He's Been Wooing Me for Years: House/Foreman
...What? I really like House/Foreman.

If you say so :)
Oh squick. I really can't get behind any House/duckling pairings. It'd sure be, uh, interesting though. Creepy, but interesting.

I know there's a huge fanbase for House/Cameron and House/Chase, and that I'm all alone in the wilderness over here, but my personal feeling is that House/Foreman is less squicky in terms of being a House/fellow pairing. House/fellow has all the implications of lots of different power differentials: teacher/student, older/younger, boss/employee. And from what I can see, both Cameron and Chase, in their own ways, depend so much on what House thinks of them, that it squicks me to see them in a romantic relationship with him, unless they're written as growing up a little more emotionally before getting involved. Foreman, though, is already more independent and less affected by House's opinion of him. This distance, and detachment, really lessens the impact of all the power imbalances inherent in their positions. Also, it's fun to write Foreman getting frustrated when House mocks him.

It's also fun when Foreman occasionally gets one over on House, like when he bet House that Wendy wasn't going out with Wilson in Fools for Love. Plus, wouldn't Foreman's whole "I don't want to be you" paranoia ramp right up into overdrive if he was in a "romantic" relationship with House. (Romantic in quotes, because I can't see them ever being flowers and teddy bears with each other.)

Yes, I could totally see that. Issues to explore! That's why I love writing them. Gah, also, you totally just gave me a plotbunny, Dee.

Yeah, I think House/Foreman would be the least squicky of all the House/fellows, because he does seem to be the most independant of House, but that doesn't change the fact that I always think of House as the fellows' Daddy, heee. Therefore, H/F remains far too incestuous for me.

Woo hoo!

I don't actively ship House/Foreman, but I can totally understand why people do. I've always sworn that there was some chemistry there in S1 and early S2 (you know, before they destroyed Foreman's character). Am I the only person that can't seem to stop typing 'Forearm' instead of 'Foreman'?

Am I the only person that can't seem to stop typing 'Forearm' instead of 'Foreman'? 'Foreskin' has been one of my slip-ups.

zulu- 08-08-2007

Heh, I just as often type Hosue.

I'm with you zulu. Make sure you post a link to that plotbunny if it grows up to be a fic. I think to truly appreciate House/Foreman you have to be partial to looks of Unconcealed Smugness. Which, sadly, I am. Plus, Foreman needs somebody to keep him from being a creepy fascist boss. I have the feeling he's been teetering on that edge since he was four. I'm crap for titles, but just to get the ball rolling: You two: Break out the oils. See what I did there? :P Sorry Marty. They went to Hopkins. For indeed, they did. And apparently they teach you about something called a hoo-hoo there (See: S2, Need to Know). Which could drive anyone into another man's arms. I've got a case of malt liquor stashed in the trunk and Mr. Marvin Gaye on the CD player. We are gonna get all the way down. Obviously too long (and said in reference to the wrong fellow)—it just makes me laugh.

I'm a diehard House-Wilson fangirl, but if you follow the canon it's Foreman that House is in love with.

deelaundry- 08-11-2007

Ooh, intriguing, Taiga. Can you explain more?

sautomne- 08-11-2007

I'm a diehard House-Wilson fangirl, but if you follow the canon it's Foreman that House is in love with. I, too, would love to hear more! I feel like that statement is true, but I have a hard time articulating why. I need to watch my S1 dvd's again. I seem to remember some H/F slashy bits...

For House/Foreman slash, there's nothing like a good long look at Poison, DNR, and Distractions. Detox, too. Foreman takes care of House when he's sick; House is so totally jealous of Foreman's old boss, Marty; and they're more alike than either of them wants to admit. Plus, the end of season three? Come on! House didn't want Foreman to go! He practically begged him to stay, even if he did it poorly. And Foreman's "I don't want to be like you" speeches? Nothing but repressing his own desires, man. And, Sans Serif, the plotbunny Dee gave me will eventually be a sequel to my last House/Foreman piece, Percussion. I'm writing more in that verse as we speak.
