So I gave one of HL's Israeli family members a fridge the other day.
Perfectly ordinary words, never before put in that precise order. Thanks for the most random, non-sequitor thought of the day! :-)
With all due respect, you can't possibly know that. There were no such details in Katie's comments and we have no idea when they told HL vs. the newbies. Could have been five minutes before, could have been a month before.
I think the wording pretty much implies first we told Hugh, then we told the newbie. I seriously doubt that means there was an ungodly amount of time between the two events or that they told Hugh a month in advance. First of all, that's a pretty shitty thing to do to Hugh. Why would you expect the main talent to be the holder of bad news about a colleague for that length of time? And secondly, if you somehow did want Hugh to know that far in advance--so that it affects his acting performance?--wouldn't it then be obvious to the people acting around him? They'd be able to perceive that they were the next to go.
But I really do think that in her statements she gave off the impression that There are three executive producers actively running the show and that one of them is Hugh. And, again, I don't like that she told us that he knew, for example, Edi was going to be written out before Edi knew.
I get what you're saying here. But even if I'm not in a position to disagree with how they run their business, I think I'm more annoyed that she chose to make that fact public. I'm not sure it shows deference to Hugh so much as it displays the two executive producers as being a bit whipped.
Then again, I could be having an extreme over-reaction to most of the PR that's been done this season. I'm naseuated at all the public gnashing of teeth of how incredibly hard it was to cast this show, blah, blah, blah. Given that no one added to the cast is providing me with anything I was missing, I'm tired of hearing about it. I don't feel any amount of either sadness or joy for any of them.
In somewhat related news, has anyone else seen The TV Set? Very, very enjoyable and not just because it stars my boy David Duchovny It's about the process of creating a television pilot and the fun and hijinks that occur when the network gets overly involved in making the creative decisions. Sigourney Weaver plays a network executive schooling her new colleague (a transplant from the BBC played by Ioan Gruffudd) on how leading men are cast:
"We can't do this show with that other guy. You can't hang a series a fucking theater actor with bad hair and a beard."
Kind of reminded me of Hugh. :-)

You had me at Ioan Gruffudd. I'd be willing to watch him reading the phone book.

Yes! "Whipped". That's the impression that I took from it. One word summed up what I couldn't really say in...a lot more words.

This is in my queue. I was such a horrible movie goer this year, mainly because the movies I wanted to see were smaller and only played at one inconvenient theater in my area. I saw all the press that Duchovny did for it and with every interview I wanted to see it more. It didn't happen, though. I'm glad to hear that it's entertaining from someone other than just the critics.

If you ever get the chance to see any episodes of "Century City", do so. That's the series that Paul, Katie and David (along with many other familiar actors and crew members) did just prior to "House". It wasn't the greatest show (it was decent, but the premise bored me), but Ioan was fantastic.

I've seen exactly one episode of Century City – while jet lagged so perhaps I wasn't as receptive as I should have been. It was a bit like family reunion in the Lake District. It was mindthumpingly boring but the view was great.

I think that's the perfect way to describe it. Maybe there are people out there for whom the entire idea would have been a load of fun, but it wasn't me and it clearly wasn't the majority of Nielsen families. Good cast, decent execution, coma inducing concept.

Kal Penn's teaching gig was announced back in March., IIRC -- it was well before the opening came up on "House," and I assume he already had everything in place to commit to the semester. I seem to recall that most speculation when he was cast during the summer was that he wouldn't be a finalist because of that commitment.
Also in that interview, KJ noted that logisitically it was difficult to talk to the actor about to be fired, because once they called for the actor to come to their offices for a meeting, everyone on the set knew. They can meet with HL anytime without causing suspicion.
Well if Kal was announced in March then he probably was approached and agreed to teach even earlier than that. With many guest instructor assignments there is usually the proviso that it is possible that the instructor could change because this is not the person's actual career and scheduling conflicts arise. So just because people thought it was proof he wouldn't be staying on House it doesn't mean that he didn't know from the moment he was cast he was staying on the show and they announced at the school as late as possible in deference to him (whom I'm sure they would like to get back again when he is next available, now even more than before) for PR reasons.
This thing about calling the actors to their office would raise suspicion is also silly. It's not like their paged over a P.A. or someone comes to class and calls them to the principal's office. People are a little busy on a TV or film set (and they are not all there at the same time) for everyone to notice who is or isn't leaving the set on a break, during lunch, before or after the day's shoot and that suddenly being the "mark of death". These people have phones in their homes, in their trailers, they have cells, it's very easy to be discreet to meet with a member of your cast or even crew re anything without it garnering the attention of everyone else. Even the way KJ describes it makes it sound like a grown-up Parlour game and not professionals conducting business which is why I do not buy it. YMMV.
ETA,Here's David Shore's version of the same thing That's been their story and they're sticking to it. Which is absolutely fine.
At least saying five is closer to the truth (that number keeps shrinking).
Perhaps as I said further up thread they used the first 3 or 4 episodes to finalize #3 but if they were really trying to work it out as the went along then the final results, an almost identical mirroring the original ducklings make-up, is not only quite a coincidence but quite uninspired. Lucky it was the best known 3 made the final cut

It seems that the Hugh is not safe from cameras this week. I stumbled over two new pics of him here.
They seem harmless, so I'm not going to feel too guilty over posting the link. :innocent:
thanks so much for posting! I never saw those. And he's smiling at the camera! must've been a cute girl taking the pic and not a pap.
god he looks so handsome

Please take any further discussion of the Katie Jacobs interview to the Media Thread. We're getting a bit off-track here.
And please note that the new characters now have their own threads. We'll be putting up threads for the new actors shortly.

I didn’t think that was a happy smile. I think he looks mildly frustrated when he spots the photographer.
god he looks so handsome
Well yeah.

Dude, we're watching ABOFL in my lecture on how to write a position paper! I love my university!
Edit: Some guy just shrieked, "Oh my God, it's Dr. House!"
I've never watched this before. It's funny.

Thanks for that, bailey. I immediately envisioned Stephen sitting on the couch with Hugh...What a lovely thought. :D

I looked at it again, and yeah. Looks like a "I'm barely tolerating you" smile. But I'll take it.

I would be fully supportive of HL if he quoted Captain Kirk again (correctly) - "I have had enough of youuuu!"
