Re: Pix of Hugh
I'm completely in love with the fact that he wears a helmet. No bogus macho bullsh*t! Hmmmm? Aside from the fact that Hugh isn't an idiot, why wouldn't he wear a helmet? It's not just a good idea, it's the law.

Hmmmm? Aside from the fact that Hugh isn't an idiot, why wouldn't he wear a helmet? It's not just a good idea, it's the law. You would be surprised. I worked in trauma too many years. No matter what the law is there seems to be a thing with some bikers who simply refuse to wear helmets or they wear 'shell' or 'skull cap' helmets (that cover a very small portion of their skull). When medical people see these folk riding we call them 'donor cycles' as in organ donors. Morbid, I know. But I can't count how many men I've seen who have a motorcycle accident with relatively minor injuries (a broken arm or leg and some road rash) and a major head injury from lack of helmet (or adequate helmet). Anytime I see someone riding a motorcycle with a real helmet it warms my heart.

Thanks so much for posting the link to nice, new pap pics. I love candid pics of him. They're kind of few and far between. I love the ones where he's in the video store. (from a long time ago).

Re: Pix of Hugh
Anytime I see someone riding a motorcycle with a real helmet it warms my heart. Very much word. Hugh should do some Ad Council spots for helmets. "Think wearing a helmet won't make you look sexy and badass? *straps on proper helmet* *close up of Teh Blue Steel* Really. *HL smirk* Cranial integrity: For looking hot and badass on the bike and off it. *takes of helmet* *"tosses hair"* :P Some very weird part of me wishes that the clinic patient in 97 seconds had tried to off himself with a Tickle Me Elmo instead of a switchblade. Hear me out! It's easy to look all deep and intense flicking a switchblade in the dark. I think Hugh could pull off just as much intensity with a small furry red character from a beloved American public television show that vibrates and has an eerie high pitched laugh; he's that good. And the Fox promos/fanvids for the ep would've been so hilarious. And afterwards House could add a singed and half-melted Tickle Me Elmo to his Desk & Juggling Set of action figures. It would further justify the scariness of the "Viewer Discretion is Advised" voiceover guy. And House's "Burn Victim Elmo" could snark with Wilson's Cancer Bears. Mmm. I might've been watching too many hithah H/W as Bert/Ernie vids though. :D Saturday morning, I greet thee with wut?

Some states don't have helmet laws. Scary thought, I know, but true. One of them is New Hampshire. The state motto? Live free or die. I want someone to come up with a bumper sticker that says: NH: No helmets? Live free and die! (I always wear a full helmet, as does Motorcycle Man, my other half.)

I've noticed that HL's helmet doesn't have a full face shield, unlike the one that House wears. How can people ride around on bikes without that shield? Don't they wind up with a face full of bugs, not to mention the occasional rocks thrown up off the road which I suspect can do a lot of damage. They sure can damage a windshield.

This note appears on the "Chariots of Fire"/Eton photo in Entertainment Weekly's photo issue: Though much of Chariots takes place at Cambridge University, none of it was filmed there. "They wouldn't allow us," says Hugh Hudson, director of the 1981 Best Picture winner. ... Hudson's alma mater Eton College, however, welcomed the production. And one beautiful morning in the School Yard, they shot the scene where Nigel Havers and Ben Cross race around the periphery. Kenneth Branagh, Stephen Fry, and Hugh Laurie were among the hundreds of extra. "They were all students who were interested in the arts," says Hudson. "So they came along. It was their first Oscar-winning-movie appearance." OK, who is going to spend the rest of the day searching the background of that scene for Hugh & Stephen? :)

World's longest movie about world's shortest race.

It's available to watch instantly on Netflix. We could have a viewing party.

Aargh!!! Now I must go rent Chariots of Fire. I am in no other way OCD, but this! Must. See. Hugh. Now. I feel like a dalek: resistance is futile...

DOB1234- 10-13-2007

Chariots is listed in the IMDB filmography of Stephen and Kenneth, but not Hugh's. ETA: In the IMDB entry for Chariots they list Stephen and Kenneth, not Hugh.

Silja- 10-13-2007

FWIW, I remember hearing a story to that effect - from someone who was an extra - so I'm fairly sure it's true. I haven't the foggiest if any of them can be spotted though. I'd imagine Stephen Fry would stick out a bit because he's so tall.

marykir- 10-13-2007

Well, there's no guarantee any of the 3 are visible in the scene. But at least the bit in the courtyard isn't very long... Hugh rerun alerts: Monday 10/15, 10a eastern - Bravo is rerunning ITAS. This sounds like an excellent excuse to check out BravoHD. Tuesday 10/23 - Tonight Show listing says it will be a rerun of Hugh's appearance.

DOB1234- 10-13-2007

Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is (1) to rent/buy this movie, (2) to spend as many bleary eyed hours as necessary to spot Hugh, and (3) to inform all herein as to where and when he can be seen. For extra points, update IMDB to include Hugh's appearance. Anyone? Anyone?

Poeia- 10-13-2007

Chariots of Fire was released in 1981 which means it was filmed that year or the year before. Hugh and Stephen graduated from university in 1980 or 1981. So he wasn't hanging out at Eton at that time. Stephen didn't go to Eton. I don't believe Kenneth Branagh went to university at all. But it makes a nice story.
