He went to last year's with JM and JS! Put on a tie and everything! :D  Wow, I didn't know that. I guess he's done his part for a while. :balloon:

Via Ausiello Twitter: "Watching Fox upfront: Only 'House' stars in attendance are Lisa Edelstein and Peter Jacobson." Lisa seems to go to just about everything and Peter lives in New York. There's someone else who lives in New York but god forbid he should show up at a press event. I thought he and his wife were living somewhere in LA county. RSL is my favorite actor and I would love to see him at more things BUT I like the idea that he thinks of it as job and not a lifestyle. Much easier for him to stay sane. And I'm sure it's in his contract how many and what events he's required to attend. Sometimes folks forget when these actors show up these events they are working.

EW picked best TV wedding dresses this season and Cam's was chosen as one of them: here

PJ gave an interview with PopEater recently: How does "Secretary Jacobson" sound to you?

EW picked best TV wedding dresses this season and Cam's was chosen as one of them: here OMG, the comments! Jealous JS fans and angry House/Cameron shippers. Not pretty. PJ gave an interview with PopEater recently: How does "Secretary Jacobson" sound to you? Good interview, I'm glad I read it. Couple of Q-and-As I enjoyed: So you don't hate Hugh Laurie at the end of the day? "Oh my God, are you kidding me? I say the more abuse the better ... Hugh's probably more sensitive about it than anybody ... I get the feeling he feels kind of bad and he never should ... Hugh is a gem and a joy to work with, even when he’s making me feel like sh--." All the actors seem very friendly with each other, how do you keep the tension that we see on screen? That’s the writing. We are. It’s a really lovely group to work with – especially Olivia , Omar and Hugh who I work with a lot, almost every day. I feel very close to them … I just don’t work that much with Robert and Lisa and Jesse and Jennifer , I wish I did more ... I find them just great fun to work with. The tension that is on the show – that's the writers, they are very smart about keeping those relationships tense … that’s what makes good. You have characters who aren’t necessarily comfortable with each other. If you didn't have that, why would you want to watch? Mod Note: Please don't make back to back posts a few minutes apart - just edit your first comment and add your new thoughts. I've done that above and deleted your second post. Thanks, Fid.

A review of the new Fox show "Mental" in the New York Times uses extensive comparisons to "House" and why it works, while this one really doesn't. I loved this bit here, especially the parenthetical final sentence: House stands out by defying the conventions of network television: he is a wisecracking recluse who resists every attempt to be turned lovable or even likable. He feels malice toward all, and his addiction to Vicodin isn’t even the root cause. (His corrosive sarcasm may mask a deeper hurt, but that doesn’t make him a better person.) (The LATimes goes with the "House" comparison as well, for what it's worth, and comes to similar conclusions.)

pitairie- 05-26-2009

I just read that article this morning and Alessandra Stanley really parses "Mental" as "anti-House": many people tune in to "House" because of the main character, but for "Mental" she blames the lead character, Gallagher, for diminishing the watchability of the show. Think uber-Dr. Sebastian Charles.

Boffle- 05-26-2009

ITA with those reviews. HL said at the beginning that not caring about being liked, paradoxically, made House likeable. Which is proven backwards here: they have tried to make a "nice" House clone but this time by making him"likeable" in some sort of über Patch Adams way, and so they make him unwatchable. I've only seen the promos and the reviews: the promo, which I only heard while doing something else, sounded like Cuddy!clone talking to anti-House. Weird. So, I think I'll give it a miss.

I read the review in the Boston Globe. What makes House work is that he doesn't care, he isn't conventionally attractive, and he is disabled. It makes it much easier to forgive him when you know he is conflicted, suffering, and just not a part of 'normal' society. They fail when they try to make a similar character seem House-like, but also normal and likeable. It doesn't work. You need the "outsider" element to House to make him tolerable, IMO.

According to USA Today's Robert Bianco, you're not alone: •So, are your summer standards low enough to go Mental? U.K. import Chris Vance (Prison Break) stars in this postseason toss-away as the new director of psychiatric services at a Los Angeles hospital, where he clashes with his staff and his ultimately supportive boss (Annabella Sciorra, lifeless in a role that House's Lisa Edelstein proves doesn't have to be thankless).

Mary McNamara, TV critic for the L.A. Times, has this to say in an article about what she'd like to see on this year's Emmys telecast: Hugh Laurie should not only be nominated each and every year, he needs to win already. We cannot afford to take Hugh Laurie for granted. Another great line: if we can have best reality host, then why not "best hallucinations" (nominees: "Grey's Anatomy," "House," "Bones")

Taiga- 05-26-2009

There's a category for best reality host? As for the success of the House character, I think a lot of it has to do with Hugh Laurie himself. We'll never know but I believe a lesser actor, one who wasn't as able to show House's humanity even when he's behaving terribly, wouldn't be able to make the character sympathetic (I hesitate to say "likeable").

From E! House: Just got the early word that House star Hugh Laurie and executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs will attend a Paley Center for Media event in Los Angeles June 17. Tickets are available tomorrow at noon via the Paley Center website.

Manu, if you go, please tell us about it here. I used to live in San Diego, 15 years ago, but now I live very far away, 6,000 miles (10,000 kilometers). Is this only House MD's second appearance at the Paley's?
