Hey, dumb question ahoy. How does one hypothetically unclog a bathtub? First time apartment owner here and I'd rather do it myself than get someone to help even though service would be free (awkward non-language skills). I took a shower last night and there's still an inch of water in there. /TMI Draino. Or Liquid Plumber. Just pour it in even if there's still water in the tub. Works like a charm. After that, you can maintain by pouring a cap full of bleach down the drain every couple of weeks. If it's really bad you can buy one of those snake thingies at Lowe's or Home Depot. They work pretty well.

How does one hypothetically unclog a bathtub? I have long hair, so maybe this will help: 1.) try plunger 2.) try to get in there with crochet hook to pull up/out hair - this one smells but works the best 3.) try Draino All three have been employed by me, and all three work. The Draino after awhile will corrode the pipes though. After that, you can maintain by pouring a cap full of bleach down the drain every couple of weeks. Good to know. Will try that one.

This looks like a kick The late, much-celebrated Noel Coward was a playwright, screenwriter, actor, singer, composer, director, cabaret star, racounteur, world traveler, society darling, social gadabout and a genius to many while a nuisance to others. But who would guess he'd also spent much of World War II as a spy? He was doing undercover work before and during World War II for the Brits at the request of Lord "Dickie" Mountbatten, a cousin of England's King George VI, which is but one of the many fascinating things revealed in the constantly intriguing "Letters to Noel Coward," just published by Knopf, edited and with additional commentary by Coward historian Barry Day.

March-can you get a hose into the bathroom? Blasting out the clog would work fast and easy. If you have a plunger you can try to plunge the clog out-that might only be a temporary fix. Failing that there's vinegar and baking soda or Drain-O (or the equiv) to melt the nasty bits. Or-if you're my dad you could do all of those things AND try to pull the clog out using a wire coat hanger. That'll show that bath tub.

I don't think I can get a hose in there, but I did have someone write out 'Pipe man' in katakana for me, so I will have to go to the store and point at it to ask for help. I could certainly try the wire coat hanger. That'll show that bath tub. Yeah. You gotta show your appliances who's boss. ;)

I'm late to the party, but blue, that just sucks. Bugger.

March301- 12-13-2007

Hey, it worked! I poured some Pipe Man in there, did some plunging, and all the water's gone. Now I just have to clean all the gross stuff that came out. Le sigh.

I'm late to the party, but blue, that just sucks. Bugger. Thanks, Silja. I should be in one of those public service announcements: "Be sure the back-up your files, kids!"

file loss
Hey Blue, that really does suck, but maybe there is a solution. My daughter had a similar thing happen when her hard drive crashed just before she was to submit her Master's thesis. Total panic! She went to one of the professional file recovery businesses and they managed to recover all of her files off the drive. Cost her about $100 but well worth it. I don't know anything about the file recovery software you tried to use, but don't the files stay on the drive until written over by new files? Maybe the experts can recover them for you. Good luck.

It's snowing here and it sucks and there are no new fics to read and I am SO BORED!

Yeah I live in Boston too...fun huh? I actually went home today from college and forgot my laptop charger! I can't believe I did that. I'll be back by Saturday but I'm going through computer withdrawal...finally got the family computer away from my sister.

Thanks. Yeah, we tried that. I took it to a friend who does this stuff for a living but, unfortunately, most of the files were already overwritten. I guess it depends on how they actually go into the recycle bin and get deleted (which pathway), and the ones I wanted were the first that got wiped out completely. Of course. So, I think they're gone for good.

It's snowing here and it sucks and there are no new fics to read and I am SO BORED! At least you have the option to read fics if you want, I didn't have any power for the last two and a half days ;)

Unfortunately my school wasn't cancelled, so no fics for me until I get home :(

I posted this on my LJ but if anyone has any help I would be most appreciative Seoul is without a doubt the driest country I have ever been to. My skin is so dry and ashy my legs look like the Italian Alps. Da Hubby has threatened to put my hands in the little kid chickenpox booties if I don't stop scratching but I am so itchy and uncomfortable right now. Does anyone know of anything other than cocoa butter I can use to relieve some of this dryness?
