Hey, anyone else hear a really loud crashing sound coming from the vicinity of Wall Street? Man, my bank already failed last week (WaMu), luckily my accounts are FDIC-insured. Looks like Wachovia is tanking too. Scary times, people.

Once again... I AM SO ANNOYED THAT I DON'T HAVE A TV RIGHT NOW. /rant There. I'm glad I got that off my chest. I'm so tempted to go out and buy Cool Hand Luke. It's been on my "to buy" list for a while, but there always seems to be some other movie/tv show that I need even more.

No The Sting? *Sigh* He was so gorgeous in that movie. On a side note, ESPN is holding a Battle of the Bands. Competing marching bands are Auburn, Clemson, University of Georgia, University of Florida, LSU, USC, and, of course, University of Texas. You can vote for whichever school you want, but it'd be amazing if you voted for UT. You'd be voting for the best school anyway. :D

HWShipper, has your husband been involved in any of this? In London financial district, a job hunting frenzy. (From the LATimes.) Hope he's found it a little better than the folks mentioned in that article.

hwshipper- 09-30-2008

LOL, thanks for that article, Namaste. It is bang on! There is indeed an underground shopping mall right by the Lehman building with a Starbucks and Caffe Nero in the middle on opposite corners... and that is what it's been like... He has various job possibilities in the offing at the moment but nothing definite yet, I will let you know when there is.

That sounds promising, shipper, I'm sure we all hope something will come up soon. There have been some articles in the papers overhere about this situation in London and it is so much more moving to read about it if you "know" (of) somebody who has to deal with it.

No, my obsession with House isn't screwing with me at all. I haven't done at least thirty double takes in the past three days and wondered what the hell the show had to do with bailing out Wall Street. Not at all. And if Chase bank fails, then I'm screwed. Not only because that's where my money is, but then I'd have to read headlines screaming "HOUSE BAILS OUT CHASE" and would be confused.

Here is a complete explanation of what's gone wrong with Wall Street and other markets, from Bremner, Bird and Fortune. They did this sketch in December of last year. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwRFoxgEcHc

So....the Juice heads to the big house after all. It's almost kind of eerie that this decision comes exactly 13 years to the day after his acquittal in that other famous case. Lucky thirteen, indeed. (And damn. I remember exactly where I was when I heard that decision on the news. I feel old.)

amysusanne- 10-04-2008

The date really is eerie. I'm sure the significance went right over OJ's head since he probably doesn't actually remember the important dates. Maybe he'll find the real killers in prison. It's really disgusting to me that I can tell you with no uncertainty where I was and what was happening the night of the Bronco "chase" and the verdict of the first trial. You suck, OJ. Also disgusting: his asshole friend's comment about this being "a public lynching". Dude, shut up. Don't compare justice with such an abominable act.

Poeia- 10-04-2008

The night of the Bronco chase I was watching something on HBO. Just before bed, I turned to a broadcast network to get the weather report or something and they were showing this white car on a highway with no commentary. It was very near the end of the chase and it took me about 10 minutes of channel changing to find out what in the world I was watching.

amysusanne- 10-05-2008

I was working in a video store at the time. My boss always gave me shit about always having a new movie running, which I was doing that night. It ended, I stopped the tape and OJ was on. It was towards the beginning of the pursuit. I realize that this wasn't a typical night of television, so normal rules didn't apply, but given the number of people who gathered around in shock and then rushed home to watch television, I concede that he might have had a point with the whole "you watch movies, they rent movies" theory of business. I was working at a different video store for the verdict. Except I was watching the verdict on purpose and all the people standing around in shock didn't rush home to watch anything, they just stood around kind of pissed off. Totally different vibe that day.

radiosweetheart- 10-05-2008

The night of the Bronco chase I was going to go see a movie. I don't remember what movie, but I'm pretty sure it featured Jack Nicholson. Possibly as a werewolf. I was still young enough that I wasn't allowed past midnight (or 11:30, maybe) and the movie didn't start until 10:45, so I wasn't allowed to go. I went home and my family was gathered around the TV watching the chase. I have tried all weekend to remember where I was when the verdict was read and I don't remember. That means I was probably at home, sick or maybe expelled, watching TV. Since I would have been alone and doing what I always do, there's nothing to remember other than that I was pissed.

bailey- 10-05-2008

I was bartending the night of the Bronco run and made bank. Everyone went crazy and ran into the bar area, ordering beers and buffalo wings by the handful. During the verdict I was in Western Civ. class and the instructor was determined to stop class and turn on the radio while the verdict was read. I was really pissed off at the time just knowing that I would always remember where I was when the news went down. And so I have.
