I do think that GY also puts himself out there as the designated whipping boy for fandom, so they'll attack him, rather than other writers/directors. (Supposedly, Sara Hess has been getting whacked with the whackos for writing "Bombshells.") Whether he intentionally goads to keep the attention focused on him or not, I'm not sure, but that does seem to be the result.

Mer Duff- 03-09-2011

I skimmed through GY's twitter feed, and while I wouldn't call his tweets professional, I'm not sure I'd be able to restrain myself in the long run any better. The problem with a medium like twitter is it's designed to be instant reaction, what you're thinking right now, which is hardly conducive to the measured response required in response to people freaking out at you en mass. Can you imagine how House would respond to the weekly shit storm? House on twitter would be epic!

Namaste- 03-09-2011

Hee. I think House on Twitter would be a combination of the fictional Twitter streams of Mayor Emanuel and RuthBourdain (For those unaware, Mayor Emanuel was the work of a journalism prof who was only unveiled after the real Rahm Emanuel won the mayor election in Chicago. Ruth Bourdain -- a mashup of the former Gourmet magazine editor Ruth Reichel and the wonderfully profane Anthony Bourdain -- remains incognito.)

Imagine the spew that would come out of his tweets and it would be quite entertaining.

Even though I think GY can be pretty annoying sometimes, I feel grateful to him, for he is the person who brought Lisa Edelstein to Twitter, and I love that woman with a passion :).

sasmom- 03-09-2011

I'm interviewing Liz Friedman tomorrow. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to message me either here on twitter.

Namaste- 03-10-2011

Don't know if they're posted elsewhere, but Sara Hess tweeted some behind the scenes photos from "Bombshells." You can see them in the House Tweets roundup on LJ here. (Along with some hate tweets.) There are spoilers in that as well, but they're at the end of the post and well marked behind the spoiler warning banner.

Here is a recent interview with Sara Hess and Liz Friedman about Bombshells (not the one that is on Youtube): http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracke...-that-jazz.html

Someone asks if show runners should be so mean on Twitter in this week's Ask Matt at TVGuide.com, mentioning Greg Yaitanes and Bones' Hart Hanson. His basic answer -- it would help if everyone calmed down.

Gatuna- 03-15-2011

Someone asks if show runners should be so mean on Twitter in this week's Ask Matt at TVGuide.com, mentioning Greg Yaitanes and Bones' Hart Hanson. (Bolding mine:) When it comes to ping-pong back-and-forth Internet opining, especially on Twitter, it can be way too easy to type before you think and fire off a heated response when it feels like "fans" are piling on, I'm sure. My attitude toward all of this is not to take any of it personally — which I know is easier said then done when you're so passionate about a show. The guy speaks the truth. I'm also glad that he emphasizes the fans parts with quotation marks. Still, I think that a show-runner who sees himself as "professional" would not even get in touch with fans on twitter, precisely for the reason Matt exposes about Twitter's kind of social media. That's why I never understood why the outrage about GY's tweets, as if it were so professional of him to answer to fans in their own language since even before the start of s7, to begin with. Fans love to read his twitters precisely because he's the only one of TPTB that directly replies some of the fans questions! Now they don't like it because this time they didn't like his response, so they're blowing it out of proportion. On the other hand, as I raised the question before, what did the fans expect him to respond to their collective "Fuck you!"'s? If he replies in kind, it's because he did so; if he had kept quiet then the whining would have been about him daring to ignore them. You can't win where Twitter is concerned.

peggy06- 03-15-2011

You can't win where Twitter is concerned. IMO, it's madness for anybody associated with a show at a high level to engage with fandom this way. I'd go further and say I think it hurts the show, though I know most HHoWers think TPTB don't let fandom affect them.

Namaste- 03-16-2011

though I know most HHoWers think TPTB don't let fandom affect them. I think there's a difference between being affected when people yell (in Internet terms) "You suck!" multiple times and send you death threats in terms of having a kneejerk negative reaction, and the concept of being affected in terms of changing the story line.

Apparently DS did an interview in Brazil and some of he following things were said. I credit IWFC with this info because that is where I pulled it from: I think this is where I should post this info. I probably didn't need to do this but I put spoiler tags on this. I wasn't sure if it would be considered spoiler material. I don't think it is but I want to be careful. If not spoiler material, I can take the white tags off. -David Shore said in an interview today (in Brazil) that we will have for sure the next season and he plans for the series finale in 2 years. - He didnt wanted to talk about the season finale. - He said: "'House' is not a medical series. Medicine is a detail, the main thing is the human drama " - he said: "Make House happy would be the character's death" - And he said when Hugh Laurie laughs on the episode is a signal that the ep sucks. - He said he expect to not disappoint the fans in the end. This is very exciting because I want the show to go out on its own terms so I am thinking the negotiations went well for them. And they also have an end game in mind. I wish he would have said who is signed on for the next 2 years. Hugh must have agreed to another year because without him, there is no show. What about the rest of the cast. I hope they keep all of them intact. I unwhited the first two items but I actually think the entire thing isn't a spoiler. I'll confer with the others. Poeia ETA: Two of us say "non-spoiler" and the others haven't checked in so I'm declaring the whole thing spoiler-free. Poeia

There is at least one thing we know now, House is not gonna die this year!

Anybody to go Duke? Kaplow is taking part in a lecture about the medical ethics & House on Friday. http://trentcenter.duke.edu/wysiwyg/downloads/House_19x25Mar8.pdf
