That was my favorite part of the interview! He said "we didn't get the medal" twice I think and sounded REALLY disappointed! And I get that. He was a competitive athlete and it meant a lot to him so he pretty much devoted his life to it and he wanted to win something! But it's so Hugh that he didn't make a big deal out of the "fourth in the world" thing. Instead...he emphasized what he didn't win. I love that about him.

It's cute, especially in a day when most celebrities are quick to boast about anything, but because of what a therapist told me a few years ago, I can hardly read it without thinking of the cognitive distortion called "All or Nothing thinking", which makes it extremely easy to become depressed.
I don't know Hugh Laurie that well, so I don't know if that's what it's like, but I know he has a history with depression, so for me his almost obsessing over not being first (saying "we didn't get the medal" twice, according to hughsblues) is just him beating himself up.
D: Maybe I just cast a dark light on everything.

Wasn't it freezing the day they shot at the beach? I remember the shadow boxing Hugh was doing in an effort to keep warm.
For a show that seldom shoots outside, of course a day filming at the beach turns out to be windy and cold.

We had to keep quiet about those boffle! They came out before Locked In aired and if we had talked about them it would have spoiled you...or totally tortured you knowing you couldn't look at Hugh shadowboxing :wink:...so everybody kept mum on those beauties. They're around...let me see if I can find a link...
