sweet fern, please don't take this the wrong way, I ask strictly out of curiousity. Do you not like Wilson? I'm just curious, I'm not attacking, it's just that I can't quite tell with you.

Anybody bowing to my superior insight on anything is a violation of the natural laws of the universe! Anyway, I'm not saying that Wilson is or isn't a workaholic. I was just wondering what people's take was on it. Re the staying late to complete the paperwork to get his patient's into a clinical trial before the deadline, I too thought that was strange but maybe they were brand new patients. That's something else I've wondered about, what exactly Wilson's patient load is. House is one a week (it's canon!), Cuddy seems to be just occasional patients (with no connection to her specialty), Wilson seems to have multiple patients at any given time.

I always assumed that Wilson was a workaholic - yet severel people have pointed out he always does seem to be hanging around with House. i guess he's the head of Oncology so he gets to deligate.

Honestly, LightMyCandle, I don't know if I like Wilson or not. I adore RLS and Wilson is definitely quite likeable (well, loveable) and I very much enjoy most of his screentime--he and House/HL have great chemistry-- but I have grown to hate his stance toward House. The big lie conspiracy about House's diagnosing of Richard, the forced (cruel and medically unsound) detoxing, walking out on the OD and the anvilicious way he is presented as and seems to see himself as the Great House Whisperer when I don't think he is have been serious strikes against him for me. It also bothers me a lot that House got and gets shit from everybody about the Tritter arc even though he actually did apologise not only to Tritter but also (and I am convinced sincerely) to Wilson, neither Wilson nor Cuddy has ever apologised or been held accountable for the imho horrible stuff they did to House which, again in my opinion, were significant contributors to the who Tritter mess. Also, for me, the prozac mickey finn stunt was ethically heinous--kind of a hot button for me which is of course not Wilson's fault. His holier than thou attitude toward House really grates considering what we know about how screwed up Wilson's personal life is. It just all accumulates. Like, my response to his speech to House about not liking change just made me want to say, "Right, stability (living in the same apartment for ten years, holding on to things you value, etc.) is a way worse character attribute than any you have Dr. Divorced-Three-Times-Living-in-a-Hotel.... Kind of like, I like him in person but when I think about his words and deeds  later he aggravates me.

You seem to have a very conflicting relationship with the guy. You do bring up good points and I can certainly understand someone not liking him for the legitimate reasons you've stated. I disagree on a lot of them but I won't get into it right now.

Kind of like, I like him in person but when I think about his words and deeds  later he aggravates me. Sweet baby jesus, that kind of characterization is like crack to me. I would snort it if I could. My soul might be broken.

Oh, Sweet! What a great summary about Wilson. You list all the reason why I love him! He so, so messed up! Much more than House (IMO) and yet you couldn't say you hate him. I think Wilson is one of the most fascinating characters I've ever seen in a tv show, as well his relationship with House.

Jouse- 10-08-2007

I agree whole-heartedly, Lully. And I think that's why House loves the guy too.

LightMyCandle- 10-08-2007

I think Wilson is one of the most fascinating characters I've ever seen in a tv show, as well his relationship with House. ITA. The Wilson that was shown at the beginning of the series seemed like a typical guy. Well-adjusted, normal, happy, and kind of boring. If that was all there is to him, I probably wouldn't love him as much as I do. It was when we started digging deeper into the character and all of his flaws started to come out that he became the most interesting character (except House) on the show for me. I'm certainly not happy with everything he does but I love him anyway. The fact that we don't know everything about him and that he's not who he seems to be is what keeps me (and House) interested and loving to have him around.

NIeded- 10-08-2007

It seems to me like all the strikes against House have been accumulating more and more. The detox in season one stood alone, and in season 2 not much happened besides him sleeping with Grace -- granted that was a big ethical no-no. In season 3, that's when all the big things hit. It's also when the writers portrayed Wilson as kind of push-over and a bad doctor which I firmly believe he isn't. Plus with the hotel living, I think these are all signs of some sort of slow melt down. I'm not saying that any of Wilson's actions are justifiable, but I still love the guy wholly and completely. At least I hope it's a meltdown; I'd really hate to think the writers have lost their grip on who exactly Wilson is.

LightMyCandle- 10-08-2007

Plus with the hotel living, I think these are all signs of some sort of slow melt down. I kept waiting for that and I think it took the form of Resignation. Presumably, Wilson got how pathetic his life had become and that he was depressed and did something about it. Sure, it wasn't a big dramatic breakdown, which I admit I would've liked to see, but at least it was addressed and based on his mood so far this season, I think it's only a matter of time before he moves out of the hotel. I think that S3 was definately the low season for him. Again, judging by what we've seen so far, I'm hoping it's all uphill from here for Wilson.

idonmatrix- 10-09-2007

Yes I could definitely use some "uphill Wilson" But I love Wilson no matter how he comes. The character has a lot of texture, which feeds my interest. There's nothing about Wilson that I don't love.

lf2871- 10-09-2007

Have to agree with Lightmycandle on this - I think we've hit Wilsons lowest point so far. It's so good to see him happy in season four though! Bless!

idonmatrix- 10-09-2007

Hmm. I don't see Wilson as being happier. He seems to be more confident and more direct and playful in dealing with House. His suffering silently days seem to be a thing of the past.

He seems to handle things better, I think that he's doing better and I believe that he is indeed on AD's, hence him appearing to be more content in his life. I hope he moves out of that hotel soon, it's been way too long already.
