I'm not watching the homerun derby (just came in from working in the yard...), but I agree Evan Longoria needs to change his name. I do a double-take every single time he shows up on my Google News page :)

It's pretty exciting, Josh Hamilton hit 28 homers in the first round.
I do a double-take every time I hear his name and always think" damn, I thought she was married to a basketball player"

Evan Longoria should change his name. I may be from San Antonio and love the boy to death, but I don't put it past Tony Parker to forget which Longoria is his.

Is the all star game ever going to end? :)

I'm waiting for the good old 21st inning stretch. The husband is making me stay up to report back to him when it's over. He has to work tomorrow, I'm off.

Glad that I wasn't the only one that went the distance, way past 1am on the East coast.
And still the National league couldn't win. :x

Anyone else getting sick and tired of this whole Favre saga? I wish they would just work it out so ESPN can start talking about other things again.
In other sports news, the Olympic soccer tournament started today. Yay, two more days before the opening.

The man needs to learn how to keep his word. If you're going to retire, retire. If you feel like you want to play, grab the kids and go to the backyard.
So, with the Olympics, anyone want to own up to rooting for a team that's not your home country? It sounds insane, but I don't want Team USA to win the gold in basketball. Nope... Argentina. My soul mate Manu Ginobili is on that team, therefore they are love.
I'll never forget the time my mom saw Manu at the grocery store. I was in Austin studying for finals, when suddenly I start getting texts like, "Manu buys potato chips... and stamps."

Since I watch most of the Olympics coverage on CBC rather than NBC (God bless living near the border and the Canadian's lovely tendency to show the actual sports, rather than sob stories, and to show them -- gasp -- live) I obviously cheer for a lot of Canadians. Besides, they're so happy to have someone finish in the top 10 for anything, they completely turn the "win or nothing" attitude of the U.S. coverage on its ear.

This is going to be my first summer Olympics in the US so I'm kind of dreading the coverage to be honest. I wasn't very impressed with what NBC did to the winter Games.
I'm obviously rooting for my birth country. I can't turn those feelings off and I'm having a sneaking suspicion that I'll be rooting even harder than I did when I was still living there.

Wow, London is going to have a heck of a time to try to outdo that opening. I also go on and state that if everyone stays healthy, I can totally see Steve Redgrave being the final torchbearer in London.
But back to Beijing, the parade of the countries was long, but I guess it's for most of those athletes the most beautiful moment of their sports careers. It also warmed my cold, cold heart to see so many big names attending the parade like Federer, Nadal, Kobe Bryant and other members of the Redeem Team.
Final thought, Yao Ming is freakishly tall. He speaks very good English too.
Go Holland go!!!

NBC is pretty horrible. At some point I must have had cable here, because I remember watching the CBC coverage years ago and it was much better. I was in London during part of the 2000 games, and the BBC was better yet.
(It's also annoying that DirecTV hasn't turned on the soccer channel yet. I suppose they'll turn it on just in time for the rest days...)
I gave up watching the opening ceremony because the announcer dudes stage whispering over the music got to be too annoying. It's still on, but muted and behind me, so I have no idea what's going on. That giant scroll is impressive though.
I hope anyone prone to seizures skipped the beginning. All those flashing lights on the drums were making me twitchy :)

I skipped the Opening Ceremony, thinking that going to see Brideshead Revisited was a better use of time (I was right), but I do have one comment: I love my sexy Argentine!.
Is it too obsessive that tomorrow I'll be watching the rowing, thinking only of Hugh?

I'm just gonna say "no, no way is that obsessive at all!" because I was thinking the exact same thing...

Chippers, I'd love to know what you thought of the new BR (in the movie thread).
I am devoted to the old one with Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews, so I am a bit wary of the remake. Is it worth seeing?
