I agree that Wilson pining after House without a return would probably only get tedious after a while. However, I have to say that I think an interesting facet of their relationship is that there is always a kind of give-and-take. Taiga said that unrequited crushes don't last a long time, but the thing with House and Wilson's relationship, I feel, is that there will always be just enough that Wilson gets out of it to keep him coming back. After all, no matter how much of a jerk House acts sometimes, he certainly isn't indifferent to Wilson, and there is no doubt that in some messed-up ways he really needs Wilson. So even if Wilson is in love with House but House doesn't love Wilson back romantically, I think the kind of love that House does have for Wilson-- the neediness and codependency-- would make it incredibly difficult for Wilson to give up hope on a relationship for them and could keep him stuck in love with House for a while.

My problem with Wilson having unrequited love for House is the same problem I had with Honey: everyone falls in love with House. How are we supposed to buy that he's this lonely miserable bastard when everyone loves him? I read this study once about how people fall in love and they concluded that the biggest factor was discovering that the person you're attracted to likes you back. That's why crushes don't last. Unrequited love lasting for 20 years makes for great literature, but in real life it's rare. *stamping feet* Wilson was in love with him first! All these Alis, and Honeys, and even Camerons are just Jilly-Come-Lately's. I know it hasn't been in evidence much in S3, but before then Wilson knew House liked him back - Wilson was special to House in a way no one else was. Who else made House laugh? Who else would House confide in? (Taiga, I love your analysis, but got a kick out of this: "in real life it's rare." The day House MD uses real life for their basis, I'll fall off my chair in shock. Hee, hee, hee.)

NOOOO! I just wrote a ten-paragraph-long essay on the nuances of sexuality that the interweb ATE! DAMNIT. I can't remember everything I was saying, but mostly that for the sake of verisimilitude and the overall writing quality of the show, I couldn't ask for a House and Wilson Together Forever storyline. Two ostensibly heterosexual men simultaneously coming out in middle age in order to have a relationship with one another is wayy too unlikely. What I was advocating in my TRAGICALLY deleted post was that I don't actually see House as wanting Wilson physically, but that I do see Wilson as being in love with House romantically (and therefore with a degree of lust). I didn't mean "unrequited", however, in the depressing sense that Wilson is pathetic for even trying, and that he'd quickly lose interest because House is never going to return the feeling. That's not at all what I meant. What I tried to say was that I agree with Cirro that House is very attracted to Wilson, his need to be needed complimenting House's obvious need quite perfectly. I don't think this translates into quite-romantic love, but I do think that House needs Wilson around and loves him more than anyone else in his life (remember "Daddy's Boy"? he uses Wilson to get out of seeing his family). This is why I think Wilson actually wanting House is so intriguing and worth exploring by TPTB on the show. Wilson knows House well enough to know that it wouldn't work out, but he can't help himself. And House's reactions would be SOOO interesting. Bonnie: " just so knight in shining armor, you know, until he's not, but by then you're hooked. All that attention...it's addictive." House: *looks away fondly, clearly thinking of Wilson* See, he does LOVE him. There is potential. ETA: Yes, Jouse, how could I forget?? You are quite right. Bonnie: "Sex with James...is incredible. I mean, no one works harder to give a woman what she wants." *House stares hungrily into space* "It's got six burners."

Not to mention his face when Bonnie tells him how fantastic Wilson is in bed. If HL didn't have the slash in mind I'm a watermelon.

romanshoes- 08-20-2007

My theory: Wilson spends all of his time making sure his ladyfriends have spectacular orgasms. The ladyfriends then tend not to notice that he had, like, no fun at all. So Wilson's later "Bonnie said I was bad in bed?!!" had, to me, an extra element of "Oh shit, she realized I'm gay." I think this is my only workable theory in the history of everything I have ever thought about.

Thanks, LMC!

Norah- 08-21-2007

Not all Norah (I totally read ) and I think it's safe to say that all the H/W folk on the HoYay thread give this a decent amount of thought (heh). I like your scenario for canon H/W, I can see RSL and HL playing it really well and honest. Thanks Sans Serif. Yeah, when I should be busy doing more important things I'm thinking up ways that House & Wilson could get together. What I tried to say was that I agree with Cirro that House is very attracted to Wilson, his need to be needed complimenting House's obvious need quite perfectly. It wouldn't be your typical unrequited crush because of House's need for Wilson, his possessiveness of him, and the fact that Wilson is without doubt the most important person in House's life. So it wouldn't be anything like Cameron/House. My theory: Wilson spends all of his time making sure his ladyfriends have spectacular orgasms. The ladyfriends then tend not to notice that he had, like, no fun at all. So Wilson's later "Bonnie said I was bad in bed?!!" had, to me, an extra element of "Oh shit, she realized I'm gay." Cleaning out my bookmarks(again, it's amazing how many I add in like 2 months) and I found this.

My God, Brokeback Hospital! It's only a small exaggeration to say this vid got me onto H/W in the first place.

Brokeback Hospital! It's only a small exaggeration to say this vid got me onto H/W in the first place. Brokeback has magical powers. It got me secretly shipping for Entourage. Shh! Don't tell anyone
