If You Want To Hang Out.....: House/Scooter/Wilson
OK. I am not sure if there is a huge outpouring for this ship, but I just love it!
Scooter (House called him "Henry". How intimate is that?) and House just had so much chemistry in eps 2-4, finally climaxing tonight when House basically told him to come hang out with him (and Wilson). How could I not melt at the idea of someone joining what has been, up until now, a very exclusive club? House and Scooter were finishing each others sentences, for crying out loud!
The best part is that (of course) House doesn't go for the pretty young thing but, rather, an intelligent mind. Regardless of how ridiculously old he is. :)
Hee. I'm not sure I'd call it a ship, but I'd definitely like to see more of House and Mr. Dobson, and I'm disappointed that we never got to see him with Wilson or hear Wilson's reaction to House keeping him around. His goodbye did clearly imply, though, that there's been some Wilson interaction.
Although it was definitely fun to watch, I'm not sure the speed of Scooter's inclusion to the club was believable. Sure, he may be smart and well educated, but House is supposed to be the genius, and we're supposed to believe that Scooter's mental process is already so in sync with House as to make him redundant? And I want to say that House became far too fond of Scooter far too quickly, but then this is the guy who let Stacy move in a week after meeting her. It just, I don't know, in their "fraud reveal" scene in the hallway, House's reaction seemed appropriate, that he'd be impressed with Scooter's determination to follow his dream. But in later scenes, House's apparent personal preference for him seemed... I don't know. Like I said, fun to watch, but too fast to be entirely believable. I might take it as evidence that he's still on the antidepressants, if there weren't other evidence to the contrary in the same eps.
I suspect, socially, Scooter would have to be more along the lines of House's poker buddies or the husband from HE than a Wilson -- but he could have the potential to be more (inspiring much Wilson jealousy, I suspect). But even if he couldn't make it to real friend status, it would be neat just to see House interacting with another "buddy". I really really hope he starts showing up in the fanfic, in some capacity or other.
And the "dress sexier" line was fabulous!
I'm suspecting that making friends/allowing people into his life is going to be a theme for House this season and ROF getting so in sync with House so fast is part of it.
I don't see it as that he was meant to be right up there with House so much as it was that what he had to offer was not something House needed for his team. He wasn't really thinking on the same level as House, he was actually only thinking at a level House was trying to get the other nobs up to. House needs a team to help with his process and what ROF (or, endearlingly, Henry) brought to it was something House has no need for since he can do that part for himself. He had to go, not because he thought so much like House he didn't House's fellowship to become like House, but because House didn't need him for his process. If you see what I mean.
I really doubt we will ever see or hear of him again because this show isn't so big on that kind of continuity but it would be adorable to just see him at the table at some future poker game or some other reference just to show he was still on House's radar.
I too would have loved to see some interaction with or about him with Wilson. And props to the actor who really sold it imo.
I have a feeling that poker night is going to come back, actually. It was too perfect of a plot device for it not to come back again. What do you want to bet that Scooter (which I liked better than ROF) will be back for poker night.
But yes, I do think that it was rather strange that Scooter (Henry, but he will always be Scooter in my brain) was able to keep up with House's brain. I think that that was mostly why he had to go. No one should be able to do what House's brain does on his team - he needs different sorts to thinkers to keep his brain moving.
But yes, I want to have Scooter come back and chill with Wilson. It would make me happy.
Posted this in a LJ comment already, but maybe if I drop the seed in a few different soils, it might take root?
Don't suppose anyone's insane enough to participate in a virtual season? Here's our real House spinoff -- not CCF, but The Scooter Show (actual name TBD)? This is a teaching hospital, and we know he has medical school administrative experience. Lots of people have said they'd like to see more of the teaching hospital aspect of PPTH, as in "Three Stories" and the scene where Cuddy was leading students around.
So hire Henry Dobson to work with the medical students and let him star. There'd be lots of Cuddy, of course, and OCs as students (and at least the girl from Three Stories, if not all three, if they wouldn't be off on their residencies by now). Cameron and Chase can make guest appearances (and yes, I suppose even Foreman too if you must). House would get his new friend and we'd get to see him and Wilson from an outside perspective. Even Nurse Brenda and the Weird Night Janitor can play a role. Surely there's lots of things going on in this hospital that don't revolve around Diagnostics.
He may not have the complete package House has, but House is not only a genius but also highly educated and trained in his field. Henry has the raw materials but not the education or training that makes House great. He's like the baraku janitor. I think that's why House liked him. If House had been trapped in an office or administrative career, he probably would've done exactly what Henry did: sit in on classes, master the material, then try to get out by posing as a doctor. Luckily for House he had the opportunities to do it the right way, but he can see that Henry is probably a lot like him had he been trapped in a more unfortunate life path.

I would love to see Scooter as PPTH's hospital admin - maybe Cuddy's second in command and Scooter hanging out with Wilson - talking about you know who.
I have no doubt Scooter would be a much, much better administrator than Cuddy.

In a professional sense, it's possible. But I can't help but wonder if Scooter doesn't show us a little of what House might have been had House not been trapped in a more unfortunate path (abuse/infarction/etc) I'm not saying House would be Mr. Sunshine without some of the things that have happened to him, but if you took away the bitterness and distrust I can't help but think you'd end up with someone not unlike Scooter.
