No, I believe he was watching Vertigo at the end of Safe.

See? That's what I thought! Oh RSL, do not cast stones at the idiocy of thy character when you don't know him as well as you thought! ;-)
Wouldn't it have been awesome if the interviewer was a big fan and pointed that mistake out? ;-)

I know I would have, but that's because I like to do that *bad habit*

It is very likely that RSL doesn't even know that Wilson was watching Vertigo. In the scene we don't see a picture on the TV and the sound would have been added in later. They wouldn't have had anything actually playing while filming the scene.
radiosweetheart- 10-17-2007
That's not even a cool movie. It's a film student movie. I watched it 2 or 3 times in film classes anyway. I have a great love for that movie. I got A's on the papers in which I showed how Midge and Kim Novak's characters were manifestations of Scotty's repressed sexuality. (That's just the sort of crap Popular Culture professors love. Anything that shows latent deviance in any form is alright in their books...oh how I miss school.)
Silly RSL, he doesn't even pay attention to his character's TV viewing habits!

It might be wishful thinking but I got the feeling RSL was laying the promotional groundwork for BGW...Anyone else get that too? It's just...chick flicks? And 'not with women anyway'?
Maybe I'm just obsessing...'maybe' ;)

I got that feeling as well, but I just want BGW to happen so badly that my views might be a bit colored lol.

*reads with gaping eyes* Wha-?? EEK, I really want to watch it now!!

It was definitely Vertigo -- Barbara Bel Geddes explaining an new, revolutionary bra to James Stewart.

No, but it was likely in the script. And doesn't he have a giant Vertigo poster on his office wall? RSL would surely notice that aspect of his character.
galaxygirl- 10-17-2007
He mentioned the Vertigo poster, not the Touch of Evil one though.

Well, it played for me though it kept hiccupping and needing to rebuffer itself (paging Dr. Buffer! ). Is it okay that I totally preferred to ignore LE OE DS KJ OW and the guy who plays the plastic surgeon in favor of watching RSL and HL in the background? Cause, yeah, way more interesting, people. Wonder who the (presumably) women with the top knot and the pony tail are....

RSL says that Wilson has the poster hanging in his office but has likely never even seen the movie.
It might have been mentioned in the script, it might not. It could have also been scripted as another movie playing and they changed it later. It might not have been scripted at all that Wilson was even watching TV in that scene. And I really wouldn't hold it against RSL if he did know and couldn't remember two years later. The man is an actor on a show not a fanatic follower.
I found the interview a bit odd. I don't follow RSL stuff, if it doesn't relate to House. Is he always this... I don't know... disjointed?

Always is a strong word, but yes.
galaxygirl- 10-17-2007
For RSL standard, I'd say that this was a lot less odd than usual lol
