Poeia- 01-23-2008

Well, I saw an article where they said that it's actually really hard to O.D. on sleeping pills, and my coworker said something about how prescription pills and over the counter stuff should never mix because of the different chemicals. Any meds can interact with others things, especially other medications. The effect grapefruit has on some medications is well know. When your doctor asks what you are taking, include everything. My list has vitamins, calcium, Claritin and the occasional Advil on it. None of those should be a problem, but I don't know enough about the prescriptions I take to be sure. That "church" is pathetic. Don't you just love how, when people want to use religion to justify their hate, they get very selective about the parts of the Bible (or Koran or whatever) they choose to remember. Hopefully his daughter will be taught that her father was involved in a movie important enough to make the bigots hate him like that.

Well, I saw an article where they said that it's actually really hard to O.D. on sleeping pills, and my coworker said something about how prescription pills and over the counter stuff should never mix because of the different chemicals. (I don't know if it's true but it sounds good to me.) Yeah, I don't know how easy it is to OD, but the wrong combination of pills involving sleeping pills can be a bad thing. For that matter, even taking one pill has a strange effect on some people, so if he was doubling up (especially if he was really sick) cardiac arrest is a definite possibility. I was fine and then I was looking back through the Oh no they didn't LJ feed and someone quoted that "I hate the way you..." thing from 10 Things I Hate About You" and that set me off. I love that movie, but I think watching it now will be painful. I have a weird attachment to that movie. I used to call it a guilty pleasure, but it's actually a good, nice movie. Nothing guilty there. And there's nothing better than the serenade. Is now the time to say that one of my former TAs at the University of Kansas actually joined the Westboro Baptist Church? Willingly? Yikes. It's pretty scary, all of it. I haven't yet seen the Thereoux movie (and only recently found out that he was connected, having only read vague "coming soon" notes about it), but I want to. In fact, after I read a blurb and finally connected the two, I realized that I really miss having Louis Thereoux on American television. I did have the doc that Showtime was airing on Phelps in the tivo for awhile. I kept deleting it and rerecording it later because I wanted to see it, I just couldn't make myself watch it.

Didn't he also have pneumonia? MSNBC mentioned he had been ill with it recently.

jonne- 01-23-2008

God, that made me feel sick. I saw the docu-mentary you mentioned, these people are deranged. So much hate, all in the name of religion!Let's hope they won't make it to Australia. Thank you wary, for that lovely story. How terribly unfair life is sometimes.

amysusanne- 01-23-2008

Didn't he also have pneumonia? MSNBC mentioned he had been ill with it recently. It was mentioned rather gossippy-like yesterday around the same time that people started saying he was at MKO's apartment, but it seems to have stuck a bit and now seems to have been a legitimate piece of information. I guess we'll find out more as all the facts start to fall into place after the autopsy.

arizonamyrie- 01-23-2008

The MKO thing was that her bodyguard was a certified EMT that the masseuse called while the housekeeper called 911.

I have a weird attachment to that movie. I used to call it a guilty pleasure, but it's actually a good, nice movie. Nothing guilty there. And there's nothing better than the serenade. It was my group of friends' favorite movie in junior high/high school. We can still quote bits of it, and we do often at each other: BIANCA: There's a difference between like and love. Like, I like my Sketchers, but I love my Broder (sp?) backpack. FRIEND: I love my Sketchers! BIANCA: That's because you don't have a Broder backpack. I mean, we're in our 20's now but that quote has never stopped being funny to us. Oh, and the serenade is beautiful, oh yes it is. It's why I became a fan of Heath Ledger, really. I mean when you're fourteen your hormones are flying in every direction anyway. *g* And I don't know why that's one of the first things that pops in my head when I think of him. I think in times like these your brain thinks of the people closest to you and that quote is so 'important' to me and my friends, in some strange way.

It was mentioned that the housekeeper heard him snoring loudly, sometime around noon. I knew a very healthy young man who died of sleep apnea during a bout with the flu, so I thought of that right away when I read it. The autopsy is scheduled for today, so although the toxicology will take some time, they may discover the immediate COD pretty quickly, if not the cause of the cause. I believe the old-school, narcotic sleep aids were more dangerous than the current crop, but an undiagnosed condition, heck, even OTC cold meds can make a difference. So many things can either exaggerate or neutralize a drug's effect. And if he had pneumonia, then respiratory or cardiac arrest may have resulted. Actually, some doctors are shockingly unaware of drug/drug and food/drug interactions. I always double-check with my pharmacist, a reassuringly knowledgeable guy with a completely up to date database on the computer he calls "Hal". He's more than once caught some potential food issue and advised me accordingly. jonne, Matilda was bundled up, because it was cold that day, so I wouldn't recognize her if I fell over her. But I vividly remember how they smiled at each other. I almost wish I didn't, it's so painful.

amysusanne- 01-23-2008

The MKO thing was that her bodyguard was a certified EMT that the masseuse called while the housekeeper called 911. That's what the real connection turned out to be or that was another rumour? I hadn't heard anything about that, only that it was alleged to be an apartment owned by MKO. She released a statement saying that that information was not true. I love my Broder (sp?) backpack. Prada? Oh, and the serenade is beautiful, oh yes it is. It's why I became a fan of Heath Ledger, really. I mean when you're fourteen your hormones are flying in every direction anyway. *g* Yeah...and it helped that it was genuinely funny.

Namaste- 01-23-2008

According to the LATimes, the initial autopsy was inconclusive, so they'll have to wait for the tox screen to come back in 10 days or so.

arizonamyrie- 01-23-2008

Wow. Poor Heath. I had pneumonia in the middle of summer a few years ago, and the cough medicine, OTC cold medicine, and antibiotics were enough to knock me out alone. The pneumonia itself was enough to knock me out. Then, in his case, add in anythingeverything else.

oufti- 01-23-2008

Thanks warycary for telling us your nice meeting with him and his daughter. Poor little 'boutchou'.

galaxygirl- 01-23-2008

TMZ is reporting that there were narcotics found in the apartment and bills with drugs residue on it, rolled a certain way that made the cops suspicious. Also found were Xanax, Valium and Ambien. FWIW.

amysusanne- 01-23-2008

Unrelated: I enjoy that TMZ felt that they needed to report that Steve Carell was stuck with jury duty at the same time Britney was due in court. I also enjoy that Britney was appearing to appeal to Commisioner Gordon.

galaxygirl- 01-23-2008

The fact that he is named commissioner Gordon gives me the giggles every time I see his name.
