I haven't been to a dentist in ~1 bazillion years. As I do not have any insurance and can't bring myself to spend the out of pocket for a cleaning. (And yet I'll spend my money on so many frivolous things. My value system-let me show you it.) I'm very afraid of what my next visit to the dentist (whenever it may be) will be like. Not pretty, I suspect.

(And yet I'll spend my money on so many frivolous things. My value system-let me show you it.) I'm very afraid of what my next visit to the dentist (whenever it may be) will be like. Not pretty, I suspect. I had periods of years in my life where I didn't go to the dentist because of lack of insurance. Of, if I did manage to have insurance it wouldn't cover dental. But I've had steady insurance for the last 5-6 years now and I am regular like clockwork with my appointments every 6 months. Once you get yourself in a situation where you have insurance, it's really not so bad. I was fearing the worst myself but....not so bad. A friend of mine sent me this article today at work, knowing full well that I used to live in England and had an English boyfriend. The reason I latched on to him in the first place was because he had such great teeth! At that point I'd been in the UK for 3 months and he was a complete anamoly. :-)

Why are we suddenly talking about dentists? I fear them. But I still go to all my appointments, because I fear what will happen if I don't even more (I'm complicated. People dig that) (they don't, really), so I bravely went yesterday for my 9-monthly check-up and cleaning. I had my wisdom teeth pulled out more than 10 years ago and I can still recall how terrified I was, and how the surgeon first took me through breathing exercises as he was afraid I was gonna faint and how I bit him. It wasn't one of the highlights in my life.

It's raining here. I'm happy.

It was sunny here. That made me happy. And the fact that it was warmer, that was good too.

It wasn't one of the highlights in my life. I LOVE getting my teeth cleaned. Love it. Of course, I haven't found a new dentist since I moved, but the one I had back home for a while was the best I've ever been to. The hygienist was very nice and gentle, but did a wonderful job. One visit, we got into a discussion about toothpaste flavors they order. I mentioned that it would be awesome if they had a chocolate-mint flavor and - wha-la - she found such a flavor and used it for me the next time I came in. They were so sweet. :) However, I'm dreading my next visit, because I know that I'll have to get my wisdom teeth extracted. One is coming in nearly sideways and pushing on my other tooth. I've never had any kind of surgery and I'm absolutely terrified of it. I only have three wisdom teeth. Two aren't coming in at strange angles, but, as I said, one is. So I'm very worried about it. And I have an inexplicable fear of IVs. I'm okay with needles, but there's something about an IV that freaks me out. *shudder* Anyone have any words of wisdom about wisdom teeth surgery? Heh.

I always get the chocolate-flavored toothpaste. Tastes like brownies. :)

I hate getting my teeth cleaned. I hate that tickling sensation, I always gag. Actually the technician was telling me that technically all you have to do is get the scraping done at the beginning. She apparently hates getting her teeth polished, too, so she always asks to skip that part. I haven't had enough courage to ask if it's okay if I just get my teeth scraped or whatever. Thank God I haven't had any cavities-- teeth cleaning is pretty much torture anyway. Plus, no matter how much I floss they tell me I haven't done it enough. :(

When the dentist was doing the scrapy thingy, I coughed and his hand slipped and he cut the inside of my cheek, forgot to mention that... :(

I always get the chocolate-flavored toothpaste. Tastes like brownies. Why do I not have this?

Ask them next time you go. It takes really good. Even smells like brownies!

I love the polishing,, but hate hate hate the scraping part, it is like fingers on the chalkboard a metaphor that will sadly be no more in the coming years :(

My dentist no longer has the chocolate flavored stuff because people complained. I asked last time, and they said that the masses said that tooth polish should taste nasty. But they at least got out the kiddie stuff for me. What I liked about the chocolate stuff was that you got that little rush of endorphins that you get from eating a good dark chocolate, and that helps to calm and relax you while you're there (I'm a dentist-phobe as well). Why anyone would give that up is beyond me. At least my dentist rocks in all other ways (no needles, sings/whistles, best in the area, cute dentist son...).

I love the polishing,, but hate hate hate the scraping part, it is like fingers on the chalkboard a metaphor that will sadly be no more in the coming years :( Yeah, if I had to pick a part that I didn't like, it would be the scraping. I love the polishing, too. :) Weird and sad how that metaphor will die out eventually. Strange. I suddenly feel ancient.

I hope this is the right place to post this. This is directed to folks who love taking surveys as much as me :). One of my sista-friends is looking for people to take a 15 minute survey on attitudes toward workplace cultural diversity programs and leadership advancement. This study is in partial fulfillment of a Doctor of Management degree. If you're interested in participating follow the link http://www.contemporaryleadershipinstitute.org/16501.html If I am doing a very, very bad thing :( , please tell me gently and I will edit my post.
