So, um, not meaning to brag or anything Which translates into "I am so totally bragging about this". {g} I want my copy of it. I'm not going to pretend that I don't or that I wasn't a little worried that my order would be bumped. But, I sort of forgot that there was actually a possiblity of it arriving today. Oops. Of course if it doesn't arrive tommorrow, now that it's on my mind, I'll probably be bummed. All for a movie that I've already got a copy of. But, the official release is *special*. And totally random off topic moment wrt Krav Maga: that now makes me think of Anne Dudek, ironically enough. The character she played on "How I Met Your Mother" studied Krav Maga and, iirc, eventually demonstrated it on Ted after he broke up with her for the second time on her birthday. Second breakup. Second birthday. He broke up with her twice and both times were on her *birthday*. He deserved so much worse. Weirdly, in spite of the fact that she was quite funny I didn't actually remember that it was her until she joined "House" and I looked to see all the bazillion things I've seen her in without remembering that any of them were her. All I remembered was that Ted has issues and he should have really looked up what "Krav Maga" was when his girlfriend told him that she was going to her class. Because before you break up with someone on their birthday for a second time you should make sure they can't kill you with their pinky.

I want my AONAA too! It's silly that people who preordered on the same date have wildly varying ship dates. GRRR to Amazon. Mine's still saying ship date of 12/3.

I reuploaded one of the ones where he's laughing: here it is. It's pretty awful quality though it's huge - it took ages to upload it! Thanks so much for posting! I heart you! So rare to see a huge smiling candid like this. Sexy creature he is.

He doesn't like the idea of martial arts. When did he say that? I wonder why he's okay with boxing but not martial arts. Martial arts isn't necessarily more brutal. There are some very light martial arts out there that are basically dance or yoga. No chance of getting hit in the face as with boxing. On the other hand, some martial arts are pretty brutal. So much for my dream that we'll spar together one day! I have no interest in boxing and apparently Hugh doesn't like martial arts :( (Never mind the total improbability of that happening anyway - it was just a fantasy of mine.) He looks good all sweaty like that - yum. He eschews "eastern" stuff and wants to embrace "western" stuff which he thinks is overlooked. The driving off pics don't work for me :(

Since everyone else is posting their AONAA statuses, I might as well add mine ... I just got an email from Amazon that said there is a delay with my order and that the new expected arrival date is 12/5 - 12/12. I had pre-ordered it on 11/5 with normal shipping. As someone else suggested, it must be a regional thing ... that's the only reason I can think of for why some people have gotten it already and some haven't, regardless of when they ordered it. One thing I've noticed about Amazon, though, is that almost every time they send me one of those "your order is delayed" emails, I get another email the very next day that says my order has now shipped. So it usually doesn't turn out to be as long of a delay as they expect. I kinda hope they don't ship it until the end of the week or so, because I'm broke right now and don't want another charge to post to my account until payday!

My goodness, that was quite a boatload of pix of HL from this weekend. I was wondering if it was a paparazzo or just some guy who saw a chance to make a buck, but I guess it was a pap, since the outdoors/car pix were much better quality and apparently not taken with a phone. It does seem pretty scuzzy of someone to invade his privacy in the gym. Does anybody know what they pay these guys for pictures of celebs? I find it hard to believe that it pays enough for a mob of guys to make their living cruising around Hollywood snapping candid shots of stars, but I guess I’m wrong.

It does seem pretty scuzzy of someone to invade his privacy in the gym. I don't think, assuming that that's what you were implying, that the pictures of the gym were taken with a phone. Since most gyms (even the gyms where it's pretty liberal to even refer to them as a "gym") frown upon pictures of any kind, I get the impression that those were taken from quite a distance, much further than even the nicest cell phone camera would let you shoot and still be able to make out the subject of the pic. The grainy look seems more like it was zoomed in a bit too far using a nice but not *too* nice camera sans flash. Low light settings are good until you zoom too far and then pictures turn out a bit like the ones of Hugh. Since the ones outside were no doubt taken by the same guy, I'm guessing that he was where he wasn't supposed to be and wasn't just another dude at the gym who thought "hey, I'll grab some pics on my phone and sell them to splash!". Does anybody know what they pay these guys for pictures of celebs? I find it hard to believe that it pays enough for a mob of guys to make their living cruising around Hollywood snapping candid shots of stars, but I guess I’m wrong. You can definitely make a living just taking pictures of your average Hugh Lauries or Kate Walshes or Jennifer Love Hewitts, but the goal is to be the guy that gets that one big picture to retire on. You see Hugh Laurie crossing the street or out on his bike and of course you start snapping, but you're out because you think you're gonna see Lindsay shooting up behind the Del Taco and make your fortune.

