Technically, this isn't my bitterness rant, but I was chatting on the phone last night with a friend--a friend whom I got hooked onto House when I bought him the DVDs of season 1 for his birthday several years ago--and he was telling me how much he disliked the current season, called it a trainwreck, hated all the 13 exposure, etc. etc. (For the record, his favorite episode is "Sleeping Dogs Lie" and he really likes Foreman.) He then segued into his current description of Foreman: "He sits around drinking coffee & reading magazines while everyone else works. Foreman's become a teamster!" I couldn't help cracking up at that.

IHARTHUGH- 10-07-2008

Yeah, Foreman's role is really pitiful. They try to figure out things for him to do, but it's pretty artificial. I sure as heck hope TPTB come up with something organic to the storyline that resolves this weakness.

I definitely agree about Foreman. His role this season seems to mostly involve glaring at the new ducklings, following them around every now and then, and sitting in the corner making occasional complaints. Give the poor guy his own team - He's clearly not happy where he is! - - - And ditto on the Wilson thing too. I wasn't expecting him to make an appearance in the last episode, but was surprised (and disappointed) that House didn't even mention him. There was a little too much focus on the PI - It was like he became Houses new "BFF" for the episode. >_> I liked brooding House from episode 1 and 2 - It showed that he's still got a caring bone in his body and might actually be on his way to learning the lesson that Wilson wants him to learn. But then he all of a sudden forgot that (and Wilson) in episode 3? Bah! - - -

Foreman needs Chase, and maybe Cameron too. They're the ones who kept his ego in check and who were his peers. House just bosses him around and uses him and the new team doesn't seem to have much respect for him. He can't be as good as House but he can't be as bad as the fellows. Even though Foreman was the only one of the old team who got to come back, the balance is gone. It's like breaking a heel on one shoe and not the other, it's all off-kilter now.

I didn't even want to post in the episode thread because of my excessive negativity, but I thought tonight's episode was just awful. AWFUL. I feel like I'm watching a train wreck now, and I can't look away. For the first time ever, I felt like I was even "watching" HL act because the story was so clumsily constructed. Worst.Episode.Ever.

Worst.Episode.Ever. I didn't hate it - I actually didn't mind the patient or 13 - but H/Cu/Wilson felt forced and I actually totally agree about the HL acting thing. By the 8th lesbian joke I just wasn't buying it, it just seemed liked HL delivering one liners.

melly- 10-21-2008

I felt like I was even "watching" HL act because the story was so clumsily constructed. I think that may be because they were so focused on delivering Hot!Lesbian! action and lesbian one liners that the story got lost. Seriously, how many sex scenes do you need in one hour? The opening would have been enough, but we had to watch Thirteen's "sexually charged" examination of the patient, along with them lying in bed about to kiss, and then Thirteen making out with someone else at the end. It was laughable by the end.

Ariadne- 10-21-2008

Seriously, how many sex scenes do you need in one hour? On Debbie Does Dallas Again? Well .. oh, you're talking about House. I wonder what HL thinks about these scripts. On one hand, it's nice that Liz Friedman can write about bisexuality so openly. On the other, I wonder if he gets as bored with DirtyOldMan House as I do.

IHARTHUGH- 10-22-2008

I've been doing my own little project of re-watching all the episodes and taking various notes regarding sub plots, development in character, great lines, etc. And I have to almost cry. Those early episodes were so durned good, and hold my interest even though I've seen them maybe 5-6 times already. I just don't know whether season 4 will hold my interest in the same way (exceptions being the last two shows and 2 or 3 others), and this year? House and Wilson are really interesting, but the stories and the medical issues - just not so good. Am wondering if more seasons is a good idea, much as I love watching Hugh..... Just became a Resident. Hoo wee!!

I've been doing my own little project of re-watching all the episodes and taking various notes regarding sub plots, development in character, great lines, etc. And I have to almost cry. It's strange you should say that, because that's been my reaction a couple of times lately. I've been sitting here watching one of the old episodes and I teared up at how good this show used to be and how mediocre it's become. Literally teared up. Guess it's pathetic to feel that way about a TV show.

Worst.Episode.Ever. I didn't show the same restraint as you - I posted a long screed. Hey, it was on topic! :) BTW belated thanks for your support in the Ratings thread. Much appreciated. I'm bitter about House and Wilson. I thought the estrangement was the last good chance to get them back to the type of footing they were on in S1. To me, the pranking is just infantile and annoying beyond words, drags the show down and demeans everything. And it's also seriously implausible. The show is never going to get its mojo back, IMO, if they don't restore all the characters - especially House - to adult status. Having him cut back and forth, as he did tonight (one minute the stern, even mean boss, the next spying on Wilson with the PI), just makes it impossible to take the serious parts, well, seriously. House was a good character because he was appealing underneath it all. The House I saw last night wasn't appealing; he was selfish and immature. And not real. I want S1 House back.

ixtab- 10-28-2008

Ok, my LANA fear?? Back in force......

melly- 10-28-2008

You gotta be freaking shitting me!? Not only does Thirteen gert more screen time than House in twom of the first five episodes, but SPOILERS>>>she also gets taken hostage with House in ep 9 ...not to mention her own multi ep arc later on?!!! I'm sorry. But I DESPISE this freaking character. She's bland, boring, waste of space.

Gobblin- 10-28-2008

Melly, didn't you get the memo....the show is called Thirteen MD now  Seriously, if her screen time keeps this up i shall not be tuning in for Season 6. However if TPTB decide to 'off' her character, surely that will prove our hatred as ratings would go through the roof, people tuning in just to make sure she's gone

NightOwl- 10-28-2008

I am very very bitter about this new spoiler too. Very. They couldn't give this story to Chase? Or Wilson? Or Cuddy? WTH? Spoiler: I don't care about 13! When a show portrays characters in this situation, it should be characters that the audience cares about, at least just a little bit. I just don't care about her even minimally. UGH! It will be interesting to see how House handles the situation, but I don't want to see him having some uber-bonding moment with 13! I fear he may reveal some deep, private secret to her during this ordeal, bringing them to a new understanding of one another.
