SPOILER IIRC, he's in just one more, episode five. I don't remember there being any mention of him in other episodes. END SPOILER
Mod Note: Anything that pertains to the future of a character and it hasn't aired is a spoiler.

Quick question for those who know more about real world medical education than I do. When do people begin going on rounds? Med school, or during their internship? (I'm not talking grand rounds, which, as I understand it, would be a large lecture setting, but rather the learning experience of an attending or senior resident leading new doctors/students around and having them present cases.)
NightOwl- 10-06-2008
My friend is a doctor, and she told me that, at her medical school, the first two years of med school (in the early 90s) were all classroom, and the next two years were all clinical. I'm not sure if that exactly means "rounds," but it definitely means working hands-on with patients, learning procedures, etc, under the tutelage of real doctors. I am fairly certain that the students present cases, however.
In my research, I've noticed that some med schools have only 18 months of classwork, and then then next 2.5 years as clinical work. There are different combinations. But yes, I believe all med students do clinical work at some point before they get to residency. (Internship is just the word for the first year of residency, and it seems to be going out of fashion as a term.)
That probably wasn't very helpful.

Uhm, out of curiosity I have a totally unrelated to anything technical question about the HD episodes, that are available on 'FOX on Demand' inside the US.
Are they 720p or full HD (1080p)?
extra_cat- 10-06-2008
I believe when a person starts clinical practice also depends on where they're in school. I researched Australian med school for fan fiction purposes and found that a person can start med school right out of their equivalent of high school and that they get their first clinical experience in the first year. It sounded like they wanted to show the students reality quickly so they could get out if they needed to instead of wasting two years of their life and then realizing they were on the wrong path.

Well, yea, I was talking about the U.S., as I'm in the U.S. and I'm fairly certain Namaste is in the U.S. :)
My understanding of Australia, however, is that it's more like a college-med school all-in-one program that takes six years to complete. So they get it done in two years less time than most Americans do.

I can't be bothered to install their media player to find out, but since the help says it adjusts video quality depending on your connection speed, I would be very surprised if many people *could* get full bandwidth 1080p streaming video (i.e. blu-ray quality).
Fox stations broadcast in 720p.

Thanks marykir. I was unsure about it and thought that it would probably be to big to be streamed), but whenever I read HD, I think full HD and not 720p (is there a more friendly name for that?).
Is House broadcast anywhere in full HD other than Australia? It seems like such a waste not to.
(I'm just pining for more detail in the picture, I guess. I can't believe how tiny regular DVDs look in comparison.)

As far as I know, no one broadcasts anywhere at 1080p. If they did, it would almost certainly be a reduced bitrate from blu-ray quality, as there's a limit on the total bitrate/digital channel.
In the US digital (sub-)channels are either 720p or 1080i or standard definition 480(i, I think).
Our cable and satellite systems are making a big deal about having video on demand or pay-per-view movies available in 1080p, because that's an alternative to buying or renting a blu-ray disc. Even there, there's some question about whether they will provide blu-ray quality bitrates.

Can anyone tell me in which episode two fellowship certificates can be seen on the wall in Wilson's office for the University of Pennsylvania?
Or better yet, point me at a screencap which shows them?
I'm sure I haven't made this up...
Lully- 10-08-2008
I'm almost sure it's in Alone.
ETA:
And I found this pic
hwshipper- 10-08-2008
Alas, Lully, thanks, but wrong certificates! The ones on the wall there are the McGill and Columbia certificates: I already have that pic.
The Penn ones are shown in a different kind of shot, and I'm pretty certain I've only seen them in a screencap, not a promo picture.
Anyone?
Lully- 10-08-2008
Do you remember the season?
NightOwl- 10-08-2008
Lully, I'm guessing season 1. If I remember correctly, it's the one that has a different first name for Wilson. (Was it Jack? I can't remember now.) And that was definitely season 1. And I think it was on the wall to the right as you enter his office. Something like that.
(I'm not much help, am I?)