So this would probably be a bad time to chime in and mention how much I enjoyed watching this on DVD last night? (Well, I watched about 45 min. worth.) So much better than the crappy download quality. (But endless thanks to whoever it was that posted it to begin with. And I'm pretty sure I snagged it off the hughlauriefaq site, so thanks Peggy06 for that!) Reeeeeaaaalllly sorry to be rubbing it in. Honestly, I don't think it's necessarily a regional thing. I think it's an inventory thing. I ordered two discs at the same time (so I'd spend enough to get free shipping). Chinatown shipped from Nevada while AONAA shipped from Kentucky. I don't live anywhere near Kentucky. But I did put AONAA in my shopping cart the moment it became available, so I think it really was just a first come/first serve thing. Can I just say without antagonizing everyone on the board that I simply love the scene of Leo hosting the lawn party at the beginning? The way he just lopes from person to person, so graceful in his movements. Le sigh.

sugarplum_pdx- 11-28-2007

Heh, bailey, I don't mind you rubbing it in (although some people might!). I'm glad you are really enjoying it and it just makes me look forward to it even more. I'm still hoping that the whole "delay" thing will turn out to be a false alarm like it often is...

The way he just lopes from person to person, so graceful in his movements. Le sigh. This is a totally random scene to love, but I love the part where he's in the restarant with the woman from the track. It's all so desperate and weird and the idea that he could have possibly thought he'd get away with anything is just amazing. It's fascinating watching a guy just spiral like that. So much better than the crappy download quality. I finally got a decent copy of it a couple of years ago. Prior to that, the only copy that I had ever seen was recorded from a tape with bad tracking. *My* tape didn't have bad tracking, it was actually a dub of another tape with bad tracking. It's a wonder that I didn't find myself passed out on the floor when I attempted to watch it...like those Japanese kids watching Pokemon. Reeeeeaaaalllly sorry to be rubbing it in. I just really don't think you are.

The list of unreleased stuff with Hugh (not counting talk shows & charity events) is getting pretty short. Assuming the Fortysomething release is for real and Network DVD eventually releases more of Saturday Live and Friday Night Live, the biggies left would seem to be: <*>Alfresco & There's Nothing to Worry About <*>A Pin for the Butterfly <*>Letters from a Bomber Pilot <*>The Place of Lions <*>Dragans of New York (TV pilot) <*>Unspeakable Verse (video) <*>Weekend in Wallop - more for the entire cast than just F&L Then there's a bunch of stuff with Hugh in one or two episodes of a series: <*>Morris Minor's Marvellous Motors <*>Up Line <*>Murder Most Horrid <*>Lenny Henry Show (2004) <*>Les Girls Plus documentary type things like South of Watford or nature programs, which are probably historical curiosities at this point due to modern technical standards. Most of the animated series with voice work by Hugh have at least one VHS or DVD even if the entire series haven't been released. So what do we push BFS to release next?

bailey- 11-28-2007

So what do we push BFS to release next? I'd be pretty keen on seeing the entirety of the Dragans of NY pilot. (Even if I can't envision it being an actual DVD release. Maybe it could be an iTunes special or something in the Bravo "Brilliant but Cancelled" series.) And I wouldn't mind seeing The Place of Lions if only to understand what's so great about that infamous director. :-)

amysusanne- 11-28-2007

Lenny Henry Show (2004) I'm a little puzzled that that hasn't come out already anyway. It seems like it would have, at the very least, gotten a quickie cheap release with no frills. I know there are costs that don't exist with normal television releases and I know that there are certainly legal obstacles in some places, but I've always wondered why US studios didn't cash in on some unaired pilots and try to get them out there for public consumption. Obviously I would selfishly put Dragans at the top of my wish list, but there are so many big money pilots with big stars that could probably make some decent cash on DVD. Kiefer did the "LA Confidential" pilot and Edie Falco did the "Fargo" pilot and there are certainly shows that produced mutliple episodes and never saw the light of day like the show with Jason Bateman and Greg Grunberg whose name totally escapes me at the moment. And, of course, there's David Shore and Peter Blake's pilot with Famke Jansen last year. A studio could package these things with two or three compatible pilots together and probably make a killing. There is just so much out there that has a big potential to make money, I don't see why it's not at least being explored. I'd be pretty keen on seeing the entirety of the Dragans of NY pilot. (Even if I can't envision it being an actual DVD release. Maybe it could be an iTunes special or something in the Bravo "Brilliant but Cancelled" series.) I wish Trio was still around. I know Bravo ate it and pretended to carry it on a bit, but the original Trio with it's unaired pilot series was fantastic. If it had lasted a little while longer, until Hugh reached a higher level of fame here, they might have gotten around to that one. I saw Dragans about a year ago (with friends who I sat there making snarky comments with, so I probably need to see it again without the distractions) and I liked it. It was very by the book, very "pilotty", but I thought there was decent chemistry and good characters. Plus, aside from Hugh and Liz, Tammy Blanchard and Richard Kind were both there and were both quite entertaining. They could have made a decent series out of it.

In a more interactive world, it seems like the decision making on what pilots get picked up and what don't could be left up to the fans. Almost like an online stock market where the reaction of the fans drives up the value of the show. It would be curious to see exactly what kind of shows would get picked up and what wouldn't.

Oh God, bailey, I so want to love this idea; it's such an elegant theory. I worry though, considering the kind of tripe that's popular on American TV (who are those Nielsen families!?) that it might result in an avalanche of claptrap. I guess I take the Thomas Jefferson view - I believe in democracy, but I'm appalled at what people do with it. We'd never get anything like Foyle's War to be viewer's pick here. Oof, speaking of homina homina, Michael Kitchen is another Brit who could slide his slippers under my bed anytime. The voice alone is to worship. What the hell do they feed their balding, middle-aged men over there?
