I had a chance to see Indianapolis and Detroit play in Tokyo but got shipped off to Mongolia when it happened.
No way! I'll have to watch out for that kind of thing-- I didn't know they did that.
I'm going to miss all the big holidays in Asia. They don't trick-or-treat here at all. We throw 'em Halloween parties, though, so we teach them how to say "Trick-or-treat." Bless them. Not one child has pronounced it correctly. Difficult word for them to say. :)

It's the Tr combination. I was working with my KATUSAs the other day on that combination. For fun I make them pronounce my first and last name quickly. It is like verbal gymnastics
The NFL comes to Asia pretty often. They also have world matchups with national teams from the US, Japan, Korea, Thailand and a few other countries playing. It was almost embarassing to watch the US round up on Korea 72-0

Today at the bookstore I work at, Jan Brett (semi-famous children's author) came to do a signing. I was forced to wear the 20 pound costume of one of her recurring characters: Hedgie the Hedgehog.
My life is bloody strange sometimes.
(and by forced, I mean that I was asked politely but in desperation.)

I am extatic!!!!!!!!!! The Boston Red Sox are World Champions!!! Twice in my lifetime!!!!! :) :) :)
I've had no sleep and I am so happy! :) :) :)
Ok I need to seriously calm down here!

Please tell me there are pictures, Starling. That would be positively hilarious.
I've never been forced to wear any kind of costume like that. Thank goodness.

Why didn't anyone tell me that live American football is less exiting than watching paint dry? I haven't been that bored since I was stuck in an airport for two days. No, I was less bored then. I had my laptop.
It was cold, wet and miserable, but Giants won.
radiosweetheart- 10-29-2007
Maybe you did it wrong, Silja.
Did you wear a funny hat, paint your face with team colors and drink a tremendous lot of weak-ass stadium beer?
Those people seem to have fun.
Silja- 10-29-2007
No, I had work today, so no beer. And it was raining. Badly. I did wear my Giants shirt though...under my thick winter coat.
TrooperCam- 10-29-2007
Here's why it wasn't fun
It was raining
It was cold
It was Miami
The game is better live when the two teams are more evenly matched up
Do you watch football at all, cause that helps to understand the decisions and whatnot when watching it live

They were surprisingly evenly matched. It might have something to do with the weather. There were a lot of fumbles and incompletes.
And yes, I watch it. Have watched it for 15 years. I've been known to lecture people on their abysmal understanding of the rules.
TrooperCam- 10-29-2007
The Giants and Miami are not even in the same sphere but yes the weather may have had something to do with it
So if you have watched for 15 years what was the problem? Was this your first live game? Was it too cold or wet to enjoy or was it the fact the final result almost matched the score of Boston/Colorado?
Silja- 10-29-2007
TrooperCam, I'm sorry, but you sound as if I've somehow offended you. I certainly didn't mean to cause offence but I think I better leave the discussion here.
TrooperCam- 10-29-2007
No you haven't offended me, I am curious. It is however 630Am here and I have been on duty for over 20 hours ergo I may be coming off more harsh than I mean.
I have been to live g\football games and found them more interesting than watching on tv so I am curious as to why you did not enjoy yourself.
But whatever
Different topic, while I wish that Don Mattingly had been hired as the Yankees coach given teh history between Don and George Steinbrenner I think it is for the best that Joe Girardi has been picked. Though it seems now that Don is not intending to return to the Yanks next season as the bench coach

I find watching American Football on my tv as boring as watching grass grow. Baseball doesn't do it for me either, but at least I know what's going on there. I'm a 100% soccer girl. Might have something to do with me being Dutch and it being the no 1 sport there by a landslide.
So, where's A-Rod going? Mr GG is hoping he'll go to his beloved Cubbies, just what they need a post season choker if they ever make it to post season again ;)
In other news, is it January 4rd yet? I want all those politicians out of my state.
Silja- 10-29-2007
*slinks back in* Sorry. My bad.
My 'problem' (and I don't know if it's really a problem, it's not as if I'll be in a position to watch a game live any time soon) is that I'm comparing it to footy (i.e. soccer) where there's constant action. It's 2 x 45 minutes. The American version has a gazillion interruptions, which is okay on telly: Fetch a cup of tea, instant replay of what you might have missed etc. Sitting in a stadium makes it dull as dishwater.

Do you even get to vote?
