I don't think this got posted here... BBC Radio 7 is playing Hugh's reading of Three Men on the Bummel this week, M-F. The first part is up on the BBC Radio Player. Or starting Tuesday, you'll be able to access it through BBC 7 Listen Again. It looks like this is the first time the BBC has rerun this since 2002, so grab it while you have the chance!

okay back OT: HL has a 5 year contract. Seeing as we're in year 4 I'm starting to get nervous... what's the likelyhood of the show/HL going longer than 5 years. I mean, his kids are basically grown up now (or if I remember my teen years at least they think they are) why doesn't he ship his wife over and do house for as long as humanly possible? Oh, well, one of his kids is 18, the other two are only 16 and 15. I'd love to see HL play Dr. House forever, but I understand why he might be unwilling to re-locate his children at this point, as it can be real hard on the kids, especially as they get close to finishing high school. Perhaps if all three were in college, it would be easier for the family to re-locate. I give HL a lot of credit for his dedication. It's got to be tough to be so far away from your loved ones!

so, would it be completely against the rules or even pointless to start a stephen fry thread in an OT area for things that can only barely be connected to hugh? until that is answered, though, i'll just put this here: i picked up the bones season two dvds at lunch and there are a couple of fry moments in the extras. there's a quick clip of him in the gag reel (i would have paid big money to see any and all outtakes of him and boreanaz in their first episode together) and then there's a little love note-like bit on him in their featurette on the high points of the season. boreanaz says that second to any scene with emily, the scenes with stephen were his favorite to do this year. stephen brought out good things in him and his character. hart hanson called stephen either the smartest man in the world or a very close second. michaela said that she was lucky to have gotten to do a scene with him and hopes that he gets to come back for future episodes. obviously there was a lot more to it than just that, but i was watching while quickly trying to eat lunch and get back to work. i went through the other extras quickly and didn't see any other stephen related goodness. there were deleted scenes from his episodes, but none with him unless i zipped by too quickly.

Hi guys....thanks. Anyway. I wonder if Stephen ever gets weary of people referring to him as the smartest man on the planet. Or having folks trot out that really old quote of him having a brain the size of Kent that you still read from time to time. (I suspect his brain capacity is, in fact, much higher than everyone in Kent combined, anyway.) I wish people would talk up his other feats as well. It's only the most daring publishers that mention his recording for saying "fuck" on live television the most times in a single setting. For instance. That makes me want to get the Bones DVDs. And I'm glad you posted it here because apparently posting about even Hugh in the HL thread is dangerously off-topic on other forums.

Hi guys....thanks. now, that's just mean. I wonder if Stephen ever gets weary of people referring to him as the smartest man on the planet. Or having folks trot out that really old quote of him having a brain the size of Kent that you still read from time to time. (I suspect his brain capacity is, in fact, much higher than everyone in Kent combined, anyway.) maybe he's so smart that he doesn't even care. that's just how he rolls. but, yeah...it's probably like, "um...i'm also quite handsome! please mention that on occasion?". in context, i think his being smart was relevant to the his being cast, but it's kind of a jumble. you can tell that they said a lot, but given that it's a wrap up of the whole season they only focused about a minute on that little arc. they mentioned that they wanted somenone big in size and personality so that booth would have to literally look up to him as well as be a little overwhelmed by him. mission accomplished on that one. given that he went all fan boy on one of the chat shows around that time, i think it might be true of boreanaz as well. I wish people would talk up his other feats as well. It's only the most daring publishers that mention his recording for saying "fuck" on live television the most times in a single setting. For instance. i firmly believe that i could beat that should i ever get the opportunity to be on live television. That makes me want to get the Bones DVDs. And I'm glad you posted it here because apparently posting about even Hugh in the HL thread is dangerously off-topic on other forums. yeah, i'm done with that nonsense. i cleaned out my PMs (because i wanted to save them should i be banned) and composed a lengthy post about just how david shore talking about hugh laurie being on the show for four more years fell into the category of "david shore talking about hugh laurie" but even though i was perfectly willing to be banned i didn't have the energy to *not* be banned for that. my patience for explaining why something about hugh laurie is on topic for a thread about hugh laurie is nonexistent so i'm pretty sure that this is the only place i'll be posting from this point forward.

Hi! This is just your friendly neighborhood mod saying feel free to discuss Stephen Fry as your hearts desire. There's really no such thing as too much Stephen. And he is family (of Hugh, not us unfortunately).

radiosweetheart- 09-11-2007

i'm pretty sure that this is the only place i'll be posting from this point forward. We here at House's House of Whining look forward to being your one stop shop for all of your House discussion needs. Should you need assistance please pick up a red courtesy phone located conveniently throughout the store and someone will be along shortly to assist you. As far as a Stephen Fry thread goes-as long as someone occasionally mentions Hugh Laurie ("I hear he's a friend of Stephen Fry's...") I don't think we need for a separate thread right now. That could change depending on what his Fry-ness decides to do in the next few months. If he's more interesting than Hugh we might make this a Stephen Fry discussion board and lose all interest in House. Or-what Sauty said.

