Well, now, isn't that interesting? Along with others of you, I wrote the paper and Mr. Wigney last night. What I didn't expect was a reply. What I really didn't expect was an apology. I got both. Turns out Wigney is an HL fan, and has been for many years, and is (or seemed to be) embarrassed by his gaffe. He said if he'd just paid attention -- or done some research -- he'd have known it was HL singing. Now, let's see if he runs a correction/retraction/apology in print. Did they issue any kind of update or retraction? Even if it's just a little blurb in the next issue (i.e., the usual "in issue #whatever we misidentified blah blah blah as blah blah blah), it's still nice to see that he actually cared that he made a mistake. Big points for that. Good for him. House didn't actually light that cigar i think it was just to annoy Wilson...lol Wasn't he smoking a cigar at the end of "All In"? With smoke and everything? Totally against the rules of any hospital clinic? Hugh is a smoker, but House isn't so he was obviously doing a good job of smoking 'uncomfortably'. I disagree with the idea that he was smoking "uncomfortably". I don't think a first time smoker would be quite so casual with a cigarette and, imo, he was. He did a fantastic job of portraying a guy who wanted to be anywhere but where he actually was, but I didn't see anything weird about the cigarette or his handling of it.

And smokes like a man who knows his way around a cigar. {g} House also has an ashtray in his home which has been known (okay, at least once that we've seen) to have a cigar stub in it.

amy - regarding that Wigney article and a possible retraction, someone on the Fox board says they got the following e-mail from him: I just got another reply from Wig: I see little choice but to address the issue next Friday. I've received many messages, as you can probably imagine, and am feeling duly humbled. I really do research these things, normally, but I certainly blew this one. For what it's worth, I've already made a donation to Save the Children, one of the Band from TV's selected charities, as a self-imposed punishment. Not that I'm usually against saving children or anything. I like to think I'm a good person, really :) Just flawed. Wig

Now I feel bad for the guy because I suspect that a lot of the notes he got on the subject were probably not as polite and well reasoned as the couple that were posted here. Chalk that up to past experience with other angry letters defending Hugh's honor. :-P I like that he's working the whole self deprecating angle, though.

marykir- 10-23-2007

I bet he never risks invoking the wrath of the fandom again :) The last UK guy who dissed Hugh's American accent and got lots of comments about it? In a more recent article that mentions Hugh's accent in reference to (I think) the guy in Journeyman's accent, he put an advance apology right in the article.

amysusanne- 10-23-2007

Poor guy. Both of them. I can't imagine that there weren't at least three petitions started defending the fact that Hugh can, indeed, sing!!! Because this aggression towards Hugh will not stand, man! {g} But, yeah...best to go ahead and cut the angry letters off at the pass.

I hope that the people who received replies thanked him. He didn't have to respond and I imagine he responded mostly to those who were polite.

Sorry for the delay, RL and such. Jouse, you asked him for a hug!? Did you get one? Was it wonderful? What's the height difference? Did you already share details and did I completely miss it? Don't think I have :) Stephen was here to promote Young bright things, so, of course, I ambushed him outside the theater before he came up and asked for a photo and a hug. He was so sweet and nice  and laughed a lot when I thanked him for existing.

Jouse! Jouse! Jouse! *outside myself with excitement* is there any chance at all you'd be willing to share that photo?

Gobblin- 10-23-2007

How rude, i've just been mooching over at a board for my other fav TV programme CSI:Vegas only to walk into Hugh Laurie bashing cause of his accent!! Ok i get not everyone loves House the show but you really have to give Hugh props for his accent. I'm English and theres no way i could do a convincing accent for long periods of time, a few words here or there but nothing to the extent that hugh pulls off every week. He's not even a trained actor either!!! OK rant over.... *settles back down with fellow Hugh loving fans* I love you guys... :)

Edited because I didn't intend to write with a British accent. Best

Speaking of Stephen's blog, he doesn't mention one of his other vices: speeding. I guess since he is driving (well, I'm assuming HE'S actually driving) across the U.S. that he got his license back.

Hugh smokes? That's funny because I was just watching "Words and Deeds" and the scene where House is by the window smoking I thought. "Hugh looks so uncomfortable with that cig, he's obviously not a smoker IRL." But then I'm actually not a smoker, so what do I know. Obviously my radar is off. Yeah, he's such a great actor, he knows House doesn't smoke so he tries to look out of place with it. Thats my theory anyway ;)

olivia720- 10-23-2007

Aw, I'm kind of bummed. I think because I'd prefer he live a long life and continue on with his brilliance. I feel bad about it too. My cousin was just told she has four months to live, thanks to a life of smoking (lung cancer). She's only 50 years old. I hate the thought of his life being shortened, esp since he has kids. I hope he gets to see their kids grow up. Ok, I'm watching him on Leno now. Such a delight to see him on my tv sceen, even though I've seen it before. When I saw the heads up in the other thread, I was like "what what what??!" (said in eric cartman's mom's voice). But then I realized it was a repeat and I hadn't missed anything earth shattering. And he looks so gorgeous I'm just gonna fall dead.
