Popping in to say that whoever invented the automated phone caller and let local politicians get their hands on it should be strung up. I don't get many phone calls - and let the answering machine pick up unless I'm expecting one - but every single call this week has been of the automated "Hi! My name is {whatever} and I urge you to vote {for|against} {whatever}" variety.
If I had not already mailed in my ballot a week ago, I would be writing in "whoever promises not to call asking me to vote" wherever possible. Or voting for whoever did not send multiple mailings touting their concern for the environment. Sigh.
Re. live sports - the Dolphins/Giants game was boring on TV too. Too many penalties. And we didn't get to see the streaker.
I think most live sports, but certainly American football, are better if you are surrounded by passionate fans of your team. Or if you are under 12. I enjoyed every single Ohio State football or basketball game I went to with my dad growing up, even when Ohio State lost. Well, maybe enjoy isn't the right word when they lost - but it was way more exciting than whatever the heck I did most weekends :)

Happy Halloween all, don't eat too much of the left over candy ;)

*)())(*) i forgot to mail in my ballot
Which is all the more sucky concering I didn't even request one this year and Virginia sent one anyways

I remember picking up the phone in a daze of idiotism and got one of those people working for a local senate candidate wanting to know who I'd vote for. For some reason, me telling him that I wasn't allowed to vote didn't stop him from going on and on and on about it.

donkeykong, it sounds like the strike is near! Talks have broken off.
Here's hoping it goes well for you! Need us to persuade anyone... :tritter:
Fingers crossed in solidarity!

There was some woman outside with a loudspeaker at 7:50 am. I have no idea what she was on about. It lasted for about an hour, though. Why she couldn't have waited until a more godly hour in the morning-- like 9 or 10-- is beyond me. Reminds me of your stories about people calling up to ask you to vote.
That always happens to me when I'm home but I always figured it was because I'm kind of politically active and they have my number. AARGH. I'm always like, "Yes, I'm voting for Barack Obama. Now leave me alone."

Nothing says fun like middle schoolers the morning after Halloween. *ugh*

The streaker was a burly sort of fellow – apparently the same guy who streaked the Super Bowl the year of the Great Wardrobe Malfunction – and I don't mean to belittle his manhood, but there wasn't much to see.

Count me in :tritter:
And I'm a little confused. Is it the primaries you're speaking of? I thought that was early next year.

There are local elections in November. The presidential primaries begin early Jan. The 2008 elections are going to end up being pretty much a 2 year campaign season.

Hee
If I had know that I would have made more of an attempt to tune in. The Dolphins/Giants game was actually live for us
It's almost Friday...thankfully I have not yet had my fill of Patriots/Colts talk

I should also add who is this LP and what do they make that got them the naming rights to the former Coliseum there in Nashville
Any of my Tennessee peep know?

It would appear that LP makes sheaths and hard wood.
Oooh, yeah baby. Rim board. They can name my stadium anytime.

It's Seattle. We vote on everything. All the time. Even stuff the people we voted for to vote on stuff have already voted on. And if someone doesn't like the outcome of the last vote, we'll have another vote.
I'm pretty sure on this local election, or the primaries for this local election (that's where we knock most of the single-issue nutjobs who are running for positions that have nothing to do with their issue off the ballot), we got to vote on whether to have a vote about some issue or another next year.

The elementary schoolers across the street were pretty rambunctious going to school today. Normally they're pretty quiet on the way in. Except for the occasional pair of crossing guards who absolutely, positively, must have a conversation from opposite sites of the street. WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

I was talking about last years House and Senate elections(is that what they are called?. The Iowa presidential primary is on January 3rd. I believe we are the first state to vote for presidential candidates.
