I know a poor woman who's last name is Proudfit. Many years ago, I read in the NY Times about a couple named Daub and the husband had always wanted to give his son a certain name. The wife agreed so their son's name was Zip-a-de-doo Daub.

This all reminds me a lot of this clip, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who went there.

A Facebook question for all you Facebookers: people from high school keep adding me, whatever, but today someone who I know my lifestyle would personally offend added me. I have nothing against her, in fact, I barely remember her. I barely remember high school, period. But-she lists her political views as "Conservative," I list mine as "Tree huggin', pot smokin', lazy ass hippie." My religion is listed as "Lapsed pagan." Hers is slightly more mainstream. So-my question is: should I add her and assume she'll never take note of me again, like most of the people I went to school with, or should I ignore her because obviously, we don't have a lot in common. I don't want to be rude, but...but I don't want to be rude.

I know how you feel. A lot of my Facebook friends are people with whom I went to a parochial school in Illinois. While they express their views accordingly, so do I. I believe my political views are "Do unto others as they would do unto you" and my religious views are "Love, period." We don't talk all that much, but when we do, we tend to stay in more neutral territory. Except for the one time I got in a fight with a seminary student over the Christian approach to Islam. That's a whole other story, though. In other words, don't be ashamed of your life. She friended you. If she sees your political and religious views and is offended, then it's up to her to de-friend you. If her lifestyle offends you in any way, then don't add her as a friend. If you ever talk, keep it neutral.

I don't want to be rude, but...but I don't want to be rude. Two weeks into Facebook and now suddenly I'm an expert. :-) Well, I have to tell you that I proudly decided to not accept friend requests from people I have no desire to talk to. I mean, if I haven't spoken with them post-graduation, it means I didn't want to then and I don't want to now. I totally call "bullshit" on the kinds of people that just want to have an impressive number of friends on their roster for the sake of bolstering numbers. So my advice is to just click "'ignore" and go on your merry way. If you're like me, you probably won't be attending any organized h.s. reunions anyway. PS--I should probably add that I ignored the friend request from my own mother. I mean, I called her and told her why, but still. That's so lame that she would even attempt it. :roll:

I vote "ignore" as well. I mean, it's probably not a huge deal since you don't actually have to have anything to do with her and *she* friended you (therefore, if she's offended by you then she can leave and it's not your problem at all), but at the same time if there's any chance she'll be a pain in your ass then it's not worth it. I live and work in an extremely conservative area and while a majority of the folks I have to interact with on a daily basis are sane, normal, down to earth, non-crazy people, there are a few who spend their days forwarding racist, urban legend-filled, easily debunked by snopes emails to the office staff to "warn" them of things (everything from Obama being the antichrist to not pumping gas at a certain hour of the day). One of them has a facebook page. She posted some pictures and sent them around to people and asked folks if they had a facebook page. I probably wouldn't have friended her anyway, but her profile kind of freaked me out a little bit, so when asked i just lied and said I didn't have a facebook page. It's just easier that way. Plus, people in my office probably don't need to see my personal photos or see that most of my status updates have to do with the misery that is my 7 to 5 job. But, that has nothing to do with your predicament. I just needed to make it about me. {g}

That is spectacular.

Sunny von Bulow died after spending the last 28 years in a coma. On a related note, I loved 'Reversal of Fortune'. Great movie, one of Jeremy Irons' best performances.

radiosweetheart- 12-08-2008

Awwww....crap. Bettie Page is in a coma after a heart attack Here, have some cheesecake and BR549 singing their Bettie, Bettie the song that introduced me to her awesomeness. The comments are priceless-yeah, Chuck was really obtuse with those lyrics...I wonder who this song could possibly be about? And since it was 28 years ago today...John Lennon-Woman. Dammit, still breaks my heart.

Argh! Why does USPS Click-n-Ship have to be offline now? It wasn't working yesterday either... I have Christmas presents to ship! And a return to send before the RMA expires! Not only does going to the post office mean a special trip in the rain with a giant box and standing in line with all the other cranky people, postage costs more at the post office :( ::grumble::

Chipmunk_love- 12-09-2008

OMG, it's snowing in South Texas. Hardcore snow. People are freaking out. There is a party going on outside my dorm. If the ground was actually cool enough for it to stick, it'd be a finals miracle.

If the weather widget on my iGoogle page doth not deceive me, it appears that there's a town in Western Kentucky called Crunk. As if my world wasn't topsy turvy enough, I have now I have the image of Lil John incorporating Merle Travis style fingerpicking into his musical oeuvre. I think I'm developing a migraine.

I think I'm developing a need to visit a town in Western Kentucky called Crunk.

Some schools in southern Louisiana have a snow day!!!!