We here at House's House of Whining look forward to being your one stop shop for all of your House discussion needs. i appreciate that even though i am clearly a liar. let's just say that i'm going to do the slower detox until this is the only place i post. that works for me. or something like that. As far as a Stephen Fry thread goes-as long as someone occasionally mentions Hugh Laurie ("I hear he's a friend of Stephen Fry's...") I don't think we need for a separate thread right now. That could change depending on what his Fry-ness decides to do in the next few months. that's fine by me. i just didn't want to go completely OT and have everyone silently scowl at me whenever i'm not looking. or, rather, silently scowl at me for *that* reason whenever i'm not looking.

I wonder if Stephen ever gets weary of people referring to him as the smartest man on the planet. Is he not? I'm really considering buying the Bones DVD just for him now. Anyway, in Sociology today we had to watch a video about rudeness in America and their was a segment on rude bosses, where do you think my mind instantly went?

DIY Sheep- 09-12-2007

I know it must annoy them, but I find Fry and Laurie inexorably linked. That's because I first saw them in 'A Bit'. I love the fact that although they are great friends and I don't think there is any animosity because they have different strengths and weaknesses, ie Hugh hates chat shows, but Stephen became a big pundit in Britain, they do have a bit of friendly brother like rivalry going. Stephen writes a book - Hugh writes a book. Hugh goes to America - Stephen goes to America. Stephen is bi-polar, Hugh has depression. Let's hope neither one of them decides to jump off a cliff. ... Thanks for the link Marykir. We are getting three English comedians doing Three Men in a Boat here and the sequel is hilarious. Also - on that site is Stephen Fry's original radio version of Absolute Power for Stephen fans.

Captanne- 09-12-2007

If I see one more sequel or remake I will scream. I did watch "Flight of the Phoenix" because, well. Ob. The golfing scene was worth every damned second of my life that I lost watching the rest of that dreck. (Even Jimmy Stewart....brief digression for homage....knew it was dreck in the original version.) But, to the point, can't anyone (Hollywood, Bollywood, France?) come up with something unique? I'm just asking. I don't want to even mention Saw 3. God knows I can't be that original. But there are plenty of people out there who are far better than I.

Namaste- 09-12-2007

Captanne, I couldn't believe all the ads and such for "Flight of the Phoenix" which kept referring to a "twist you won't believe." Ummm. It's a remake. The twist has been known since the 1960s. I saw the Jimmy Stewart version in the '80s. But it was worth it for one thing ... imagine what would have happened if Hugh hadn't been suffering in Namibia and looking scruffy and created that tape in the hotel room bathroom. I recall the article he wrote for TV Guide in which he said one of the most appealing aspects of the script pages he saw was that it was nowhere near the desert. Would he have been as intrigued by the character if he were sitting comfortably at home? Even if he was, would we have a House with the same "look?"

Captanne- 09-12-2007

Dennis Quaid is great but I'm not sure he's "action hero" material. The sex scene in "The Big Easy" way champions that stupid "I'll have what she's having" scene in "When Harry Met Sally" which was just purely offensive. God, people, have some sex in the privacy of your bedroom or kitchen or dining room just not in a PUBLIC RESTAURANT. Figure it out. Also, "Flight of the Phoenix" sucked in 19umph. It also sucked like a Hoover in the remake. But could you die for Laurie's audition? In the bathroom?! (Which you mentioned.) He was scruffy and fabulous. And also using his impecible Merrycan accent. (Did I spell impecible correctly? This darned laptop has only dialup so I don't have the patience for spell check. Computer Geek is on his way to fix the DSL as I type.)

DIY Sheep- 09-12-2007

Thank the Lordie Be for Flight of the Pheonix and it's crazy director. Although I agree with captanne, that movie is worth buying for the DVD extras. The cast all hated each other and the director and basically everything about the film - and it shows. I have never seen anyone look more depressed that Hugh Laurie in that bathroom. It's up on Youtube somewhere if you want to see it without having to endure Flight of the Phoenix.

iamdaffodils- 09-12-2007

Hugh's audition is on the extras of the S1 House DVD's too. Thank the Lordie Be for Flight of the Pheonix and it's crazy director. Amen Sheep! If not for that craptacular film, Patrick Dempsey could be playing House. No, on second thought, kinda doubt that. Anyway, I know the cast all hated the director, and he hated them, and they hated Namibia, but I didn't know the cast hated each other - tell, tell! I know a couple of them helped Hugh do the audition tape - the giddy pot head cop from Euphoria (can't remember his name, too lazy to Google) was one of them.
