I was wondering where you were, zumi.
Most Americans eat traditional Italian pizza -- cheese, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, etc. Most Italian pizzerias also have some vegetable toppings (broccoli, spinach, etc.) They'll also have Neopolitan pizza which is the fluffy crust rectangular one.
Things like fruit, barbecue chicken, avocado or shrimp are fairly recent. You won't find those in a pizzeria called Rocky's or Tony's.
Then there's Chicago Deep Dish Pizza...
iamdaffodils, Hugh is smarter than that -- he doesn't like pineapple at all.

What is the difference between Italian and American pizza? Let me know and I'll let you know which one we have in Ireland which I think are the same as in the UK. :)

You have Dominos Pizza there, right? That's a typical American: medium thickness in terms of the dough, tomato based sauce, mozzarella cheese completely covering the toppings, the typical toppings are pepperoni, sausage, some veggies like onions, green peppers and black olives. It's cut like a pie and there are several sizes that will feed multiple people.
The pizza you'd buy in Italy (or at least that I've had there) is thin crust, about the size of your dinner plate and serves one at dinner (or is split for an appetizer). The most typical is a margarita which has basil leaves, chunks of mozzarella, and tomato. There are also several variations available. I've had a four cheese pizza, mushrooms, spinach, etc. The pizza is not pre-sliced and not sliced into pie like slices but instead is served on a plate with a knife and fork that you cut and slice as you go. (I've seen Italians start at one side and work their way across cutting bite sized squares, so not so much with the slices or eating with your hands there.)
I've also had Nepolitan style pizza which is more similar to the Chicago Deep Dish, but the Chicago Deep Dish is really its own beast.
Topic?

Ah okay. We have both. American from takeaways like Dominos and Italian in restaurants usually. It's all just pizza to me. :)
That Hugh, he's great. :)

Must be the “eyes” of the pineapple that make him call it “devil’s fruit.” Kinda hard to remove if you’re buying it fresh.
He must have done a dozen interviews that one day for MvA. His watch says 4:05 (or 1:20?) if I’m not mistaken. And he’s scratching again. Will someone tie up his hands during interviews? Just kidding. He’s adorable.

The typical Italian pizza is margherita, with tomato sause, mozzarella, and basilico. The quattro stagioni is with mushrooms, artichokes, ham, olives, the quattro formaggi is with four kinds of cheese. The one I like is with rucola and prosciutto (uncured ham).
The crust is thin, and compared to the American pizza, very light with less tomato sause and cheese.
I think the American pizza has lots of varieties and very innovative. :D I don't know Chicago Deep Dish Pizza (sounds so gorgeous!:D), but our Japanese American type pizza seems very fattening, too. There're yakitori chicken, tuna and corn, cherry tomatos and bacon with genovese sause, mayonnaise chicken, etc. etc...
I'm now reading all the posts and videos I'd been missing, and I don't think I can sleep tonight! (and now I feel hungry...)

Indeed it is, and really the only thing I eat in terms of pizza :P
One amazing thing about Hugh doing an animated movie is we get to learn all these useless facts about him, the best kinds. Keep 'em coming!
Boffle- 03-27-2009
Well, one fact is that MvA is an awesome and very funny movie. Gorgeous animation, lots and lots of references, nice light fare and all the voice work is excellent. Love the cockroach. :-)
marykir- 03-27-2009
If at all possible, see MvA in 3D and on the biggest screen you can find. The animation does a really great job of creating a sense of incredibly large spaces.
I watched on IMAX - no problem seeing the 3D effects, no eyestrain trying to follow moving objects, no headache at all.

I saw MvA last night and it was wonderful!! As predicted, I spent the whole day at work today getting stuck at either projector 5, where we had a standard film print, or 2, where we have the digital 3D print, and watching "favorite" (they're all favorites, really, as long as they have a certain someone in them) scenes again and again. I love my job. :D
Favorite line at the moment:
"Rescind Dr Cockroach's toy box privileges. Immediately."
iamdaffodils- 03-27-2009
MVA is amazing. And the guy who voices the cockroach is quite a find.
LightMyCandle- 03-27-2009
I just got back from MvA. Hilarious, I loved it. I don't think I could pick a favorite line, but Dr. Cockroach's "OMG!" is definately up there.
And my dwindling love for Seth Rogan had been restored. I knew there was a reason I used to like him. And Will Arnett, I've always liked him.
Spider- 03-27-2009
I saw MvA in 2D today and absolutely loved it. It's very cute and I love the attention to detail, e.g. the news crawl during the news story about the alien invasion. Everything the Seth Rogan character said was hysterical, especially about jell-o and Derek.
And how could Hugh not love pineapple? It's good stuff.
LOL @ IamDaffodils...yeah, that cockroach guy is a keeper. :)
Chipmunk_love- 03-27-2009
I've been squeeing about MvA since the movie let out 2 hours ago. Oh, hell, I've been squeeing about it since it began. My favorite line was also the "OMG!" And the president "communicating" with the robot at the beginning.
ETA: Am I the only one who ships Susan/Dr. Cockroach just a little? Or The Missing Link/Insectosaurus?
zumi- 03-28-2009
And where can I listen to that song he mentioned?
Right here
Oh, it doesn't seem to work for people outside the US
Did you find a site that works? Here is a Japanese music site, last.fm. Click Ramsey Lewis "Do What You Wanna" on the list. Hope it works outside Japan. (maybe you can go to the original last.fm site. I think it's British.)
AAAh...I just can't wait to watch MvsA in 3D in April!!!
