That is just not fair. We finally have a winning mix. Why destroy it? Because Chibnall is leaving at the end of S2 - he certainly made his mark.
That would explain a lot. And did Chibnall happen to write Cyberwoman too?
Yup. See: The good, the bad, and the ugly (and not Gene Hunt):
S01E02 Day One
S01E04 Cyberwoman
S01E06 Countrycide
S01E13 End of Days (12 depending on source)
S02E01 KKBB
S02E11-13
So you can clearly see that his work has a rather broad range of quality. And from what I hear, RTD is still rather involved in the script-approval process for TW.
As for his Doctor Who credits, we can further appreciate the episode "42." Whatever you thought of it (Mom laughed through it today - really, a pub quiz being the secret mechanism to unlock the doors?).
I just don't get how he got so much power so fast at the BBC. He was a sports writer, then he wrote for the show "Born and Bred." Now, I haven't seen it so I can't critique it. Then, two episodes for "Life on Mars," and the episode were not the highest quality for the show (IMO - S01E07 and S02E02). How did he go from just a writer to co-producer for Torchwood so fast? Was it a ploy to get him away from writing scripts? Becuase, if so, it didn't work.
Ah, Chibnall-bashing. It's such a fine art (there's a reason I keep calling the nursing mannequins Chris Chibnall instead of Chris Casey - courtesy of a Freudian slip of course).
ETA - he was a "...football archivist and floor manager for Sky Sports, before leaving the television industry for a time to work as an administrator for various theatre companies." His only time in drama has been since 2002 in some capacity. While it is something to add to the CV, it still isn't much in my book.

AZ, have you been reading the TW-UK thread at TWoP? One of the posters found an old Doctor Who magazine (from 1985 or so) that contained some 'fan poetry'. One of the poems was written by a young CC. Apparently he's been involved in the fandom from the time he was a young 'un.

Yeah, I saw that when whoever linked to Old Country posted. I still don't trust that man with my show.
It would help if he had some other credits behind him prior to "Born and Bred." Other than being a theater manager and his time at Sky Sports. Of course, UK football and US football (and sports coverage) are a world apart and I should give him more credit.
But still... Cyberwoman.
It's going to take a lot for my innocent brain to forgive for that. KKBB has helped. The finale had better be as awesome as that or I go uberfan on Chibnall. You don't want that.

Every time I read TW spoilers, I get so angry. I've got to stop looking at them to keep my blood pressure from spiking. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, folks.

I'm not actually allowed to re-post the spoilers - they come from a private board (Cold Dead Seed). They are posted on doctorwhoforum.com however, but that's a private board too. It's really easy to get access to it though.
They're detailed. I just... I'm actually really looking forward to the episode now, in a sort of sick, twisted way. I don't know. I think my brain is still dead from the... wtf-ness of it all.
You see, I can no longer bash Chibnall, because he wrote KKBB, which is quite possibly my all-time favourite TW episode. I also kind of loved Countrycide, but I don't think that had anything to do with the writing, so...
Still. Day One, Cyberwoman, 42.
sautomne- 03-17-2008
Cakey, I liked Countrycide too. It is sort of horrible, but I'm too big a fan of horror movies to not appreciate it.
I've read to spoilers at doctorwhoforum.com. I just wasn't sure if whoever reposted them had included everything.
But Cyberwoman, 42, and End of Days, UGH! Cyberwoman is so bad that even KKBB can't make up for it.
Hail the Random- 03-17-2008
42?
Oh yeah. Doctor Who. *facepalm*
I liked Countrycide, Day One, and KKBB. End o' Days, I can take it or leave it. Cyberwoman... brain bleach, please!

Adrift:
Holy fuck. How on earth did a Gwen-centric episode just become one of my all-time favourites?
Wow. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and then this? AND CHRIS CHIBNALL LEAVES NOW?!?!
fffaw- 03-19-2008
Ah crap! The ep is still not up at my special place. Wah!
sautomne- 03-19-2008
Yes, but how was the HoYay?
Plot be damned!
My sympathies, fiddy! I'm in the same situation. :(
fffaw- 03-19-2008
sauty - it just went up!
407- 03-19-2008
Oh Sauty. The Jack/Ianto... well, if all those (admittedly deranged) people can't accept that they're sleeping together after that, I honestly don't know what more the show can do.
I'm also quite certain that Rhys and PC Andy could be very happy together, if they ever decided to give it a go...
Hail the Random- 03-19-2008
I thought we already had direct proof that Jack and Ianto were sleeping together... ;)
sautomne- 03-19-2008
Oh! So that's what the greenhouse is for!
fffaw- 03-19-2008
Wow. That episode blew me away. I'm not ashamed to admit that the ending made me cry. Bravo to Rhys for reading Gwen the riot act. It was about time.
Naked Hide and Seek? Nice.
