I tend to find that I'm alright with less Hugh depending on who they rely on to pick up the slack. If we get more JS and RSL and a bit less Hugh then I'm a-ok with that, particularly if it means that Hugh gets some rest and doesn't burn out. If less Hugh means that I have to suffer through more Thirteen and Foreman, then *dammit* I want Hugh to work his ass off, burn out be damned. To me, House needs to be the central character (non-potw) of each episode. If it can be done by reference (i.e., another character drives the action, but the episode is still "about House") then it works. It did that in "Wilson" and I thought 5 to 9 worked also. Other storylines can thrive if informed by and inform their Housian relationships. When they veer away from House and don't really involve him at all, I think (IMHO) the show is less successful. But that's just my opinion. ;)

Yeah, I'm of the same opinion. House has to be the sun taht everyone and everything revolves around. Otherwise, it just doesn't work. Besides, I don't really care that much about anyone else apart from House.

I find that when House isn't the center of the show, it becomes "common," just ordinary, about regular type folks and I lose interest even though I like all the other characters for the most part. House is an enigma wrapped in a plethora of metaphors (a methora, a pletaphor?) and he is so charged with conundrum and conflict that he's a never-ending source of entertainment, one way or another. Will his wings melt? Will he be bored by every single thing on earth? Will he ever unequivocally do anything? And, to keep with the earlier metaphor, it takes a sun to illuminate the sky: planets don't illuminate themselves, you know. /rant

Live Science just posted the results of a study of ethical issues on both House and Grey's Anatomy. http://www.livescience.com/culture/medical-tv-shows-ethical-failures-100330.html

Live Science just posted the results of a study of ethical issues on both House and Grey's Anatomy. http://www.livescience.com/culture/medical-tv-shows-ethical-failures-100330.html In general, exemplary depictions portrayed "compassionate, knowledgeable physicians participating in a balanced discussion with a patient about possible treatment options." Conversely, inadequate depictions were "marked by hurried and one-sided discussions, refusal by physicians to answer questions," and "even an entire lack of informed consent for risky procedures," the authors state. Isn't that pretty much the definition of Greg House?

marykir- 03-30-2010

How boring would the show be if we had to sit through balanced discussions with the patient every time the team wanted to do a procedure? :)

Namaste- 03-31-2010

LE is on the cover of a Parade magazine newspaper supplement out today (at least it's in the paper today in ST. Pete, Fla.,) called "HealthyStyle." Nothing about the show, really, mostly about health and fitness.

How boring would the show be if we had to sit through balanced discussions with the patient every time the team wanted to do a procedure? :) This is what I wrote elsewhere after reading the article: Gee, ethical problems on a television program? We'd better get on those writers to remove all of the drama and replace it with good teaching tools. House sits down quietly and compassionately with his patients, and educates them about sexual abuse, unsafe behavior of all kinds, and always ends with a smile and a tender pat on the arm. "I'm so glad I was able to help," he says, a twinkle in his blue eyes. "I'm a doctor, and therefore held to a higher level of conduct than ordinary human beings." Ratings plummet 97%.

Since tomorrow "Broken" (in parts) will air in Germany, there's a new interview with Franka Potente here. Translation: Ms Potente, did you ever think you'd be on a medical show? As a blanket statement, no. "Dr House" has been a favorite show of mine and a very uncommon one. Do you like black humor? Are you one of the 4 million, who watch "Dr House" regularly on RTL? Like I said, I was already a fan. I always watch shows on DVD. What's "House"-actor Hugh Laurie like on set? Is he a good, fair colleague? The actor became a star with the show and does not reveal much about himself. I like Hugh very much. He is very visibly intelligent and very professional. It impressed me, how perfectly he knew his ten pages of dialog a day, with all the complicated terms. He is a very considerate colleague, who asks you interesting questions, as well. We had a lot of fun at work. Did you know him beforehand? Had he, for example, seen your movie "Run Lola, Run"? Hugh knew my work, yes. We didn't know each other before the shoot. We can give this much away: There's going to be a kiss between you and Dr. House, also known as Hugh Laurie. I know a lot of women, who envy you a lot about that. I'll readily believe that. Hugh was almost shy and very adorable on that shooting day. For us actors, on the other hand, that is actually simply "work". With respect, maybe there are similarities between you and "Dr House". You are said to be someone, who can offend through their honesty. Is that so? Don't know. Do you watch other shows besides "Dr House"? Yes, my favorites are "Sex and the City", "Big Love" and "Twin Peaks". TV shows in general, especially US shows, are very much presentable, due to excellent writers and production conditions. Tim Roth, Gary Sinise, Kiefer Sutherland - more and more first class actors are taking on major series roles. Would you act in a series long term? I don't plan my career at all. I work more on a strike of fancy kind of principle, and do what I feel like, what I'm curious about. I've just been to South Africa for three months for the BBC and Teamworx and am currently working on my first novel. We'll see what happens next. Maybe a vacation.

Not certain if this is the best place to put this, but since it's an Ausiello item from EW, I'll put it here. (No Spoilers!) Nurse Jeffrey will be part of an ongoing House iPhone app that will update throughout the summer hiatus, using the character in an "upstairs/downstairs" style story line of PPTH. (Or "appisodes" as Greg Yaitanes called them.)

I don't speak French, so I have no idea what it says, but here are some more preview images for the House PC game. And (at least from this image) I get the impression that they might have used photoshop-ed screen captures instead of drawing from scratch. They look good. Too bad they're not voiced by the originals.

idonmatrix- 04-06-2010

Yeah, I'm of the same opinion. House has to be the sun taht everyone and everything revolves around. Otherwise, it just doesn't work. Besides, I don't really care that much about anyone else apart from House. I wish that was true for me but they've made House the character so juvenile that my love for him is limited to the screen time he shares with Wilson. If it wasn't for Wilson, really there's no way I'd still be watching this show.

Traduction from french, litterally : If you, too, like to follow the weekly adventures of the most brilliant, cranky and cynical doc in the whole galaxy, you will probably be interested by these shots. Today's screencaps show us the PC version of House, a (more or less) free adaptation of the TV serie. You will find virtual versions of Hugh Laurie and colleagues, during lots of mini-games, meant to lead us to discover five rare diseases.

If you want to avoid absolutely everything about the finale, then don't click on this, but if you can handle slight spoilers (nothing related to plot) there's an interesting part on this GeekBriefTV spot on the technical aspects. (It's the third story in the webcast .... and the outtake after the credits is cute too.) Also, the anchor is wearing a "Normal's Overrated" t-shirt.
