Or OMG! Chase is frighteningly well-adjusted now?! How long will it last!! Okay, maybe not that here - that goes over in the Spoiler Discussion thread since it'll probably need to be spoiler barred, but how about why Chase chose intensive care versus being a surgeon?

extra_cat- 08-11-2007

Actually, I like him being well adjusted. I think it's a great contrast with House. They're both brilliant. Chase is on his way to being a great diagnostician, which I think is a gift more than a learned skill. They have a lot in common, but Chase seems to be showing that you can be brilliant without being an ass. Foreman shows you can be an ass without being intuitively brilliant. (I'm not saying Foreman isn't smart, but it seems more rigid and academic for him than insightful.) Chase and House both seem to be able to understand people, but while House detests people, Chase doesn't. I don't want to see Chase move backward and become bitter and spiteful.

Oooh, it looks cozy here. I like it. I'm really anxious to see how House deals with a well adjusted Chase, since House uses his brilliance as an excuse to be an ass.

::tackle hugs extra_cat back:: Hee. Hi, Saara, and thank you for telling me about this place. I'm worried about what will happen with Chase given the new people. He finally got some focus and I fear it will be lost and he'll be wallpaper again. I'd give anything to see him get an arc/focus like Foreman has gotten.

Dru- 08-12-2007

Oooh new shiny Chase thread! Fun! (*waves* I'm Dru17 over on TWoP) I'm just hoping Chase isn't wallpaper this season. I want to see more of that confident, smart Chase we got in Season 3.

Yay! Chasers around :). I was watching Season 1 episodes of House just a few days ago, and I was shocked at how different Chase was then - not extremely likeable is quite an understatement. What do you guys think happened? Did the prettiness take over all the nasty plans that the writers had for him? Did the character just develop a personality of his own? :) I really like this Chase - but as others have said ... it really cannot last in this show! I'm also expecting a life altering event for Dr Pritty Hairs, but as long as it involved loads of screen time and a slow and (well screened recovery), I'm in for it! (I'm formerly known as Maltese on TWOP *waves*) JUST HAD A THOUGHT! Recent pics have shown Chase back to his floppy long hair - what if it might indicate flashbacks of his interview 3 years before?? It's a long shot ... but I have nothing else to do other than speculate at this point :(

Honestly, I think the character of Chase got screwed when FOX demanded that House incorporate a villian into the story. Vogler was not in the initial conception of the show, so it stands to reason that Chase-as-betrayer was not in the intial concept either. That may explain why House barely punished him and he got to stick around so long. Speculation, of course, but it makes sense to me.

Ah, all the fellow Chasers are here. It feels like home. I'll try to actively engage in discussion this time and not lurk for fear of being off topic. Anyway, this one has been bothering me all day (okay summer). Why did House fire Chase? If Foreman and Cameron hadn't quit, do you think he would have hired him back? Does this question belong here? Sorry, I'm still a little gun shy about getting my threads wrong. My thinking, he fired him at first to prove a point to Wilson. I'm thinking he was planning on bringing him back once Foreman stayed. Anyone care to debunk that theory? Oh, and I was ajj on TWOP, but since I rarely posted there, who would know? fluffy is far more well known.

extra_cat- 08-13-2007

I think House expected Chase to run to Foreman and Cameron and tell them exactly what he had said. "You've been here the longest. You've either learned all you can or nothing at all." (which may not be exact! LOL) Obviously, Chase had learned a lot because he was getting cases right, suggesting crazy procedures that were functional, and standing up for his medical ideas along with showing his insightfulness about his colleagues. Anyway, the point was: Chase has learned. He's ready. Foreman, you're still not ready. But Chase didn't tell them what House said. So Foreman didn't get the message. I think House probably would have brought Chase back, probably with something stupid like, "You took me seriously? You idiot. I ought to fire you for being a moron. Now go do my clinic hours."

saara_zaara- 08-13-2007

fluffy, welcome & you're in the right place. I actually think left to himself House would not have hired him back. He's not panicking without Chase as he did in forever, their relationship has moved on & part of it is House wanting to prove a point, but - and I know I'm in a minority here - but I do believe there was some altruism on House's part that Chase was ready to move on & it was in fact the best thing for him to do (House is actually quite protective of Chase on occasion).

melly- 08-14-2007

Well, I think House probably had several reasons for firing Chase. He probably was trying to show Foreman either a.) Chase is ready and you're not or b.) I don't care that you're quitting, and I can fire any of you on a whim. He was certainly prompted by Wilson's "You're no good with change" speech and was trying to prove Wilson wrong as well. However, I don't think for a minute that House would have done it if he felt that Chase wasn't ready. House swallows his pride at the end of Human Error and asks Foreman to stay, and I believe that was solely for Foreman's benefit since House would never really earnestly admit that he needs anybody. I'm torn on whether or not he would have brought Chase back. On one hand I can completely picture House playing it off like he was joking, and on the other I think that there is a part of House that wants distance from Chase because he's afraid of the possibility of someone being able to do what he does without having to be a miserable jerk. "You took me seriously? You idiot. I ought to fire you for being a moron. Now go do my clinic hours." LMAO! If House had brought Chase back, I have no doubt it would have went exactly like that.

Chase may seem to do be doing really well and be adjusted now but, don't forget, he's dating Cameron. I don't think the most zen person on earth could keep his cool in these circumstances.... Another aspect imo of House firing Chase is that Chase was getting too darned good at reading House and was through with backing down and being invisible. What precipitated the firing was that Chase saw what was going on wrt Foreman and he wasn't having any when it came to compromising the dx and he was in House's face about it. He was getting too close, challenging House like an equal and like friend.... I suspect that House wouldn't have fired him he really hadn't thought he was ready professionally--learned all he could or however House put it--but I think the too-close-for-comfort behavior was what finally did it. I think it's a nice parallel to when House punched Chase--I saw that as being a dazed and confused response to Chase getting in his face and touching him.

He's far too functional for this show right now. I bet he'll end up losing an arm or something next season, just to make up for it. This is true. My theory is that Chase will wind up in ICU for some reason based on the idea that everyone gets a medical crisis in their own field. Cameron, the Immunologist: HIV scare Foreman, the Neurologist: brain surgery Cuddy, the Endocrinologist: hormone problems/infertility House, the Nephrologist: bladder/kidney problems By that standard, Chase will wind up in critical care and Wilson will have a cancer scare before the series is over. Where the H have I been? I never made that connection before. Around Season 1 I would've thought Foreman stood the chance of being the most normal, but now . . . um, NO. Chase definitely, of the fellows. Hold onto your eyes/arm buddy.

extra_cat- 08-15-2007

I loved the way Chase was reading House (and everyone else) by the end of the season. I think he's always had that gift for reading people (why he gets along well with patients/families), but it has been different for him to freely speak up about his observations of his coworkers. I think you're right that Chase was getting too close for House's comfort. ETA: Chase thread finally has a title!

Quite frankly, I'm just waiting for some sort of Chase-centric story that isn't romance related. That's all we got last season (Which I'm refering to as the season of he--). Plus I hope we still get to see him a fair ammount despite the whole Arizona thing. And Chase and Wilson deserve their hurt moments too.
