Movies There are a lot of good movies out there that have nothing to do with House. There is where you can discuss them.

Has anyone seen the movie "Interview" with Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller? It was 15 bucks at Walmart yesterday and it almost became my impulse buy before sanity reminded me that Christmas is this week and there's no need to buy things when gift cards could be in my future. I netflixed it so that I wouldn't forget it existed, but I'm just wondering if anyone has seen it and has an opinion on it. I vaguely remember it getting a lot of Sundance buzz, but my interests were elsewhere when it came out. The cover box made it sound a little like "Before Sunrise" with a lot more hate thrown in.

It's a remake of this Dutch movie. I haven't seen either movie though.

I'm really excited about the new Batman movie. It looks so good and the Joker looks uber creepy. I can't wait!

I saw the six minute prologue, and as a result, I'm anticipating The Dark Knight more than any movie in years. I'm also convinced that a major reason I liked the first one, apart from the tonal difference from most superhero films, is the absolutely magnificent score.

I can't wait either. I was surprisingly impressed with Batman Begins and I was really impressed with Christian Bale.

The score is indeed brilliant. I think they have done a good job on the casting, Christian Bale is great as Batman, maybe even better than Michael Keaton and that's saying a lot because I adore Keaton's Batman. I love Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, all brilliant actors.
The best part of The Dark Knight is no Katie Holmes, she was by far the weakest link in Batman Begins. Maggie Gyllenhaal is a much better actress, so I'm holding out hope that she will do a much better job.
Heath Ledger looks unrecognizable as the Joker, I love that. He's such a great actor who can pull off so many different roles.
Also, Batman Begins had a Dutch actor in it, that always helps with me ;)

Rutger Hauer?
ITA on Katie Holmes. Compared to the rest of the cast of the first film, it was like playing the game "Which of these is not like the others?"

 I think that's the best way I've ever heard it described. I was so happy to find out she wouldn't be in the sequel. With all of the brilliant actors in the first one, I don't know what they were thinking when they cast her.

Yes, Rutger Hauer. Batman Begins and Blade Runner are the only two of his US movies I can stomach. He made some brilliant Dutch ones though.
That description is spot on. I was cringing through her scenes. She was so painfully out of her league, I seriously wonder who thought that this was a good idea when they were casting.

I did see the Dutch version and liked it, mostly because of the male lead. I'm not a great fan of Buscemi, and since it's 90 minutes of 2 actors in 1 apartment, that would make it difficult to watch this one.

All this Dark Knight talk is getting me excited for it all over again. I like the way they've been taking the Batman series. Less cartoon-like. The Joker looks very creepy. I remember hearing about the casting of Heath Ledger months and months ago and my mind kept screaming "Mistake! Huge mistake!" But he looks like he's really awesome in this film. I can't wait.
Oh, and galaxygirl, I think you were the one who mentioned that you want to see Sweeny Todd. If you haven't, go. Now. Because it's absolutely wonderful. (Even though my sister had to tell me when to look away, because I just can't stomach that kind of thing.) Best stage-to-screen adaptation I've ever seen. The performances were great. I had one little complaint, but I won't mention it, as it may ruin it for some people, and I don't want that. But yes, it was really well done.

I've never heard of the Dutch film and given my lack of interest when the US version came out, I didn't realize it was a remake. According to netflix, it's on it's way now, so this weekend we'll see if it was worth any time at all.
As for actors...using the "Before Sunrise" example, I didn't care for Julie Delpy at all before seeing that (and still don't tend to spend much time on her now), but I thought that was a lovely movie. Sometimes actors you don't care about surprise you if the material's good. Unfortunately, in this case, I have no idea if the material's good or not.

I think she was riding a wave of goodwill and a little critical buzz from a few smaller but borderline impressive performances. People really liked her in "Pieces of April". She was just out of her league with this one. She's not the least bit suited for something like "Batman". Still, even if she'd been magnificent and/or the whole Tom Cruise crazy train hadn't come along, she probably still wouldn't have been in the new film.
The only thing I ever really liked Katie Holmes in (aside from the occasional "Dawson's Creek" that managed to suck me in) was "Go". I love "Go".

Can anyone with knowledge of these things tell me how much singing there is in Sweeney Todd? My dad has an anti-musical stance that has not been broken in all my years. And Johnny Depp isnt quite the insta-sell for him it is for me.
My parents are threatening to watch The Punisher (? Yeah, I don't know but it souds sucky) but there is a glimmer of hope that I can talk them into going to the movies if there is a minimal amount of singing in the movie.
Or maybe a lot of blood or something.
Help me!

The Broadway show was a lot of singing. And talk-singing. But it's not My Fair Lady. It's more grande guinol (is that how it's spelled).
But if he totally hates any singing, it's not for him.
