It does look like the same hat sdemar as in Needle in a Haystack. He seems to like all kinds of hats. Remember the store in Half-Wit where he tried on the cowboy hat? I could really see him doing some kind of modern day cowboy role. Wonder if he can ride horses. Silly me. He can do everything! He could probably lasso and hogtie a steer on the first try! Ha! kittylugnut, me too! Well, not right away, but as soon as I clicked on my ipod. And I can't quite make out all the words near the end, but I'm working on it. I don't know how he is with a lasso, but I know he can ride at least a little because they used horses in Blackadder. I remember a story about SF, who doesn't like horses, and the feeling seems to be mutual, getting on one that started bucking and rearing up, nearly throwing poor Stephen. He complained that Hugh and Rowan were sitting there on their own horses just laughing their heads off at his problem.

Today I'm going to lose some of the Hugh-virginity I have left. :D Yesterday I finally FINALLY managed to get a copy of The Gunseller, which I have not read yet. It had to travel hundreds of miles from another library to mine, but it is lying next to my bed now. And tonight I will watch Maybe Baby on television. Since I am easily embarrassed I suspect I will watching a lot of it through my fingers, but if I can watch Hugh dressed like a lamp, I can watch Hugh dressed like Adam, right? Oh, and yesterday I watched an episode of Bones with Stephen in it, which was a first for me. This has been a good week so far. jonne, are you already enjoying hughish Christmas?:) The other day, I wrote in the introduction theads that Dr.House 3 dubbed version starts in January in Japan, but sorry, I mad a mistake. In fact, it starts tonight. So hopefully, after 24 weeks, we'll be able to watch Season 4, subtitled. When they're doing dubbed version, I always change the mode to the original language. All the medical jargons will be "!#$%&%' for me, but I'm so addicted to Hugh's voice... And talking about Bones, FOX Channel(Japan) uses the same actor for the voice of Agent Booth and Gregory House.:D (I can't understand what they are thinking!) ...but, as it were, when Stephen Fry was in Bones, Hugh(Booth) and Stephen were co-staring in Japanese. :)

Last night I was watching ABOFL and in s1e3 (the last sketch) I wondered about the baby playing the role William . Then I checked on the net that it was Charlie, Hugh's eldest son. In the credits he was named as Charlie Green.(His wife's surname) This is what the Wiki says; Charlie had a cameo in A Bit of Fry and Laurie in the last sketch of the episode entitled Special Squad, as baby William (whom Stephen and Hugh begin to "interrogate" about "what he's done with the stuff", calling him a scumbag and telling him that he's been a very naughty boy) during his infancy Has anyone noticed this before? Mod note - a little heavy on the bold type. I've changed it to a quotation box. Poeia

Yeah that's kind of old news. I always thought it was hilarious to see Stephen crack up during that sketch.

I love the lamp sketch. The more I watch it, the more I think it might be one of the best things I've ever seen. I like HL's hand movements and the way he switches himself on before singing each time. I can see a future career on Broadway (New York, not Iraq), perhaps even in the full length version of Lamps! with RSL as the peach-coloured one. I wonder what RSL thought of it. Janey (was it Michaela Watkins?) reminded me a bit of Emma Thompson in looks and manner. I got a bit confused the first time by the peach-coloured lamp's accent. I thought he said, "We talking lamps would be hunted like ducks," but then realised it was "dogs". I loved Bob Kemp too, not just for HL's acting but his appearance: the handkerchief carelessly stuffed into the pocket and the too short trouser legs. How do you pronounce Chrysler? I always imagined it was how Bob Kemp said it. I've been wondering if I've spotted Stephen Fry. At 48:28 (while the preparation for the lamps sketch is happening on stage) there is someone standing at the back of the balcony to the left of the EXIT sign, wearing light brown trousers and a dark red short-sleeved jumper (which in America would probably not be called a "short-sleeved jumper" I don't know what you'd call it). He looks tall and is wearing the sort of clothes SF might wear, but beyond that I'm not sure. Maybe it wasn't him and he was watching from somewhere completely out of shot. I think if HL was required to ride a horse for a role he would do it properly and not yank the horse's head about and flap his legs, which I've seen actors do in period dramas, and makes me shout at the TV!

