So is anyone else in the LA area going to try to go to the Leno taping tomorrow? I'm still planning to go super early and pick up tickets in the morning. Should I grab any extras?

Wow...all this talk about sharing the singing duties! Honestly...I'm surprised there's not a little more excitement here at the idea that it seems like it's gonna be Hugh front and center with the band tomorrow night! I couldn't be happier about that so I totally can't wait! But I'm a bad BFTV fan cause as much as I really like all the members and love what they do...I only follow them for Hugh so I was hoping for a Hugh-heavy song. I guess we'll see what they actually end up playing but I hope it's "Will it Go Round..." That's my favorite from the CD.
I'm SOOO stoked! Honestly, Hugh is the reason I love them, and I hate to admit it, but if it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't continue to follow the band like I do. However, I've fallen in love with Greg Grunberg and Bonnie Somerville, so I feel like I've grown to love the band as a whole :D
On the Tonight Show, Leno said, when referring to tomorrow's guests:
"Tomorrow Night, Hugh Laurie will be here with his band, Band From TV, an all celebrity band, with names so huge we can't mention them all now." I couldn't really tell based on his tone if that was poking fun at the rest of the band's sort of "B" status celebrity and it just didn't get a laugh, or he was being sincere.

He wasn't making fun of the band, he was being coy in that way that Leno does where half the people think he's being cute and half the people are annoyed by him.

If it was just Hugh sitting there playing the piano and singing all by himself I'd be super happy, I'm just trying to think of it from the band's POV and it seems unlikely they'd have Hugh do his thing and have Bob sit on a stool and clap in time. I'm just trying to figure out how they're arranging it. Although, tbh, I'd be happy if Hugh was there in the background too. I don't really care. He's gonna be interviewed and he's gonna be playing with his band and it seems like he'd be happy either way and if he's comfortable doing what he's doing, I think that would translate. All that said, I'm a fan of Greg and Jamie independently of Hugh Laurie, so I want to see them and assume that others tune in for Adrian, Jesse, Bob etc., without caring that much about Hugh.

I'm with you on that! I like the whole band and think all the members are great (Adrian is the only one I don't really know anything about but I'm sure he's a great guy!)...but Hugh's my main interest so seeing him front and center works for me!

Oh I hear ya! And I think you're right that people will tune in for the band too and be interested in more than just Hugh (or not Hugh at all in some cases)! I just meant I thought this thread...since it's an HL zone  would be thrilled that Hugh might go front and center. It's cool to me cause I love the songs he sings lead on the best. But I'm wondering how they'll arrange it to...I'm thinking it won't be Hugh singing every verse.

I'm thrilled to see Hugh playing with the band again. Other than the surprise appearance at Netflex, he hadn't played with them for almost a year. I wonder if he is back in the fold or if this is a rare appearance? There was a mention that Greg said on his twitter (evertime I write that word, my mind goes in the gutter) that they would play in Florida. Now I don't see Hugh doing that but do wonder if he will start doing local gigs again? He really is a talented musician and if they continue to cut back on his scenes in the show (which I don't like at all), he may feel he has the time.
I do think we will see Bob G doing some lead vocals though. That is his role with the band and I have a hard time imagining the gentleman that Hugh is having it any other way. Maybe we will get 2 songs with one of them Hugh singing lead.
On another subject, did everyone read the Playboy article? Something caught my attention and if it is true, I am glad that Hugh is now cool with it. Am I right in thinking he is now taking anti-depressants? That was something he never would take before because he thought it would affect his creative process. It seems he was able to overcome that obstacle and it has helped him with his confidence while working. It probably makes it a little easier for his castmates, too. Anyway I applaud him for taking that step.
It had been so dry of Hugh sightings and news and now I feel like I am being blessed for my patience. Well, I really had no choice with that but it is damn good to see Hugh again. Can't wait for Leno tonight.

Hugh is always very quick to point out that it is not his band. Last time on Leno he corrected Jay saying,"I'm in the band, but it's not MY band." He always credits GG for putting the group together.
I do understand why Leno would announce tonight's musical guests as HL's band. I know many people who are fans of HL and others in BFTV who have no idea the band exists. So I'm glad for them getting national TV exposure.

Anyone know how international Playboy is? Is the HL interview going to be only in the US Playboy?
Boffle- 01-16-2009
I think Hugh has detached himself from being a regular BFTV member, but I also think he'll play with them from time to time. My guess is that there were such high expectations for him to show up (and severe disappointments expressed when he didn't) that it got to be too much pressure, and less fun for him. So by just appearing in a drive-by manner, those who show up anyway get to see him and those fans are thrilled and since (unless firmly announced, like on Leno) no one really expects him to be there, he's not disappointing anyone if he doesn't show. I think it's better this way from his POV, which is, I think, the important one since a happy Hugh is a good thing. :-)
Looking forward to Leno. Wonder if we'll be surprised...

Sdemar. where is the Playboy article? I don't remember it being released fully yet...am I missing something?

By the fact that it doesn't suck. Jay Leno is the worst interviewer. The only reason I watch is because Hugh Laurie is on. He asks the same questions every time, interrupts the guest, he isn't funny and he just plain sucks.
On a side note so does SNL. Conan was so excited for Hugh to be the host but I guess the writers weren't because compared to the first time he was on-FAIL. Although I did think that Hugh was cute in the the lamp sketch.

Yes, well. I doubt that's what anyone was referring to, but okay. Every interviewer asks the same questions over and over again, even our sainted Craig Ferguson. And the Conan interview might as well have been called "Hugh's Greatest Hits." It happens.
TJRX- 01-16-2009
Is an online version of the PB interview already available? I was under the impression that it would be next week.

It's on-line now.

Wow. With that tone, you might want to investigate our Bitterness thread. That's a whole lotta angry for a first post. ;-)
Anyhow, welcome to HHoW. You should go over to the new people thread and introduce yourself.
