...and nowhere that I can find is there info on the CD label or insert that says that Hugh is singing.
You are very much correct. I finally bought the CD, and even though I haven't plugged it into my comp yet (so I cannot see the actual track listing for information via iTunes), HL is only listed as "keyboards." And even then, there is another musician on keys as well. The only way to know that HL is singing, is to listen and know his voice.
That said, I was absolutely shocked to see what the reporter had to say in the article. I bought the CD specifically for the BfTV and "Beautiful" tracks. I could see where the reporter could have been trying to play "Devil's Advocate," but even then, it wasn't needed. From what I could tell, the CD didn't break records, and there aren't any tracks on there, aside from the two mentioned above, that people would rush to the store to get. But, to have a CD with HL on it playing keys and singing? That is enough to get it.

Much as I hate to, I have to say something in defense of Mr. Wigney. His column may be silly, but there is really very little reason for him to realize that Hugh was singing on the BFTV track.
If he didn't definitively know who was singing the track (which he clearly didn't) then he should have checked that out before using the idea that Hugh didn't sing on the track as the jumping off point for his entire column.
Assuming he's not a rabid HL fangirl there's no reason for him to be able to recognize Hugh's voice, and nowhere that I can find is there info on the CD label or insert that says that Hugh is singing.
The BFTV members are listed with Bob as the male vocalist and Hugh as the keyboard player.
Anyone with ears can tell that there are two men singing the majority of the track. He has access that the rest of us don't have, i.e., he can ring up any number of publicists on his speed dial (and he's in Canada, so calling the distributor would cost even less!!!) and clarify.
I'm not surprised Wigney assumed Hugh didn't sing on the CD, because if I were putting out this CD and hoping someone would actually buy it I'd have something about HL's singing in very large letters on the front of the box. Frankly, why should Wigney have to do research to find out that Hugh is on the CD?
Because he's a writer for a widely distributed paper. Whether he's writing about the US exit strategy for Iraq or what the ingredients are in Dr. Pepper, he should check basic facts. Research is actually a pretty important part of his job, even if he is just writing humorous essays for a daily tabloid.
Most people would expect that fact to be advertised, not hidden.
He's a journalist, not an average consumer browsing the racks at Best Buy.

Well, now, isn't that interesting? Along with others of you, I wrote the paper and Mr. Wigney last night. What I didn't expect was a reply. What I really didn't expect was an apology. I got both. Turns out Wigney is an HL fan, and has been for many years, and is (or seemed to be) embarrassed by his gaffe. He said if he'd just paid attention -- or done some research -- he'd have known it was HL singing.
Now, let's see if he runs a correction/retraction/apology in print.

Yep, I got one too. Good for him. In the note he sent me he admitted that I completely missed the boat on that one, partly because I trusted the album credits rather than my ears. I shall not let that happen again

I've read through the entire thread, can someone tell me the story behind RSL's "homina homina" quote which gives us the title of this thread?
radiosweetheart- 10-20-2007
Don't have the article to link to but in an interview RSL was talking about HL and he said something along the lines of: "I'm not gay but when Hugh Laurie is sitting across the dinner table, talking to you with that British accent-homina, homina, homina"
I'm sure someone has the article and/or exact quote.

Chicago Tribune May 1, 2006
“It’s hard when you're in a play, doing the same lines, the same way for eight months. Hugh learns 72 new lines a day and has to put an American accent on them. It really is an actor’s nightmare. I’ve done Brian Friel plays, Martin Sherman plays, Tom Stoppard plays, and maybe five months into it you have a night where you kind of feel okay and kind of forget the accent and let go and let the scene happen. To have a strange accent in your mouth while playing a role, and then be judged for it, that’s hard stuff.
“And can I tell you, when you have dinner with Hugh Laurie … I miss that voice.”
Yeah. He called me once directly for an interview. I was expecting the publicist to put him through, but it was just that voice on the phone. I was sort of thrown for a minute.
“As we know, I’m straight, but yeah, it’s like, homina homina homina.”

Adorable.

weird little coincidence How strange is this? Hugh and Damian Lewis have more in common than just a bit of a resemblance.
However, Damian does have a few curious links with the British star.
"Weirdly I bought Hugh Laurie's old house in London - I'm not making that up," he grinned. "I stalk Hugh Laurie. I rang him up and said 'what is it like being in a hit TV show? Should I take the job? And by the way, I'm calling from your bedroom." http://www.metro.co.uk/fame/article.html?in_article_id=71845&in_page_id=7&in_a_source=

Damian's been stalking him for a long time, too. I believe he also went to Eton. And plays guitar/piano. Creepy, Damian, creepy. I wonder if Hugh has noticed any missing pets....
DrSpaceman- 10-20-2007
Oh yeah, more of that please. It makes my fandom heart all a-glow to think of Damian Lewis and Hugh Laurie talking to each other, as Damian was my first "can't believe he's British" crush. In fact, when I first learned of HL's background after seeing House, I thought, "Just like Damian Lewis!" i.e. both British actors giving brilliant dramatic performances on American TV (though of course Lewis was a dramatic stage actor in Britain, alumn of the Royal Shakespeare Company, not comedian).
If you haven't seen Band of Brothers, please do. Damian Lewis is astonishing in it, one of the best TV performances I've ever seen. Like HL he was also robbed of an Emmy that year.

OMG, all this creepy stuff is turning me on! Damien, Hugh, same house . . . wowzers.
Cheers- 10-21-2007
So, I was about to complain bitterly about the article in the Ottawa Sun by Wigney asserting the HL can't sing only to find that I'm a day late and a dollar short. I arrive here only to find you've all already found the article and responded as I did.
My faith in fandom has been restored. :!:

I was perusing that other site and read this bit of information:
Ran Laurie chaired the Oxford branch of Save the Children from 1986 to 1989.
