Niiiice...
So the discussion about whether the Oscars will go on as planned goes here, or in the WGA thread?
I really really really hope Ratatouille wins.
(My cousin works for Pixar. Though I have yet to get my free Ratatouille DVD)
With the Coen brothers winning the DGA and the movie winning best ensemble at the SAG Awards, it sure starts to look like No Country for Old Men is gearing up to win best picture. If it wins the PGA, I'm calling it as close as a lock as it can get for Best Picture.
I finally saw Sweeney Todd today. And I think it was Johnny Depp's best work. Absolutelly brilliant! It will be a really pleasant surprise if he wins. And I say surprise, because my money is still on Daniel D. Lewis.
I still have my money on DDL as well, I'd love to see Johnny win though. About as much as I would have loved seeing him for Pirates, after all he won the SAG for that one. Completely threw my scorecard off, oh well at least I predicted all 11 LotR Oscar wins that year.
Things seem to look incredibly good for the Coen brothers, they won the Director's guild award, the Writer's guild award and the Producer's guild award. I'd almost call best picture a shoo-in at this point.
I wand Johnny Depp to win, just because it would give my friends something to talk about other than their boyfriends and their parents. :D
(And because he was good in PotC, so he should be good in other stuff, too. Right? )
My predictions, they're too long to post, so I'll link to my LJ instead.
I pretty much agree with your predictions GG except I predict Cate Blanchette for best supporting actress. The woman was fantastic! (That, plus Tilda Swinton gave me the creeps in MC so I hope it's not her-but well, I have a serious problem with this movie in general).
As for best actor this year, if I voted it would be a tough one. I'd probably go for Lewis, but then Depp, Jones and Viggo were also excellent (especially Viggo). Clooney is not a nominee as far as I'm concerned(Again, I blame the movie, NOT George).
I think you should give the Coens a chance. No Country for Old Men is worth it IMO.
I absolutely loved Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises. He's my first choice. I do feel like he's been largely ignored by the press. Although, now that I think of it, he doesn't seem too keen on interviews.
Does anyone know who Babs Walters is interviewing tonight?

I have given them a lot of chances, I barely made it through Fargo in hopes it would get better(I was wrong) and actually turned off the Big Lebowski about an hour in because I hated it. The only one of their movies I actually liked was Raising Arizona. I might catch some of it when mr GG watches it.

I feel like I should know this, after seeing that promo a million times lol.
ok, tv guide tells me that Baba Wawa is interviewing: Miley Cyrus, Harrison Ford, Ellen Page and Vanessa Williams.
I think I agree with most of your choices, Geege. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Best Picture will be Atonement. Lately it seems that the Academy loves to award the Oscar to grandiose, yet forgettable, films.
I can't even remember who won in 2006. I just remember that it was *not* Brokeback.

Thanks. I think I'll skip Babs this year.
If it will make you feel better, Atonement doesn't have the all important best Director nomination. No movie has won BP without a best director nod since Driving Miss Daisy.
Crash won in 2006. I didn't like Crash, it was fourth on my list of the five nominees. My favorite that year was Good Night and Good Luck and according to Rotten Tomatoes, it got the best reviews of the year as well.
