So you don't hate Hugh Laurie at the end of the day? "Oh my God, are you kidding me? I say the more abuse the better ... Hugh's probably more sensitive about it than anybody ... I get the feeling he feels kind of bad and he never should ... Hugh is a gem and a joy to work with, even when he’s making me feel like sh--." All the actors seem very friendly with each other, how do you keep the tension that we see on screen? That’s the writing. We are. It’s a really lovely group to work with – especially Olivia, Omar and Hugh who I work with a lot, almost every day. I feel very close to them … I just don’t work that much with Robert and Lisa and Jesse and Jennifer , I wish I did more ... I find them just great fun to work with. The tension that is on the show – that's the writers, they are very smart about keeping those relationships tense … that’s what makes good. You have characters who aren’t necessarily comfortable with each other. If you didn't have that, why would you want to watch?
House stands out by defying the conventions of network television: he is a wisecracking recluse who resists every attempt to be turned lovable or even likable. He feels malice toward all, and his addiction to Vicodin isn’t even the root cause. (His corrosive sarcasm may mask a deeper hurt, but that doesn’t make him a better person.)(The LATimes goes with the "House" comparison as well, for what it's worth, and comes to similar conclusions.)
•So, are your summer standards low enough to go Mental? U.K. import Chris Vance (Prison Break) stars in this postseason toss-away as the new director of psychiatric services at a Los Angeles hospital, where he clashes with his staff and his ultimately supportive boss (Annabella Sciorra, lifeless in a role that House's Lisa Edelstein proves doesn't have to be thankless).
Hugh Laurie should not only be nominated each and every year, he needs to win already. We cannot afford to take Hugh Laurie for granted.Another great line:
if we can have best reality host, then why not "best hallucinations" (nominees: "Grey's Anatomy," "House," "Bones")
House: Just got the early word that House star Hugh Laurie and executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs will attend a Paley Center for Media event in Los Angeles June 17. Tickets are available tomorrow at noon via the Paley Center website.
