Having just read the "apology" on WatchingHouse, I found myself kind of blown away by this section:
I’ve been trying to think what House would think, and House would have no problem with all of the observations. He would, however, be extremely intrigued to discover who Vanessa was, so that he could decide if she was a bored housewife who had too much time on her hands or an obsessed fan stalking her favorite actor. And how would Hugh feel?
I don’t know.
Beyond the suggestion that this woman looks to her "WWHD" bracelet for guidance whenever confronted with a moral dilemma, it's amazing that she really wouldn't know how someone would feel to have a stranger monitoring the walking of his dog (in gumboots), the taking out of his recycling, the oddness of his hat rack.
The comment upthread is right: The sense of entitlement is amazing.

And yay again! Another HL early performace hits the DVD market: Peter's Friends just showed up in a google alert. I note that HL is the first photo reading from left to right. :-) So adorable!

I'm going to have to get a What Would House Do bracelet to go with my What Wouldn't Jesus Do t-shirt. I think they'd be a good match.

I'm grateful that, once this is all over with and we've forgotten that the Watching House website even exists, we'll always have the hat tree to look back fondly on.

Awesome news! I love the cover. Though I guess poor Alphonsia Emmanuel is doomed for obscurity since they left her off the cover. And no Immelda Staunton, either. She's got more of a career these days than Rita Rudner, I'd think, but I guess RR ranks for being co-writer.
Alas, I'm very happy for this DVD release as I truly don't understand what has taken them so long.
But it kind of makes me (selfishly!) sad that now the market is going to flooded with a product that was somewhat difficult to get ahold of that had been in my own library for 14 years. Bitter sweet selfishness!

YES! It's about time. :D

I'm torn. It's cool that it's finally coming out, but talk about bare bones. No extras, other than subtitles. I like my extras, dangit.

You'd think they could at least wrangle an audio commentary out of Kenneth Branagh. He did one years later for "Dead Again."
They could have even unearthed Rita Rudner and given her something to do. She doesn't appear to be that busy.

ETA: This is another interesting Youtube bit, Hugh and Stephen on James Randi's show in 1991. (Randi is an illusionist and well-know skeptic). An astrologer does a reading on Hugh, which doesn't turn out very well. Hugh doesn't talk very much but Stephen gets right in there and pretty much skewers the astrologer.
Just a little FYI about a lot of the Hugh clips on youtube: most of them came from marykir or the same source as marykir. If you visit her site you'll be able to get much better quality copies of these things to watch and save to watch again.
To which I would add that MaryKir's site says -- everywhere -- that the videos are not to be posted on YouTube. You'd be surprised how many people ignore that message and don't even bother to delete the notice from the end of the tape when they post to YouTube. If you see that, let MaryKir know.
ETA: I don't think this one is from MaryKir's site. If I recall correctly, her copy has less introductory discussion from the astrologer. (Plus hers has better sound.)

ETA: Rita Rudner is on the Region 1 version of Peter's Friends because she's the only American in the cast.

Yay for Peter's Friends! I've got an old VHS copy but I'll be happy to get the DVD. Oh, and when you look this up on Amazon you'll find that the stars of this movie are Richard Briers, Magdelena Buznea, Hetta Charnley, and Annie Davies. God, Amazon is so clueless sometimes.
marykir- 12-20-2007
Did Amazon perhaps pull the cast off an "order of appearance" credits? All of those people are in the film... for a few seconds :)
Nice that they aren't charging an arm & a leg for this, also I think the region 2 release (also without extras) was 4:3 and this is supposedly widescreen and 3 minutes longer.
I can't remember, what is the difference between the UK and US version?
re. the Randi clip - the clip on my site is edited down to a reasonable size. IIRC the clip on YouTube is the whole thing.

Okay, even if you are spoiler-phobic, go to the spoiler thread and check out the latest promo pics for "It's a Wonderful Lie" - there's one in particular that stands out for it's squee value.
Thanks misere for posting those.

Great now I have images of the Angel/Devil thing with Jesus on one shoulder and House on the other

I have had Peter's Friends on DVD for nearly a year. Am I missing something? Is this the Region 1 DVD?

I've never really understood why the UK version is shorter. I've never played them side by side to see what the differences are, but obviously it's nothing significant so why cut those three minutes? Weird.

Rita Rudner is sitting in her Vegas penthouse counting her money. She can't be bothered by silly little DVD commentaries.
But it kind of makes me (selfishly!) sad that now the market is going to flooded with a product that was somewhat difficult to get ahold of that had been in my own library for 14 years. Bitter sweet selfishness!
I'm often both thrilled (because I can upgrade) and bitter when something is finally released that I had to work my ass off to find back when tape trading was a big hobby of mine. There's obviously no point to it at all, but I like to wallow over the silly usenet negotiations that took forever to hash out for some little five minute clip of something and, twelve years later, it's all over youtube or some shit like that. Or bootlegs I traded around for that you can download anywhere. It's silly, frustrating and kind of awesome all that the same time.
ETA: (Plus hers has better sound.)
And that's really the main reason that I prefer to stay away from youtube unless it's the only source in town. The sound and picture quality is just so annoying. If there's a better alternative, I see no point in not going there.
I have had Peter's Friends on DVD for nearly a year. Am I missing something? Is this the Region 1 DVD?
Yes, this is the region 1 edition. It has never been released in that format, at least not officially. Region 2 has been around forever, though it's out of print at this time. Though that may no longer be the case if they're finally releasing it here.

Shouldn't House and the Devil actually be sharing a shoulder?
Devil: "Go ahead. Do it. You know you want to."
House: "Wait, don't do it yet." *gets popcorn, sits down to watch the mayhem* "OK, now do it."
