I have several audio books read by Hugh. I think that my favorite is Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow though it may have something to do with the fact that I'm a Jerome K. Jerome fan as well and so the combination of Hugh reading JKJ is like Heaven! It is excerpts from the book but still hilarious! It is packaged with Stephen Fry reading Daudet. I also love Hugh reading Three Men in a Boat (another Jerome K. Jerome book) and Portuguese Irregular Verbs.

hey hughsblues - the only one I've had was Three Men in a Boat and it was very funny and entertaining. Hugh's voice is so expressive and he does a great job...but like you, I'm just not an audiobook person. I have a short commute and if I'm in the car I have to listen to music. It would have taken me a year to finish listening to it in my car, so I gave up, brought it in the house and finally finished it. I wound up selling it on eBay because I knew I probably wouldn't listen to it again. Besides, being the extremely shallow person I am, as much as I adore listening to Hugh's voice, I really need to see him as well. Now if there was a DVD of him reading the audiobooks - count me in. Three that Hugh has done that I've heard are very good/funny are At The Villa of Reduced Circumstances, Portugese Irregular Verbs and The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs. I think it's a trilogy.

I don't get Gallagher either :) Last night my friends and I were drunk and confessed that last month they went to go see Gallagher at this shitty theatre in the sticks outside New York City and it the tickets were 75 BUCKS!!!. They were going with a birthday party so the person organizing it got the tickets and they for sure it woudl be no more than $35, imagine their surprise!! hahaha, they are total suckers.

hughsblues- 11-25-2007

I seriously have to google Gallagher. I have no idea what anybody's talking about! Thanks for the recommendations Boudleaux and iamdaffodils! I went to marykir's site cause...well obviously! The organization and the excerpts are really helpful...so that coupled with your words of wisdom should help me make a decision soon. At least I better make it soon cause I never know what the deal is with amazon...not that I'm bitter.

In the continuing saga of shipments from Amazon, I just received an e-mail from them saying they've shipped my copy of AONAA. I ordered on the 4th of November. *shrug* I don't get their shipment schedule either.

Cute, sassy Hugh with remote control and glasses. Nice way to cap off a sunday.

peggy06- 11-25-2007

I just got this Google alert with a pic of Hugh I hadn't seen (HL at the LA gym where he's been boxing to stay trim). I posted in the Media thread but then thought it probably belongs here instead. Daily Mail

I'm convinced that they sit on pre-orders that are using free shipping until the absolute last possible day. Select Super Saver Shipping as your shipping speed. Please note that your order may take an additional 3 to 5 business days to ship out from our fulfillment center. Transit time for Super Saver Shipping orders is 5 to 9 business days after shipping. When I ordered Season 2 it shipped a couple of days before the release date and arrived on the date. Season 3, which I pre-ordered the day they listed it, shipped a full 5 days after the release date and they found a delivery method that took almost a week to arrive. Considering that I live in Manhattan, it's actually hard to find a way to get it here that slowly. But the fact that I pre-ordered it so far in advance told they that I really, really wanted it and this way they're trying to get me to pay for shipping next time. I ordered 2 lamps on a Monday recently. They shipped on Tuesday and were supposed to arrive the following Monday or later. They arrived on Thursday (48 hours).

Oh Daily Mail. Of course he's just boxing because he's morose. Or because he's pressured to remain "sexy." Or because he's going through a midlife crises. *sigh* ETA: My frustration is solely for the Mail, not for bringing it to our attention. And what he's said said in the past, Peggy, he enjoys it because it's in stark opposition to the wide embrace of eastern exercise and meditation and the like, and also, apparently because it's very humbling to get into the ring with someone who's very, very good.

peggy06- 11-25-2007

Oh Daily Mail. Of course he's just boxing because he's morose. Or because he's pressured to remain "sexy." Or because he's going through a midlife crises. *sigh* I should have read the article first, I guess. Oh well, most of you probably get Google alerts anyway and would have seen it. At least they didn't mention the unscheduled trip to London. Didn't Hugh himself say why he boxes, some time ago?

Poeia- 11-25-2007

They got the quotes right. But he started boxing during Season 1 (and I think he's had the Porsche about the same length of time.) You know what I'm getting really annoyed at in the Daily Mail articles -- Jo isn't a public figure. She's entitled to her privacy. Do they have to mention her age every time they write a story about him? James Garner refuses to cooperate with Entertainment Weekly because, in the birthdays spot, they tell women's ages and that is impolite. I'm very comfortable telling my age (54), but some people aren't.

amysusanne- 11-25-2007

Oh Daily Mail. Of course he's just boxing because he's morose. Or because he's pressured to remain "sexy." Or because he's going through a midlife crises. *sigh* I thought the whole Porshe thing was pretty funny. That was the best they could do to indicate midlife crisis? A beat up (though quite impressive and hot) orange Porshe that he's had for years? I suppose that probably *was* the best they could do without getting sued. Whatever. I don't envy celebrities at all. I'd die, come back and die again if anyone published pictures of me doing situps *anywhere*. re: the AONAA updates... Weirdly, I had just gotten my notice that it had shipped right before I checked in here. I did the standard shipping instead of the free or second day, so who knows when it'll be here. Probably the same time as both the supposed second day *and* the free folks. I always suspect that they're all just bulk shipments anyway...

LightMyCandle- 11-25-2007

Oh Daily Mail. Of course he's just boxing because he's morose. Or because he's pressured to remain "sexy." Or because he's going through a midlife crises. *sigh* I know. Seriously, why must they try and make his life seem as depressing as possible?

Boffle- 11-25-2007

Yep, I got my notice that AoNAA has shipped (from Kentucky) and should be here in 5 days (regular shipping). Que sera sera... RE: the boxing. Guess someone's cameraphone got a workout that day, too. Sigh...

olivia720- 11-26-2007

His legs look gorgeous in the sit ups pic. Nice muscle memory from the rowing. He should be proud of those. Man, I'm glad I'm not famous, too (dodged that bullet!) Pics of me in this capacity would be pretty awful.
