 Okay this is total fanwanking zone now, but I think House would say "we" even if he didn't know wife #1, because he knew the next two, and because he sees Wilson's life as firmly welded to his own. But let stop this madness!! I believe House knew all three of the Wilsonettes ;)
idonmatrix- 10-31-2007
Well I actually believe it is canon that House knew all three of Wilson's wives. For me, the length of time that Wilson has known House explains his intense emotional attachment to him.
And while Bonnie may not be able to distinguish between an adult dog and puppy, I'm sure Wilson can.
Edited because I just your post Jouse :)
I think the problem with trying to make sense of the House/Wilson relationship timeline is that we don't have enough information about Wilson - like how old he is. I think he would have to have finished medical school fairly young - younger than Cuddy since he supposedly is the boy wonder oncologist.
We don't know when he started working at PPTH. Did his tenure proceed or follow House's? And more importantly we don't know when the two met. Why oh why won't the writers share this simple tidbit of information. We know when House met Cuddy, Chase, Cameron and Foreman but not Wilson. Why oh why dear writers!!!

If only time was a fixed construct in this show...
I believe that Chief of Medicine it's not the same than Dean of Medicine, right? So we only know that at age of 32 Cuddy was in a very prestigious position and maybe earlier than that she was already working more as an administrator than a doctor. Which means... nothing I guess, only that she should be much more older than she seems to be.

They've met before Bonnie, or right at the beginning of Wilson's and Bonnie's relationship. I would give an earlobe to know the specifics.
In Family House mentioned Wilson's first wife - which doesn't prove that he knew her, but it was implied (IMO). Also, Bonnie named Hector after House because in their honeymoon she already resented House. She said it quite clearly in HT. House couldn't be just a casual colleague at that time.
Hector deserves his own thread, I suppose... There's no way that cute little thing we saw in Family was 17 years old - too much energy to jump beds and too much teeth to chew a cane!
I like to think that Wilson is 40. But it's just my personal fanon, I don't remember anything on the show that gave us any indication about his age.

Yes this indicates that House and Wilson were friends. House used the phrase "best friends" when Bonnie was shocked that House recalled Bonnie and Wilsonb's first date.

Wilson didn't believe Hector jumped up on the sink to get at House's vicodin because he said Hector had arthritis. This reinforces the idea that Hector is indeed 17.

That's true - All we've gotten is "we're not 18" - Safe; and Boy Wonder oncologist - Histories.

Oy vey - can I tell you how headdesk-worthy the H/W timeline is to me?
Anyway, it certainly isn't canon that House and Wilson have known each other for 17 years and it won't be unless stated explicitly on the show. It is the personal canon of many people, however. I don't know.
Idon is right - we just don't have enough information on the two to be able to work anything out.

Am I imagining things, or has Wilson called House 'old' before? I know he joked about House losing his hair in Safe, which might imply an age difference, but doesn't really tell us anything.

Me too, until we get another random mention of their past together, I'm not even gonna attempt to mess with it. It gives me a headace.

The comment in Meaning in Wilson's office where Wilson says to House - you're in your mid-forties, you're popping Vicodin ever since you've been middle age. I don't have the exact quote - Shemett do you have it?

Thank You, Cakey!
I, for one, just don't believe that they've known each other that long. Wilon would've been just entering med school and House would've thirty. I just don't think they cross paths then.
We know that Hector was seveteen but Wilson and Bonnie could've got Hector when he was older. I know plenty of people (myself included) who refer to all dogs as puppies.

I actually think the problem is TPTB simply don't have this all mapped out. They more or less let random writers inject another random fact about H/W past, and we're the ones picking up the pieces. We're like Wilson
And yet, I can't stop myself
We know that Hector was seveteen but Wilson and Bonnie could've got Hector when he was older. I know plenty of people (myself included) who refer to all dogs as puppies.
But Bonnie also said he was not housetrained. Of course, not only puppys are like that.. enough! *pulls hair out in frusteration*

Just for you, pumpkin.
Wilson: You're 40 something years old, you've been running God knows how many miles a day, fallen a hundred times off that skateboard and you're shocked to have some soreness?
House: Just give me a prescription.
Wilson: For Vicodin? House, people get aching joints, cramps, they put on an ice pack, they take some ibuprofen.
House: I know what the pangs of middle age feel like.
Wilson: No, you don't, because you've been stuffing vicodin every 5 minutes since you turned middle age.

Will you call me crazy if I tell you that I'm fascinated with their timeline ?
It doesn't make any sense!
For me the problem wasn't Hector's age or how old was Wilson when he got married the first time. The problem is the LLB!
If House knows Wilson for that long, how he didn't know anything, anything at all, about a second brother? Such a family secret and he missed it!
Maybe that's why TPTB never mention the LLB again, so I shouldn't hold my breath waiting for some news about him, should I?
Idon wrote:

Even if he didn't I can't imagine Hector jumping that sink. I have a bigger dog (a three years old cocker spaniel) and a much larger sink and she never tried to jump it, but then I never had Vicodin in my sink either...

Well see, then that'd make me crazy as well. As frustrating as it can get, I'm a complete backstory!whore. I can't resist jumping into a timeline conversation.
Taiga- 11-01-2007
Sadly I think that TPTB have forgotten about LLB. Prove me wrong, writers, prove me wrong!
idonmatrix- 11-01-2007
I think the LLB will resurface. I always thought the LLB was around the same age as House and probably was estranged from the Wilson family once he reached adulthood. Maybe LLB is considered the relative that no one dare speak of, which happens in families all the time. I went to grad school with a woman who had passed off her adult daughter and teenage son as her siblings for years. Even her husband didn't know before he married her that she had two out of wedlock children. She was 13 years older than her daughter and seventeen years older than her son.
I think it's possible for House and Wilson to have known each other for twenty years and Wilson to have never spoken of his brother. Afterall Wilson is secretive and very good at keeping secrets.
If we use the revelation of the LLB as a marker for when House and Wilson met, then that would mean "Hector the puppy" was least 4 or 5 years old when Bonnie and Wilson got him on their honeymoon. I think Hector was intended as a timemarker for the House/Wilson relationship. There's really no other reason for establishing his age.
hwshipper- 11-01-2007
I spent many hours of my life working on my personal canon H/W timeline.
I'm not quite so happy with it as I once was, :? but I still think it stands up pretty well (and I use it as the basis of all my fic).

I agree - but still think that Hector was a wrong "casting" for the role and was chosen just because his good looks!
I don't think we should doubt Bonnie's words about buying a "puppie" in their Honeymoon, and we probably wouldn't if Hector looked like a 17 year old dog.
I think the LLB will resurface.
How much I want to believe that! But I strongly suspect that TPTB changed their minds about the H/W timeline and the LLB will be never mentioned again - but I wouldn't mind be proved wrong, too...
This is the kind of speculation that only will stop when we got a definitive answer or when the show end.
I knew that someone had made a good timeline... It was you Shipper :) Thanks for the link!
