there's also the fact that Hugh's sister helped found the Long Island chapter and was on the board of trustees in the U.S.
I work in fundraising and this is the kind of information that makes me smile because I talk with donors about the indirect impact they can have by giving. Children notice their parents' philanthropy. The example of giving does sift down and everyone benefits!

Why Long Island? Does she live in the States, or did she come over from the U.K. to do it?
Just preternaturally curious...

Someone posted (here?) that she does live in New England and that her husband worked with the poster's neighbor or some such. I think his sisters were born in Africa when his father was working in the Sudan, so maybe that's part of the reason for their charitable interests in that regard. (Made me wonder if that was part of the reason for the Africa peace sign T-shirt that got so much attention earlier in the season.) Also of course, their father's sustained interest in Save the Children seems to have passed nicely to the kids, as you say, houerocket7!

Long Island is not in New England. If you google her name, she doesn't seem to be involved with Save the Children any more (at least, not on a "name on the literature" level.) It looks like she now works with a relief organization tied to the Episcopalian Church.

Poeia, the poster I referenced said that she had recently moved to New England from the NY area. My post was confirming that yes she does live in the States, but sorry, could have been worded more precisely. Glad to hear she is still doing charity work: she may be indeed working for more than one with a less "visible" role.

Sorry. But after reading fanfics written by people from all over (who's grasp of U.S. geography is every bit as bad as Americans' grasp of theirs) I become accustomed to seeing that Princeton, NJ is in New England, etc.
Of course, the writers of the show don't help by having people fly from Baltimore to ...?
Flights from Trenton require switching planes in Boston. Philadelphia and Newark are both an hour from Princeton which makes the total time going by plane longer than taking the train.

Watch with Kristin has a poll.
Who's the hottest British import currently gracing the small screen?
The results so far:
45.9% Hugh Laurie (House)
21.4% Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies)
17.0% Damian Lewis (Life)
8.5% Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman)
7.2% Kevin McKidd (Journeyman)

If you go to the Watch With Kristen site to vote, you can also see a clip of Damien Lewis being interviewed, using his real accent and being adorable. The interview is the same as what was written a few days ago I think so he talks about stalking Hugh :D

Stephen posted a new blog. Its really great. Its about addiction to sweets and ciggs, among other things. Yay for him for kicking his vices. Maybe he can inspire Hugh to quit smoking.
I tried to post like eighty times and it still doesn't look like my comment got posted. Frustrating that!
I so love his style of writing.

Hugh smokes? That's funny because I was just watching "Words and Deeds" and the scene where House is by the window smoking I thought. "Hugh looks so uncomfortable with that cig, he's obviously not a smoker IRL." But then I'm actually not a smoker, so what do I know. Obviously my radar is off.
LaurieIsLush- 10-23-2007
Hugh is a smoker, but House isn't so he was obviously doing a good job of smoking 'uncomfortably'. :)
Hibernia- 10-23-2007
House smokes cigars, though, right?
LaurieIsLush- 10-23-2007
I've seen many pics and i've indeed seen him in the flesh smoking ciggys
LaurieIsLush- 10-23-2007
House didn't actually light that cigar i think it was just to annoy Wilson...lol

Aw, I'm kind of bummed. I think because I'd prefer he live a long life and continue on with his brilliance.
