Edwin Carp must be a character Richard Haydn created. He wrote that piece HL narrated and he played the character on one of my two favorite episodes of The Return of Edwin Carp. Sorry those of you outside the US can't see Hulu. Hugh captured it perfectly.

Wish I could watch Hulu... Here's some more info on "The Journal of Edwin Carp". "Getting Hugh Laurie to do the voice was another milestone that brought the production to another level," says Bazley. "It is interesting that the author, Richard Haydn, was also an actor and had done performances on the radio and television as his creation, Edwin Carp. I knew his voice from Alice in Wonderland, where he did the voice in a typical uppercrust tone. However, in his rendition of Edwin Carp he gives it a little 'Northern twang,' that is an accent from the North of England. It works well, however I wanted Hugh Laurie not to copy this but to do what he does best and give his interpretation; otherwise it would just be an imitation and not so strong. You hire a particular actor for what they can bring to a part and Hugh Laurie did it beautifully."

Incredible find, Zumi! Hugh sounds so very stuffy British - love it! I had given up hope of seeing this animated short - thank you! and I just finished the Dick Van Dyke episode (Return of Edwin Carp) - how I miss that show. and sad to say I actually remember that wonderful episode - never would have made the link to Hugh Laurie, though! I imagine Hugh watched the episode a few dozen times or more to nail the character......Absolutely great!

Two more little tidbits about Hugh from the press. The first is an interview iwth Amber Tamblyn, the second is an interview with BFTV members. Were you intimidated to be acting opposite Hugh Laurie? No, that was the fun part. He’s just really great to be playful in a scene with and that’s the great art of an actor like him who is not afraid to go out of the box and is unpredictable in what they are going to do next. ...By the way, that is another reason why I am just completely blown away by Hugh because this is his seventh year doing this and he’s just still so excited about being on set. He gets exhausted, but it is not a tiredness that is final or forever. He bounces back and loves his work and that is what is really charming about him. Grunberg says, “Hugh Laurie, who is the star of the most watched television show in the world, is more than happy to do whatever he can to promote the band.” He adds, “Everyone in the group considers themselves equals and all the charities get an equal cut of the proceeds.” As an example of the band members' level of comeraderie, Laurie was instrumental in providing Guiney with a song to help the band's singer over a rough patch. Guiney revealed that Laurie came to him with Keb Mo's ballad "Don't Try To Explain", thinking it might offer Guiney some comfort to sing it. "He took time out of his crazy schedule to think of me and bring me that song," Guiney says. "I couldn't believe he did that." I ask if Laurie will be premiering any songs from his forthcoming blues record at future Band From TV shows. “That’s up to Hugh,” Grunberg says, “and his record company.” Source: http://www.seattlepi.com/pop/430861_149201-blogcritics.org.html

The "animation" link sounds almost like Fry & Laurie Vox Pops. Quite a collection - love to know all the sources for the narrative/documentation bits (can guess some).

Chipmunk_love- 12-02-2010

I love how if you look him up under "Male Artists," his description is not made up of adjectives like "smooth," "humorous" or "recognizable," but simply "A National Treasure."

I want to see video of him singing while clinging on an ice cube tray. Thanks for finding this zumi.

love to know all the sources for the narrative/documentation bits (can guess some). - 00:00 Wallace & Gromit Go Chicken - 01:13 one of John Cleese's VideoArts customer server programs, probably "Demanding Customers: Customer Care Made Perfect" - 02:50 I thought I had the name of this program about mongoose, but I can't find it at the moment. Or maybe I'm confusing it with another nature documentary I never tracked down. That was meerkats or mongeese. Wow, isn't that a lot of help? :) The animation one sounds like it is all made up to showcase Hugh, not from any particular project. I think I have most of the adverts. Except a couple at the end. If anyone recognizes what companies those are for, I can check a couple online sources for it. ETA: Well, I can't find anything related to the documentary I was sure I had noted at one time. Maybe I'm imagining having heard about it before...

Wonderful. Thank you!!

I don't know where I read this but it was a few day's ago, and I am wondering if it is true. Someone mentioned "Oranges" wasn't going to be shown at the Sundance Film Festival. Any idea if this is true?

Poeia- 12-03-2010

Looks like it's true. Here's the list of films selected for the competition. Here are the films that will be screened but are not in the competition.

Looks like it's true. Here's the list of films selected for the competition. Here are the films that will be screened but are not in the competition. Thanks for confirming it, Poeia. Wouldn't that be the perfect place to show an Indie film? Maybe they are still editing it.

Did anybody hear about Hugh in "The Fly"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Laurie#Filmography (see 2011) Or is it just a joke?
