I think it's funny how often Hugh has been paired with Dawn French or Imelda Saunton for the comedy in the visual dissonance when his wife is approximately the same height as they are.

Yup, totally agree. I can pop in here & read endlessly about Stephen apparently splitting up with Daniel, selling his house, giving the money to Daniel & is now dating some twentysomething but mention the fact that Hugh hasn't worn his wedding ring in public (Network parties etc fair enough he may have popped over from the set, but shows like Leno, Ellen & Craig F, he's always worn it) for over a year is shut down fairly sharpish.
Slight contradiction, no?
& i will point out that all the above mentioned Stephen info was obtained & distributed by the Daily Mail so not exactly gospel.
I think the fact that people strongly discourage and become quite terse when talking about HL's personal life but justify that it's ok to discuss SFs personal life ad nauseum is just semantics. Either neither is apropriate or they are both accepted and apropriate. I'm of course not encouraging the ban of either, 1st amendment blah blah.
That's my personal opinion. I dont participate in the speculation of either, so this is just an outsider observer chiming in. In many organizations i.e. the pentagon, they have independent bodies that people must go before to get thier ideas and conclusions challenged, so I've taken on that role in this matter voluntarily!
On another note, I love Imelda Staunton in everything she does. She was Fab in Harry potter, just an utter delight despite her character being a wretched woman to our Harry!

Speculation:
a. Contemplation or consideration of a subject; meditation.
b. A conclusion, opinion, or theory reached by conjecture.
c. Reasoning based on inconclusive evidence; conjecture or supposition.

I did not see any of this in the discussion about Stephen. No one talked about why he and Daniel are no longer together. None of us knows the reason and to discuss it would have been speculation (and I would have shut that conversation down.) We discussed the fact of the article and the pictures.
I love Hugh's wedding ring. I think it is a beautiful design and the right size for his hand.
Has he been wearing it? No, not for about a year.
Why hasn't he been wearing it? I have no idea and neither does anyone else in this forum.

Me, too. Very unique.

The speculations around this wedding ring and the fact that HL isn’t carring it are surprising. But I suppose that it’s because he became famous around the world. Before House, nobody paid attention on the fact he carried or not his wedding ring all the time (he was seen without it during months before 2004...), that he has no wedding ring on his wedding day etc....
He has nevertheless a marvellous current events, he registered a record of jazz, and he gave a fascinating and more personnal ITW to Tavis Smiley :D

Thank you. Finally a sane voice in the dessert.
I repeatedly said that it was logical for him not to wear a wedding ring, since House wears no ring. If he did that in his free time, an imprint would show and with the modern cameras it would be a clean mistake continuing during the series. Besides, he works 14-16 hours a day on the set. Without a ring.
During his free time he plays his numerous instruments. Wearing a ring is somehow disturbing while playing, if the ring isn't an integrative part of the hand.
Other than that, maybe he lost it, since he travels so much and has to film without a ring. If he did, I doubt he would replace it easily. You can't replace memories easily.

Brought over from the 7.02 episode thread:
Geez, then I better not mention that Hugh had his teeth fixed some time ago, and his upper eyelids lifted (the latter probably because it would have eventually impaired his eyesight).
I'm a sucker for HL's eyes and so I'm thinking that I must be blind because I've never noticed that's he had work done (except for the teeth). Did you read this somewhere, Cuddyclothes?
...
Yes, and also looking at pictures from "Flight of the Phoenix" and comparing them to candids of the last two years. <snip> It's only the upper lids I'm talking about; his lower lids are gloriously baggy.
Cuddyclothes, I presume your assertion that HL has had his upper eyelids lifted is not mere speculation. So, could you point me to where you read this (a link, if possible, or at least the name and date of the publication)?

Miranda Richardson getting fugged probably wouldn't qualify as Hugh-related except they mention him as Prince Ludwig in the description.

I never, ever, thought I'd be saying this, but after watching the first two episodes this year, I'm ready for this to be the last season of House and for Hugh to be free to do other things. Not to give anything away, but I found last week to be nearly unwatchable. I'd rather see Hugh doing films (has My Fair Lady been cast yet?) or another series (maybe David Shore's remake of The Rockford Files) or teaming up with Stephen to do almost anything. I'd regret not being able to see him regularly but I think Hugh can do better work elsewhere now. Just my opinion, of course, and YMMV.

Personally, I think the first two eps have been good.
However, I don't think House will be on longer than another season or two. You'll be able to see Hugh in other things. I hope he will do more movies after House.

Hmmmmm. I thought last week was like old style "house" with comedy, drama, good clinic patient and good POTW storyline. The romance was there but I liked how it played out.
Well, I plan to be there for the bitter end whenever that may be. But wherever Hugh goes, I will follow like sheep. I wonder if he would jump back in and do another series? He seems to have a very strong work ethic but it must limit him on a number of fronts.

Clint has a new movie coming out. I was thinking that it would be great if Hugh would play in a Clint movie.

I'd like for House to end in dignity, either after this or (I can dream) the 8th season. I wasn't overwhelmed with the first episode. It had many good bits but the "package" wasn't entirely satisfying to me. "Selfish", on the other hand, was fantastic. If the writers can maintain that level then I'm actually very much looking forward to yet another season.
But yes, I'd also love to see him do something else. Quality work, that is. A series would be exciting. A series with Robert Sean Leonard! I'd give my right leg for that. And then there's Stephen.
I prefer the former because I'd like to see Hugh do new challenges and in a collaboration with Stephen it'd be safe grounds. Nope, I'd prefer he did something with someone like Robert. Or some other actor/actress with whom he can play ping pong on a high artistic level.
As for movies, my dream would be for Hugh to star in Hitchcock remakes. They'd have to be extraterrestrial remakes, obviously, but if they could pull off these type of movies (previous remakes have sucked majestically) with someone like Hugh taking the place of, say, Cary Grant, Rex Harrison, James Stewart, Gregory Peck, I know he'd be a thousand times better than any of my old heroes.
Actually, I could also imagine him playing a character such as Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter. It'd be thrilling to see what he'd do with such a role.

Hmm...Which remakes would you really like to see him in if you had to choose?
The Man Who Knew Too Much? Rope? Spellbound? Oooo...How about Dial M for Murder?
Maybe something like "The Trouble With Harry." A type of black comedy.
I'm usually not a fan of remakes, but, I think Hugh could definitely do some of those comedies like Cary Grant. "His Girl Friday." He would make a good Walter Burns.
If they remade "The Philadelphia Story," do you think he would make a good C. K. Dexter Haven? That would probably go to George Clooney.
How about some of Willliam Powell's roles? He is a fan of The Thin Man, right? Or a remake of Libeled Lady. He could be Bill Chandler.
