My sister got me a Kilborn Alley Blues Band CD for Christmas. The lyrics are so-so, but the music is great.
And now I know that Willie Dixon has a myspace page. Weird. I'm not sure all the people posting comments know he's been dead for 15 years :)

Are there any other concert junkies? I love live music. Given where I live in the deep South, about the only shows that come locally are country (which I like); but there just aren't that many of them. :( So I travel a lot for shows for my favorite artists. My next stop will be Keith Urban in Biloxi in a couple of months.

I love live concerts and try to get to a lot of them. It isn't as easy in Korea because even though an act will go to Japan they seem to forget that there is a whole country with a large American population and 30 million others who love American music and culture

I volunteer at a folk and acoustic venue here up here, and work at 4-6 concerts per month, plus occasionally help out at one of the larger venues in town. So just in the last few months I've worked at/seen Patty Griffin, Rufus Wainwright, Guy Clark, Marshall Crenshaw, Crowded House, Cowboy Junkies ... and tons of other people who are wonderfully talented and amazing musicians, but aren't mainstream by any stretch of the imagination. My favorite show by a group I'd never heard of ... Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.
Next month we've got the Ann Arbor Folk Festival, where I run the merch table (and spend two days back and forth back stage, etc. It's a bit surreal standing next to the artists discussion the benefits of each dessert.) Ben Folds, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Brian VanderArk (of Verve Pipe), Shamiqua Copeland, and Nathalia Zuckerman (daughter of Pinchas Zuckerman) are on the bill among others on Friday night. Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin are co-headlining on Saturday. Yeah. I'm spoiled.

That sounds like a fantastic job, Namaste.

Do you think the political climate has something to do with it? I know Bon Jovi played there in 1995, but I also know that they've said it's really hard to get permission to play in many of the Asian markets. They've wanted to play in China for 20 years and it's never happened. The closest they got was a press junket in 1993. Then, sometimes when they do play in a place that doesn't get a lot of shows (like Indonesia) there are bomb threats and strange political messages attached to the advertisements. JBJ said there were posters issued that had him quoted with a message that he'd never been asked to endorse. I imagine it's true for a lot of acts that they'd like to hit those markets, but the red tape stops them.

The boy just introduced me to Shiny Toy Guns. Where have they been my whole life? How awesome! Any other fans want to help me feed my new obsession?

The new album of my favourite belgian band is out! :D
Jasper's voice is really entertaining. I saw them in concert and I found them really Ongelofelijke (and beside they are really nice people).

Sorry I had to wuote the whole thing because you hit on a lot of interesting and inportant points. I think for areas like China they have such a closed door policy(hopefully opened by the Olympics in July) that yes it is hard to get a show there. Indonesia like you said has the problem of terrorism.
Korea------just really doesn't know how to do concerts. There is usually little to no advertising for the shows and promotions and the usual back and forth between artists and promoters just isn't there. I don't know if it is Korea doesn't have a culture of music concerts or what but it is very hard to get a show here. However, when shows do come like My Chemical Romance came this past week they are rewarded with audiences who know every word...not just Americans but Koreans and Korean audiences who dress the part and truly enjoy the show. I think that if a lot of R&B and hip hop artists made it a point to come to Korea then a lot of rock acts would follow. Koreans LOVE hip hop. You would think rap started in Seoul not The Bronx. It's very hard for new ideas to get started in Korea and the music business is one that is built on new ideas, I think in 20 years like with driving it will really take off and hopefully it will either be a blended Korean/Western model or a Korean model that everyone knows and understands as opposed to now where no one knows how to get a show together.

Hey, I like this version! Thanks for sharing! They're singing it slower so you can really appreciate how insane the lyrics are. ;)

I noticed that. I have a few Korean dramas I like and everyone sings hip hop on the soundtracks. The Japanese seem to like singing rap. And you haven't heard anything until you've heard Japanese rap! My first time I was like, "WTF?!" and then I sort of got used to it.
Sort of.

I get the chance to interview a lot of bands via my work. Yesterday we had a British band called Your Vegas drop in as part of their promotional tour. I had only had their sampler in my hands for a day prior to their visit, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Long story short, I adored them. It is not often that I swoon after meeting talented people, but these guys were just great fun. Not in the least because they revealed themselves to be big fans of Steve Coogan which led to a rather lengthy discussion about British comedy in general and in addition to liking Eddie Izzard they are big Fry & Laurie fans as well. How can I not like these boys?
I haven't (and, frankly, won't) post the video from their visit but it appears the folks that taped their promo visit at the Yahoo music offices a few days prior went ahead and loaded the footage of the acoustic performance of "In My Head" up onto youtube. Their album A Town and Two Cities is going to be released mid-April. I think it will be great.
They're touring with The Bravery right now and as I had to do an interview with that band last night at the venue (boring, pretentious nimrods), I stayed and caught the Your Vegas opening act. If U2, The Killers and Coldplay all got together and had a baby, I suspect it would sound like Your Vegas.
Check 'em out.

New Kids On The Block Stage Comeback

New Kids on the Block circa 1989 Photo by: Neal Preston / CORBISAfter months of speculation and rumor, the Kids are coming back. A well-placed source tells PEOPLE exclusively that New Kids On The Block are indeed getting back together.
The band's Web site, www.nkotb.com, which had been dormant, is now back up and running in anticipation of the official announcement, which the source says will be made in the next few weeks.
The site currently features a television graphic with a fuzzy, flickering photos of NKOTB in their heyday, and a link inviting fans to sign up for info.
The boy band, which made legions of tweens swoon in the early '90s, selling more than 50 million albums, became a worldwide phenomenon before calling it quits in 1994.
Eighteen years later, they're still "Hangin' Tough." The oldest "Kid," Jonathan Knight, now a real estate developer, will turn 40 later this year. Since the band's demise, former members Donnie Wahlberg, 38, and Joey McIntyre, 35, have seen acting success, while Danny Wood, 38, has worked as a music producer and Knight's brother, Jordan, 37, has continued to record
I saw this this morning and can't stop laughing.

They should be! To go from shirtless and lifting weights with concrete blocks in the Good Vibrations video and posing in yr underpants to Oscar nominee is pretty impressive. :-)
I actually just watched Mark Wahlberg in I Heart Huckabees this morning and I thought he did a good job. Very likable.
And for those of you who don't know what I mean, here's the video. The concrete block weightlifting happens at about 1:20. The shirtlessness? Constant. ;-)

That's because it's against the law to cover that body up with a shirt ;)
I think Mark has turned into a really good actor.

Me either! I hated NKOTB when I was a teenager. A lot of the girls in my class liked them, of course, and thought I was silly for being into rock bands. I would retaliate by telling them that they didn't write the own songs and wouldn't be around in five years. LOL I feel like I won that argument though. My favorite band never went away, has been internationally successful for 25 years, and had a number one CD last year, so there!
