the rest of the team, so I guess we can't hold that against her.
It seems to me that TPTB made her first in command because Eve Myles is the female lead. But continuity wise, it doesn't make sense. I've fanwanked that Owen couldn't take the position because he had to devote most of his time to the medical side of things. And Tosh had to devote too much time to the technical stuff. But what about Ianto? SPOILER<--
Hail the Random- 01-18-2008
Gwen did say that she'd been in charge while Jack was away. I don't really get it either, though.
I was also thinking that, since Gwen, Tosh, Ianto, and Owen opened the Rift in the last episode, are they partially responsible for Cptn. John coming through the Rift? (Not that I really minded or anything...)
sautomne- 01-18-2008
I thought that the rift was always partially opened. Isn't that how Diane and her crew ended up in present day Wales? They accidentally flew into the rift, no?
Hail the Random- 01-18-2008
Yeah, well, it's more reactive now than it was before.
Like I said, just thinking. Which is very dangerous for me to do.

Interesting point, sauty. Also, wasn't it mentioned in the first season that SPOILER--- After Suzie died (she was Jack's second in command) that Owen was second in command or am I hallucinating that little bit of info. I was VERY surprised that Gwen was leading the team, but my guess is that after all the uproar last season, she may have just pushed ahead and taken over that role. Owen may have been feeling chastised by his treasonous behavior in Season 1 and not feeling ready to assert him self, Tosh never would step up out of insecurity/shyness and I'm sure Ianto was too preoccupied over Jack's dispppearance. Also, it's more of his nature to serve than lead, it seems. Gwen's nature, however, is to barge on in. ;-) So that's my fanwank. :-) ---SPOILER
sautomne- 01-18-2008
fiddy, -->SPOILERyou're not hallucinating. Owen was second in command after Suzie died. And I do agree that Gwen's nature is to barge in, but I guess I just find that to be an annoying quality. What can I say? I'm hard to please. I want to see more assertive female characters on the telly, but I'm often left unsatisfied with the way such characters are executed. I like Gwen, I really do. Jack obviously thinks, she's special, so I get the feeling that TPTB want viewers to feel the same way. I don't feel like she's exhibited any behavior that makes her any more special than the other characters. Maybe it's the writing that leaves me unconvinced.

I heard that about Owen as well, in S1 as a matter of fact. So it does perplex me that Gwen is the one acting in charge. Did it just work out that she was the better tactical leader as a former cop? It was the first thing I was wondered after I watched it.
I am glad that TPTB took their time though with their production problems that Elisabeth Sladen hinted at last year. The extra time shows.
And why did Marsters' character seem so Master-like? There were lines and mannerisms that were identical, IMHO, to John Simm.<--

I was able to watch the season premier here!! Wouhou  (and House season 3 was aired in the same time!)
Is it me or the Gwen/Jack "love" scene was getting out of nowhere? I saw season one a long time ago, but I never felt this?
They also seem to build something between Tosh and Owen, aren't they?
I loved the scene in the office between Ianto and Jack! :D And James Marsters is just great!!!
:D :D
I love it! Torchwood is back!!
