long story about our trip back to the US, way too long to just post it here, hence the link lol

Hibernia- 08-31-2007

That's a good story, Galaxygirl! I know O'Hare, I've been to the USA three times (family) and things always were crazy there (and it's a bad, I mean BAD, idea to get into a fight with a guy checking your passport - I learnt that the hard way). So I totally sympathize!

galaxygirl- 08-31-2007

yeah, I agree Hibernia. Never ever get in a fight with someone who has too much power for his/her own good lol. I read some true horror stories through the years at VisaJourney.com. I promise there will be pictures eventually, I'm sorting through about 500 pics right now lol.

Hibernia- 08-31-2007

That's a LOT of pictures (yay for digital camera's!).... Good luck! Don't delete them by accident (and yeah - that's also something I learned the hard way :( ).

galaxygirl- 08-31-2007

haha, that would suck so bad lol. They are on the computer right now, I don't think I've taken them off the chip in the camera yet, I like to have some back up because I'm known for messing things up like that. When I visited Disneyland Paris many moons ago, I managed to mess up 2 out of the 3 camera film thingies I brought. First time I didn't know there wasn't any film in at all and the second time around I didn't pull the film far enough onto the camera part, so it didn't take any pictures at all *d'oh* I'm also slightly nauseous on Dutch licorice right now.

Hibernia- 08-31-2007

Did you take loads of licorice and peanutbutter and chocolatesprinkles and candy and cheese back with you? My aunt always did that. She always got way too heavy luggage and had to repack at the airport.

galaxygirl- 08-31-2007

My parents gave us lots of Dutch goodies to take back: licorice, tea(can't find any decent 'normal'* black tea here), cup-a-soup(stop laughing ;)), cinna sticks(I love cinnamon), speculaas, sprits koeken, AH chocolate and Milka Chocolate(don't like most of the chocolate in the US). They always send us all kinds of yummy-ness around Sinterklaas and for my birthday. They also send us a big packet with all kinds of Oranje merchandise for the WK 2006. My mommy and daddy love me lol. *I do like the herbal and green tea here

Hibernia- 08-31-2007

Ah yes, my mom used to send Sinterklaas-packages as well (chocolate-letters and mice & frogs and marzipan and pepernoten, you name it and she sent it). But Cup-a-soup? I'd have thought you'd have that! What I did like in the USA, though, were the donuts and the "holes", I never found "real" donuts here  . But it seems that your parents love you lots, indeed!

galaxygirl- 08-31-2007

We don't have any good cup-a-soup here in Iowa. Last time I checked they only sold like 4 different kinds here. In Holland we had more varieties of the tomato soup alone. I love the Chinese tomato and the regular tomato ones. If it was humanly possible, I could live on marzipan.

Hibernia- 08-31-2007

If it was humanly possible, I could live on marzipan. Ah, so could I. At Sinterklaas-time, I always get myself a huge chunk at a good bakery where they sell it "from the pig". Soooooooo delicious... I like the cheaper marzipan from the HEMA as well, but fresh from the pig is always best.

hwshipper- 08-31-2007

Sorry to interupt, just wanted to say it is fun following your conversation... not in the least because your icons complement each other so well - in the direction they're looking etc - I can run my eye up & down the page & imagine House & Wilson talking...

Jouse- 08-31-2007

 that's so lovely hwshipper. Here, now you don't even have to scroll ;) I really think I'm going crazy with lack of new eppies. September 25th will never come, will it :(

blue- 09-01-2007

Can I pimp something I'm really excited about? Even though it's not related to House in any way? Well I hope so, because I'm going for it. Wheeeee :D Spectrum 14 comes out on Oct 28th. It's a large-format, really nice (IMO), collection of fantasy art from the last year. I'm excited because two of my pieces are included this year. Two! Which is more than One! Sorry, super happy. Anyway, I know it's another two months before it's released, but I saw the page on Amazon and it made me squee. I know I'm lame enough that I'm going to have to go into every Borders and Barnes&Noble so I can see it on the shelf. I don't get published a lot and Spectrum draws a lot of huge names (people I idolize like a crazed fangirl), so this is a big deal to me. Anyway, I'm telling everyone that I know. But there's only so many times I can call my mom and tell her how awesome this is

sautomne- 09-01-2007

blue, that's awesome! I'd loved to see some of your work. I have a BA in painting, but haven't been doing much lately. I love the work of Dave McKean (and lot of others whose names I can't think of right now)!

TrooperCam- 09-01-2007

Ah O'Hare, how I hate that airport. Galaxy Girl if it makes you feel better you are not the only one who had a great adventure with the airlines this weeknd. Though I do have to say clearing customs was easier as they shuttled all the military through their own line...way to keep security there but whatever. http://romeo46.livejournal.com/18638.html#cutid1 Oh and I really hate United. I have about 40k miles with them, but I don't think I will ever use them for a flight. I hate that airline that much.
