idonmatrix, National Enquirer has a penchant for being sued because their articles are often bull. They take one ounce of truth and add 15 pounds of nonsense.
In this case they've taken the Australian interview and merged it with his unexpected trip home and come up with ????? The big difference between this article and the others is that they say "perhaps" that's why he went home for 2 days.
I don't think they have to worry about being sued. I mean, can you imagine HL going to court and saying "Your Honour. They guessed why I went back to England for a long weekend. And the way they worded that guess made many of their readers believe that was, indeed, the reason. But they guessed wrong. The real reason for my trip was..."
(I spelled honour with a "u" because it would be Hugh, not House, saying it. And that's the way Hugh says it.)

I wonder if one human critic exists who doesn't love him.
I can think of one who would rant and rave in private and viciously attack Messrs Fry and Laurie in public but I'm fairly sure he retired.
Heh, yes, Poeia, we do indeed say the u in honour

The National Equirer hangs its entire legal defense on the fact that in the U.S., with celebrities, you have to prove that the newspaper intended to harm them and knowingly printed false information. So in NE can say: We said "perhaps" and walk away and write their next piece of crap.
(Libel laws are different in the U.S. for celebrities than for non-celebrities.)
So the NE isn't more truthful because they've been sued, but in fact is less truthful because it knows all the loopholes.

I'm starting to think Mr Laurie legged it back over here for the very important Bafta's that he may of forgotten about...hehe (I hope anyway)
I think the Sinatra humming bit maybe the only piece of truth in that pap.

I know everybody has a right to post and talk about whatever they want but maybe it would be a good idea not to spread around and talk about this tabloid crap...it might just give this whole "story" a chance to die fast and quiet if we don't help to keep the buzz going. That's all I'm sayin.

At least he didn’t go to Belgium.

On a completely unrelated note, I bought a VHS copy of Hugh's episode of "The New Statesmen" for a quarter today. I don't know why I did it. I've been making an effort to get *rid* of all of the tapes that I don't need, not buy *more*. I had already dumped the original copy (a poor quality dub) when I got the DVD, but I saw the VHS copy there on the "used" table, I saw the price, I saw the tiny little picture of Hugh and Stephen on the back and I bought the damn thing. I'm sure I'll wind up keeping it. Assuming that it plays. I haven't actually tried that yet. If it doesn't, I'll just keep the cover. I almost regret getting rid of my "Blackadder" tapes when I upgraded them. I gave them to someone who doesn't even speak to me anymore. Not that I knew that was going to happen, but still...I kind of liked those tapes and probably shouldn't have been so quick to give them up. I'm weird that way, I guess.

Everyone has to go to Belgium now and then (I've often wondered what Shephen did there), but I think the story has a point. It does seem like they do work them very hard over there.
One of our mods was saying she was looking forward to getting out of the office by 8pm.
Feeyaw - sometimes we work odd hours in my country, but try telling everyone they have to work till 8pm and there would be a revolution.
I know Hugh gets paid a fortune, but it must also be a lot of responsibility and I would understand if he needed to go to Belgium for a little while.
And that hat is always a bad sign - remember the sailing thing.

Yup. In fact, in his position, I can't imagine not ever visiting Belgium. Not that I put a whole lot of stock in the National Enquirer, but to be fair to them, they actually do get quite a few things right. And, to be honest, this explanation sounds far more likely than the curing depression by flying to England bit. Could be right, could be wrong. Oh well.
The saddest thing about this whole ordeal is that on Leno Hugh said he'd never once thrown a party before. According to this article, he was supposed to. So I guess he still hasn't. That makes baby Jesus cry.
