The article about David Shore, that extra-cat linked to in the media thread, mentions this little smile worthy fact:
... He’s sporting topnotch Nike sneakers – a Dr. House trademark and Laurie’s gift to the staff during the third season’s wrap. ...
A man after my taste!

Given that Hugh said they smell of newly mown grass, I hope the crew got sneakers...

I believe the crew and the extras received them because there were a couple of pairs being sold on eBay a few months ago by sellers who said they were either crew members or extras. They were really nice and had the House logo on the back of each shoe. There was also a Swiss Army watch with the House logo and the seller said it had been a gift from Hugh to the crew and extras.

I wonder if he'd be bothered by people selling his gifts on ebay.

Granted, this is clearly a job for assistants, but I'm having the most hysterical visual of Hugh sneaking around trying to get everyone's shoe size without giving away the secret of his wrap gift.
On another note, I'm wondering if the crew is predominantly male because these gifts are skewing in a fairly male way. Not that women don't wear sneakers (obviously) or Swiss Army watches, but neither are my first choice for a gift, and I'm about as tomboy as they come. Regardless, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be rushing to eBay to unload a gift from Hugh.

I wondered about that too...one of the sellers said he was a crew member and that when he was asked his shoe size before they were ordered, it had been years since he had worn sneakers and when they came in the shoes were one size too small for him so he couldn't use them. The other said he was an extra and was having financial problems and that's why he was selling the shoes and the watch.
If you're in a bad financial situation I know you have to do things that are hard...but if Hugh gave them to me, no matter how bad things were, I just don't think I could part with them...and if the shoes were too small, I'd have them framed or something! I would have loved to have gotten the watch and was going to bid on it, but he did a Buy It Now option for like $300 or something, and it had been listed for barely an hour when someone snapped it up.
eta - Yeah Bailey, I can see Hugh asking everyone their shoe size!!!

I got bothered for him for a second there...I get why some people might do that I guess...but I still think it's kinda sucky.

Oh I am so with you on that!! I can't see ever ever selling something like that. I guess selling it for financial reasons does kinda make sense if you absolutely had to...but damn it would kill me. I think it's cool that Hugh does a wrap gift! I never heard of that on TV shows...I only ever heard of it on movie shoots. It's probably common though and I just haven't heard it. In this case...is it probably only Hugh who gives a gift or all of the actors?

He may be stupid, but he's not clever.... he would probably create a scenario equating shoe size and a personality trait that he wanted to test. :D

Am I the only one picturing Kevin Kline's character in "The Big Chill" here?

Well, staff and crew do not get strike pay, so I suppose... Still, if I had such sneakers, I'd certainly want to hold onto them. Such that my first-born might start to feel insecure.
In HL's place, I'd probably be scoping out the offending ebay user names and shoe sizes. After the strike, all the size 10 folks might wonder why I was being so stand-offish.

Nope - first thing that came to mind! Especially Jeff Goldblum's reaction.

Well, not *now*...

As someone who has half a closet full of team rewards/conference swag from 8 years at Microsoft, I *completely* understand why someone would sell random stuff given to them on the job if they thought anyone would buy it :)

I'm with you on that one, markykir. Can I interest anyone in a baseball cap bearing the name of a car company? Be-logo'd pencil set, perhaps? Notebook? Oversized T-shirt? Commemorative pin? Jesus, if I weren't so lazy I could've made a fortune over the years selling this junk on eBay...
A few more of those Hugh in the Caribben pics just surfaced over at house_daily. Still no photos of Hugh's mysterious other children, though it does seem in one of the photos that although Charlie didn't inherit his father's facial features he did seem to have gotten Hugh's (original) teeth. Hmmm...what was that pointless anecdote I related the other day???
olivia720- 01-03-2008
I don't know if he needed to know peoples shoe sizes, he could have just bought a ton in various sizes.
I think its sweet he bothered to get them gifts.
I think we would treasure them till our dying day, but I guess they're prolly not that important to everyone. (I know, thanks Captain Obvious).
It sounds hard to come up with a gift that so many people would like. He came up with cute choices, imo.
