House mentioned on Family Guy (my other fav show):
Meg (trying to work as a phone sex worker, and doing a bad job): "What would we do? I don't know . . . order pizza, watch House . . ."
guess ya had to be there.

Today's NYTimes has a story comparing the way "House" and "Prison Break" shook things up, coming down heavily on "House's" favor.

House survivors USA Today has this article about the doctors/actors who may or may not make the cut to become regulars:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2007-10-21-house-main_N.htm
Here's a little tease that contradicts what others have said:
The Hollywood Reporter, citing unnamed sources, reported recently that Kal Penn, who plays unorthodox doctor Kutner; Olivia Wilde, known as "No. 13"; and Peter Jacobson, plastic surgeon Taub, already have been tapped to become regulars.
Jacobs says "two or three" will remain, but who they are "has not been decided. (Reporters) seem to know more about things than we do — and before we do."
It's an interesting piece. Among other things, it says that ratings are up 28%. Can that be right?

From the NY Time article:
“House” also used to its advantage a plot device established in the first season: House’s assistants were enrolled in a three-year fellowship program.
No, Foreman did 3 years of a 2-year fellowship (DNR.)
We don't know how long Chase and Cameron were there, but it was longer than 3 years.

This just barely qualifies, because it only mentions House in the first line, but it's an interesting article. Mods, feel free to delete it if I'm violating the rules.

Ratings are up, but 28% seems high. Early last season, except for the premiere which didn't have any competition, same day ratings were about 14.5M total viewers. This year, same day ratings are about 17.7M total viewers. A18-49 has a similar increase.
extra_cat- 10-22-2007
Are they up 28% from the first season? Sounds like some statistical abuse going on to me.
Taiga- 10-22-2007
sherlockjr, couldn't you have put that under a spoiler cut?!! I didn't want to know!!!
We don't know how long Chase and Cameron were there, but it was longer than 3 years.
House said that Chase had been there four years in 'Human Error'. Chase referred to something that happened at PPTH "before Cameron was here" so she was hired after him.
Tenna- 10-22-2007
Chase was there four years, Cameron three and a half, Foreman three. (Based off the cut ducklings scene in Pilot).

It can be right, but there are 8 billion different ways to calculate the ratings, so it all depends on what they're using and what they're comparing it to as to whether it means anything to *us* or not. Ratings are definitely up. But, other shows ratings are down, so their percentage of total viewers could increase more than their actual viewers watching. I'd also imagine that they're doing the easiest math and most impressive math, which would be calculating from this point last year instead of using the average of the last part of season 3. They're certainly not calculating from season one since, aside from being something that would make everyone on the planet laugh, that's just not what people do, networks, producers or critics.
As for Katie's comments about the newbies...that sounds like spin. Even if the three we're going to wind up with aren't the three that have been reported, I still find it hard to believe they don't know, at this point, who's sticking around. I think she's just trying to retake control of things. Which is what she's supposed to do, so good for her. Still, I think they've made their choices.
Of course, it might not actually be spin at all. The comments are so similar to comments made at various press events these past couple of months. Unless I completely overlooked a line somewhere, I don't see where it says *when* these quotes were given, so this could be holdover quotes.

For those that are curious, Stephen has updated his blog today. There's some information about his current tour across America. Currently he's in Maine. I wonder how long he is devoting to this trip and what the countdown is until he arrives up here in the wild reaches of the Pacific Northwest.
I am so cheered that he started it off with "What ho!"

Since this is USA Today, which tends to do its own reporting and interviewing, my guess is that her comments are pretty recent. Especially as they refer to an also-recent Hollywood Reporter story. That doesn't mean she's not spinning things, but her statement combined with the comments by the newbie/survivors themselves suggest to me perhaps she's telling the truth, and that the PTB haven't made their final decisions yet.
I just wish Fox would put up a poll on its House site -- if it's going to be like a reality show, at least let us vote!

We had a little shout to House on the Australian media: The comedy show The Chaser is on opposite House and a few weeks back instead of the usual Chaz, Chris, etc captions they read Hugh laurie, RSL, Omar Epps, Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer.
An one pundit was talking about Life and and the British lead - she talked about 'the Hugh Laurie' effect, ie when you need an actor with a greater emotional range than David Caruso - go British.
olivia720- 10-23-2007
David Caruso has range?

I wasn't saying that the artcle itself was old, only that the quotes weren't from, say, this week. I also wasn't implying that USA Today cut and pasted someone else's quotes. Of course they do their own interviewing. They would have/could have been present for any or all of the recent "House" or FOX-related media events where Katie and David both said, basically, the same thing. I'm just saying that we don't know the exact context of her comment about reporters knowing more than they do.

Their comments are the same thing they've been saying since the Emmys, too...before and after the various stories about who was staying. Even if they have decided, the "two or three" who are picked will still be obligated to pretend they don't know what's going on. That's part of the gig. Everyone on the planet can know, but until your bosses tell you can comment on it, you don't.
I have no problem believing that they're trying to spin it to try maintain some sense of suspense and I have no huge problem believing that no one has officially made any announcements anywhere, but I am skeptical wrt them not having made the decision at all.

Oh, yay, a new Fry blog! Something to occupy my time at work today!
I'm wondering how long he's devoting to the trip, too, because he's been in Maine for, what...a week? And he's hitting every state? He could belong to us for awhile! (g)
