Bailey, you do win at life but I meant that for DOB. The Belgium response was really, really funny.
I'm having a hell of a time with the log in process; hence the second post rather than simply editing the first one. Sorry, guys.

Does everyone know what Belgium means here?
Sorry if you do - but Stephen was doing a play with one of The Young Ones guys, lost it and fled to Belgium.
And in proof as to what a great BFF Hugh is - all he said when Stephen called him up a week later (after everyone - a la Ben Elton and his mother - had been going nuts trying to find him) was 'Belgium - why the heck Belgium?'.
And I do apologise to any Belgians. I'm sure it's a lovely place, just not your average destination for people having nervous breakdowns.

I bought a VHS copy of Hugh's episode of "The New Statesmen" for a quarter today.
A quarter? Sweet deal!! Just one question cause I'm totally blanking...what's "The New Statesmen"? Every now and again someone mentions a project of Hugh's that I either totally forgot about or never knew about at all...

I almost regret getting rid of my "Blackadder" tapes when I upgraded them. I gave them to someone who doesn't even speak to me anymore. Not that I knew that was going to happen, but still...I kind of liked those tapes and probably shouldn't have been so quick to give them up. I'm weird that way, I guess.
You know, when the ABOFL DVDs came out last year, I almost immediately dashed off and took my old VHS tape to Half-Price books for re-sell. Granted, I was never going to watch it again. In fact, I don't even have a functional VHS player at all. But still...I'm kind of regretting doing that. It was vintage, after all.
And, by the way, it kind of hurts to be told that I win at life and then later have that qualified and re-directed at someone else. :-(

Seriously. They had several tapes, but I have the full season with Hugh and I'm not the biggest fan of the show. Still, it's strange to walk into a random DVD shop in *Georgia* and see multiple episodes of this show laid out on a table at the front of the store.

It's the one where Rik Mayall (hey, relevant to Belgium talk, I guess...) plays the conservative MP. It's average. Funny, but not the best and possibly not all that entertaining to someone who doesn't already like Rik. I'm not sure.
Hugh's episode is "The Haltemprice Bunker". Hugh plays a waiter that Rik and Stephen abuse on their lunch break.

It's weird, right? I still have a ton of VHS that really needs to be weeded out and given away, but since giving up the "Blackadder" tapes I've avoided getting rid of some other random tapes. I did give away the ABOFL compilation (because it barely played anyway) and I've gotten rid of a ton of stuff that I taped myself or had taped for me, but I've cut out trashing some of it so that I won't regret it later. And you're right...we're never going to watch them again, but it still hurts to part with them.
And, by the way, it kind of hurts to be told that I win at life and then later have that qualified and re-directed at someone else.
Bailey, you suck!!
Oh, wait. I meant to direct that towards someone else. You don't suck.
(Does that make you feel better?)

Oh, Bailey!
I said you do win at life!
I just intended to comment on DOB's Belgium jibe!
Believe me, I've read enough of your posts to know that you WaL. :D
No hurt intended.
I'm just having a hell of a time with the log ins. Every time I change a page I get logged out and can't post. It's very frustrating. But, that's for another thread.
Here! Have a brownie? They're awfully good.....

Life has many winners, I'm sure, Bailey. It's more like a silent auction than a raffle. Or something. (At the very least, you must win at music predictions, because "Free Life" closed out Dirty Sexy Money this week.)
And I do apologise to any Belgians. I'm sure it's a lovely place, just not your average destination for people having nervous breakdowns.
Well, if you're going to have a nervous breakdown, you might as well do it a place that makes awesome chocolate, beer, waffles, and fries.

Hey, how come she gets the brownie? It guess it's true what they say, the squeaky wheel gets the brownie.
Captanne- 11-03-2007
With my luck today, this is probably a double post. :?
However, I will now go to the corner and kneel on rice. Y'all just let me know when I can get up.

Hear, hear.
*hands Captanne pillow*
*hands out brownies*
Now, let's all hold hands and get along.

Make sure the brownies are done first, okay? :-)
Actually, I've never heard that phrase before...kneel on rice. But now that you mention it, it sounds excruciating. Yikes.

Are you shitting me? That is so awesome! I'm telling you, I've been listening to that album thinking, this has to go somewhere. I did an interview w/ Dan Wilson a few weeks ago so I'll be contributing very soon to my own little Free Life push, but seriously House people....snatch it up.
(Does that make you feel better?)
A little bit.
after everyone - a la Ben Elton and his mother - had been going nuts trying to find him)
I'm laughing a little on the inside at the mere thought of Ben Elton's mother out looking for Stephen....No, I don't have a clue what Ben Elton's mother looks like.

Taking a break from mailbox sitting duty just to say that I love that Hugh was going to host a barbecue for the crew. That apartment balcony was gonna be awful crowded though :)

Believe me, it is! Gramma Captanne had all sorts of Southern punishment techniques for her impish granchildren!
None quite as dramatic as an ice bath, though.
On topic, it sounds very thoughtful (and in character) for Laurie to plan a barbeque for the crew! I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to have one in the future.

Re: Hugh partying:
I have to admit I'm a little skeptical of this whole idea. A month ago, he'd never hosted a party, and all of a sudden he is? And a barbeque? That quintessential American suburban activity? Hard to believe it would be his type of thing, especially when he's not used to entertaining....

We barbeque here in the UK all the time...when its not raining. Its not technically a party.
