No, the bluey thing you said. Giant cold microbe, or I have a few strings loose?

I'm joining this conversation rather late...
Dylan can't sing. But he can tell a story.
Might I also recommend Joni Mitchell and Elvis Costello. I could go on and on. Wilco should be mentioned. Todd Snider-I can't talk him up enough.
Yes! I can't remember my first concert because my mom was always taking me to see some folky folks play. I remember a Livingston Taylor concert when I was about five, and Jonathan Edwards too. I've been to more Cheryl Wheeler concerts than I can count. But the first concert that I can remember getting excited about was --don't tease me now-- Kenny Loggins. Hey, I was seven. I also remember throwing a fit when my mom wouldn't let me go see Rick Springfield.
Can anyone remember their first favorite song?
My parents claim that when I used to love 'Rapture' by Blondie. Apparently I liked the line about eating cars.
I really loved 'Grandpa Was a Carpenter' by John Prine. When I visited my dad I used to request that he play 'Sunshine' by Jonathan Edwards and 'Your Mind is on Vacation' by Mose Allison.
I still love Mose Allison to this day. 'Your Molecular Structure' is one of my favorite songs.
The first music video that I remember is 'White Wedding' by Billy Idol. I loved it. No one in my family was surprised by Goth phase (which I still have quite grown out of).

Hmm, first favorite song. I would have to say Rocky Mountain High by John Denver. I have no idea why this song stuck but there were a pair of raccoons at a local zoo and my brothers and I named them after that song.
I remember the launch of MTV but I remember the first video that really stuck was either Dire Straits Money for Nothing or Ah-Ha's Take On Me.

HtR- Nope, it's a baby blanket I've had since I was 3 days old. It'll be twenty come this october.
Troop- Rocky Mountian High really does exsist. Spend just one hour in one of our National Parks and you'll never want to leave. I got pics if you want some!
Hail the Random- 09-03-2007
Well, I was completely off.
TrooperCam- 09-03-2007
Thats pretty cool. The song refers more to a feeling of euphoria being there in Colorado, but the fact that there are peaks with that name makes it even cooler. Yes, I wouldliek to see them. Thanks
JenButterfly- 09-03-2007
And it's total euphoria here. Not so much in the big city as much as in the mountians.
Alrighty. I'll throw a bunch onto my thumb drive and load them up at school. (I'm stuck with dial up here) and then I will post all the links to them here.
Hell, I'll throw in a picture of my bluey just for you, HtR.

I don't know if this was my first favorite song or not, but it was one of my favorites as a kid. I remember curling up in my bed, transistor radio pressed to my ear, getting angry at the world.
And then John Denver's Sunshine on My Shoulders made me love the sun again.

I'm late, but... Blasphemy!!!
He can't sing now, but damn! I love his voice way back when.
I, too, also  Wilco.

As far I'm concerned, Dylan is IT. I love his voice. He's better than Caruso!!! :winkiss: I have to actually turn off the radio when I hear someone else trying to cover one of his songs. The Doors doing All I Really Want to Do or Mr. Tambourine Man makes me die.... The only exception I have heard is Hendrix doing All Along the Watchtower. Anything else and all can hear in my head is how different and how much better Dylan does it.
IMO the best albums are Blood On the Tracks and Time Out of Mind.
Anybody who thinks rock is all about youth needs to listen to Trying To Get To Heaven and It's Not Dark Yet. That said, yes, he can really stink on stage. I think it's part of his aura. I would kill to spend a day in the man's company--even if all he did was scowl and insult me, I'd feel honored. Oh, dear, now I have to go listen to me some Dylan.
ETA: How can anyone who has heard Lay Lady Lay still say Dylan can't sing???

Yay! for Bob!
I could listen to Bob all day. Truly, as someone said up-thread, the man can tell a story:
She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin' away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
"We'll meet again someday on the avenue,"
Tangled up in blue.
I'm listening to Girl of the North Country right now

aww I am jealous. I have been trying to get Mr TC to upgrade our television, even going so far as to try and convince him leaving the big 27 inch television would help keep our household goods weight down (we were only authorized 2500 pounds total HHG)...but no dice. The real rub...our smaller television won't arrive till the beginning of October and the big tv won't arrive till the beginning of November. Thank goodness I handcarried the laptops, so at least we will have interweb :)
Hi Trooper! The weight on the new TV is about 38 pounds. I can't get over how light it is!
Are you in the military? Is that why you have a HHG limit? And how are you going to watch the season premier if you don't have either TV? At a friend's house?
aithlyn- 09-04-2007
So, at my kids univ. the homecoming concert is a double bill of Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello....and the kids can get their tickets for around $50 each...and neither of them is really interested in going.... I mean, yeah, it's homecoming and the concert is going to be in the stadium but, geeze, Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello. For $50. Where did I go wrong????
Congrats on the new tv! My old vcr finally died this spring and after I spent a month combing thrift shops and pawn shops for a cheap one (which still had its remote.... ) my son bought me a brandnew shiny video and dvd player. So special.
Thanks for the congrats. :) And kudos to your son... even if he doesn't want to go see two incredibly talented musicians in a once-in-a-lifetime show! My coworker just spent $80 each for two tickets to the Dylan/Costello show in Worcester. Her two faves, in one show. I hope she doesn't die of bliss!

Lay Lady Lay is for sure one of my favorite Dylan songs. I love Dylan. But, interestingly, I think he's one of the songwriters whose work is often made even better by other bands covering his material. (I think that's the mark of a good song; if another band/artist can cover it and it holds up well, then it's a piece of art.) Most notably, I LOVE the Byrds covering of Mr. Tambourine Man. One of my very favorite albums is the 30th Anniversary Concert--(30th Anniversary of Dylan being on Columbia Records)--that was recorded in 1993. It's a veritable who's-who of rock and roll greats covering Dylan tunes.
I've seen him in concert twice, though. Bad. Both times.
