What if Wilson read House's reaction in the restaurant as horror at the idea of sleeping with Wilson, and Wilson's response to this rejection was moving in with Amber? As in, that was the catalyst?

That's what I thought it was: shock, from House, and just befuddlement from Wilson, and moving in with CTB, part of Wilson's pattern: same as with Grace.
NightOwl- 02-10-2008
Awww, Taiga, I hadn't thought of that. How sad!
I read House's reaction as mild shock and freaking-out, not horror. But I can see how Wilson might read that as horror.
Lully- 02-10-2008
So, let me get this straight (well, sort of...): Wilson read House's reaction as horror and then decided to move in with Amber and teased House with that whole "we're a couple, let's date"? That would be a peculiar reaction.
I think Wilson was already decided to move in with Amber when they met at the Japanese restaurant. And I didn't see horror in House's expression, shock, sure. But his expression also reminded me his "eureka" moments, like if he finally could understand a complicated puzzle, so I suppose Wilson would have to see that too.
What I'm not so sure is if Wilson noticed the similarities between House and Amber before that moment. It's hard to tell what exactly was Wilson's reaction. He didn't seem surprised or shocked, not even annoyed, like so many other times when House says something outrageous. He was just there, and for some reason, for me he seemed almost amused.
I'll admit that their next conversation - the "we're a couple" thing - puzzles me a little. Why Wilson was doing that? He expected to scare House enough that he wouldn't want to talk about it? He raised the bet, to see how far House would go? Theories?

To me it seemed more like he was trying to make House stop pushing the subject. I don't think he was seriously annoyed-more like amused-but still wanted House to drop it. House came to a deduction ("you're sleeping with me") and Wilson thought he should confirm it so House would stop bothering him. It was like saying "Okay House, you're right(as always) now leave me alone!"
But of course there are various interpretations to this scene (the beauty of the show), so that's just one way to look at it.
Lully- 02-10-2008
Oh yes! The myriad of interpretations is astonishing! :D
The first time I watched I had the same impression: Wilson wants House to drop the subject - he actually says it explicitly. But then... Why to let the things be simple if we can complicate them?
Did Wilson really believe that House would drop it? House is like a dog, chasing a hidden bone. Wilson never agrees with him so easily, more so in that kind of situation. Wilson's agreement only raised House's suspicions and at the end of the scene we were left with another question: what's House is trying to avoid?
Since we don't have anything else to talk about for a while, speculation is fun!

See Lully, I knew there was a reason I liked you!
Well. I'm sure Wilson didn't actually expect House to drop it, but one can hope. Or-and I just thought of that- maybe in fact he didn't want House to drop it at all. (I actually like that thought..)
Maybe what House wanted to avoid at that point, was running out of reasons to keep meddling in W/A. As long as he felt that there was something off with the whole thing, he could keep looking into it and bugging Wilson about it,thus making sure he's still in Wilson's life. Letting it go, would mean accept the fact that Wilson has moved on and I can see why he would want to avoid that. Not because he wants Wilson for himself-necessarily-but because he is indeed afraid that he might lose Wilson as a friend.
Although we know that's not going to happen. (At least it had better not.)

Aww, thanks george
I like your theories and isn't House cute when he's insecure?
george1988- 02-10-2008
Cute. Absolutely.
Now excuse me as I go watch the ep again to see excactly how cute he is. And Wilson of course.
NightOwl- 02-10-2008
When ISN'T House cute?
I think Wilson was pushing House to see how far he could go with him.

Absolutely, and he doesn't often let himself be seen as insecure; when he does it's usually with Wilson. Ergo, he is cutest with Wilson. Of course we knew that already.
 The ILU thread has reached 100 pages!

Well I think Wilson made it clear what he thought House was hiding. Wilson came to the conclusion that House wanted to sleep with him. Wilson then taunts House "Well if you had shown me those flashing eyes before I was involved . . . Then Wilson rejects him "oh well c'est la vie. And I use the French because you're an ass". So House thinks Wilson's in love with him and Wilson thinks House wants to jump him. I see a House/Wilson kiss in the very near future.
But what I have been thinking about lately is how they will get rid of Amber. I noticed something in the Amber/House scene in Amber's apt. It was in the middle of the day. Does Amber have a full-time job? or has she just returned to her consulting? What happens when she returns to full-time work?