Poeia- 12-16-2008

A jumper in America is a dress young girls wear over blouses. What you saw could be called a sweater or a pull-over. (You can also use "sweater" for cardigans and sweater-vests, etc.) Most people pronounce Chrysler as if it doesn't have an "h" -- cry sler.

amysusanne- 12-16-2008

I loved Bob Kemp too. How do you pronounce Chrysler? I always imagined it was how Bob Kemp said it. He pronounced it with more of a Z sound than the hissy S sound. Still, I've heard plenty of folks pronounce it both ways. Just depends on what region you're in. It wasn't a huge faux pas. The one that jumped out at me was the way he said Fiat. Screencap, please? And we'd probably just call it a sweater. eta: nevermind, just found it. I can't tell one way or the other, but the guy next to him totally looks like Baldwin. Or, rather, since he probably wouldn't be wearing a suit out to a taping on Friday night, it looks like Jack Donaghy. eta again: Most people pronounce Chrysler as if it doesn't have an "h" -- cry sler. Wait...how *did* he pronounce it then? What I heard was cryzler.

Poeia- 12-16-2008

amysusanne, you're probably right (although I think I'll have to watch that skit 5 or 6 more times tonight -- just to be sure.) My impression was that he stumbled over it and sort of added an extra syllable, but that may have been the "z" that sounded that way to me. ETA: Thank you, Hulu. amysusanne, you are correct -- he used a "z" sound."

Boffle- 12-16-2008

he handkerchief carelessly stuffed into the pocket And here, you must bow down at HL's wonderfulness in portraying Bob Kemp. That's not a handkerchief stuffed in Bob's pocket, it's a.....napkin!!! That plus the high water pants plus that voice soooo close to the mic? Genius! Also I took it that those were Bob Kemps' weird auto name pronunciations, not HL's. Hee! I'm still enjoying that show so much. I guess being home on show days helps too.

radiosweetheart- 12-16-2008

Finally got around to watching this last night. Bronx Beat was brilliant. Weekend Update was pleasant. Hugh was good with what he had to work with. And beyond that...I've seen worse. It was fun, not complaining, but it wasn't wonderful or anything.

Chipmunk_love- 12-16-2008

Okay, question: did Hugh's lamp have a working light? I can't figure out if he really kept turning it on like it seemed he was doing.

spicyride- 12-16-2008

After all these comments I totally need to watch this again... Maybe at lunch considering its snowing so I have no desire to leave.

Boffle- 12-16-2008

Hard to tell Chippers, it was off, he pulled the cord, then it was on, but it seemed a bit slow in response. I think it was just well-timed. Hee! But thanks for getting me to watch it again. I'm now seeing that sketch as biting satire of musical maybe even Disney conventions. Cracks me up!

amysusanne- 12-16-2008

1. I sort of hate all you people who have snow days, not only because it would appear that you're mostly at home, but also because it was freezing here last week and now it's about to hit seventy and that's just not right. 2. I love Boffle's interpretation that the pronunciations were by choice. To be honest, I buy that. It might be total fanwank, but even if they were Hugh's mispronunciations, they were pretty much in character. 3. They're not Hugh-related, but the two things that have consistently made me laugh when I've thought about them later, are Bobby Moynihan's totally random "WHHHAAAAAAT?" mic throwdown during the wedding sketch and Patterson trying to score "circus tickets". ETA: Thank you, Hulu. amysusanne, you are correct -- he used a "z" sound." Thanks for checking that. Not that it was torture to sit through Hugh, but whatever. {g} I managed to convince myself after posting that I'd been so distracted by "Fiat" that I didn't actually remember how he said the rest.
