I thought I was the only one who thought he should be written off but a lot of people do
At least four.
Of course one of them thinks that Michael Weston is still on the show, so in their world Chase could be the second lead. I could see where that might be annoying to them.
Speaking of "buying" someone as a doctor, didn't House say in one of the first episodes, that he was curious about Cameron when he hired her because women as beautiful as her just don't become doctors? That it's just not necessary for someone with her looks to work that hard at life? So what does the show do but bring in another spectacular looking woman to portray another doctor. I guess this is a Fox show after all.
I'm going to guess that even in House's world there is more than one beautiful doctor out there. Certainly he finds Cuddy attractive. House's reasons for hiring Cameron, Chase and Foreman were always debatable. He gave Cameron that speech for a reason and it wasn't to come clean on his hiring practices. He was playing games from day one.

While I agree that he was playing games with her, I think he also gave her at least three real reasons for hiring her. One, that she was pretty, but, more importantly, two, that she was damaged, which made her easy to manipulate. The third reason was that she was a strong candidate.

Plus with the latest beautiful doctor it would seem part of the reason she went into medicine was her Mother's and her illness.

I'm not saying they weren't real factors, I'm saying that he specifically chose the reasons he told her for maximum effect. I believe he hired Chase because of his father, but I don't believe he hired Chase only because of his father. Ditto on Foreman's thievery. These are just a part of a bigger picture. House didn't hire Cameron simply because she's pretty and that the logical leap from there is that she's damaged. Nothing House does is as simple as why he tells you he did it even when he's telling you the truth.

I agree 100%

The LATimes puts HL on its list of "best" from the People's Choice Awards coverage. (It's the second photo, if the gallery doesn't go straight there.)
“It’s a particular honor to be the people’s choice because the people have been choosing so well lately,” announced a playful Hugh Laurie in his native English accent. Witty and dapper, with charm to spare, Hugh was on stage a pitifully short time. Come back!

Just saw a quick bit of coverage of the PCAs on ET. As usual, they pay a huge amount of attention to the same people (Charlie Sheen everybody!)
There was a spot of some stars being given bags of M&M's with sayings and pictures on them. They did show the House cast being handed the M&M's with Hugh's picture on them. JMo was squealing about how cute they were and I caught a quick glimpse of Hugh looking over her shoulder, but it was over in a blink.

The coverage on E! was similarly light on House. I didn't see any of the cast on E! News, but there were a few seconds with Jennifer on the red carpet during The Daily 10.

What is up with that dumb show of his getting so much publicity anyway?
Hey, HL was wearing his wig at the awards ceremony.

The People Choice Awards were on CBS?

That's what does it. Man, anyone else notice how much pimping CBS did last night?

Extra is taking questions to ask Golden Globe nominees. You probably have to submit a question on video to get it on air though. Half their show seems to be fan cam questions these days...

That's sort of roundabout, but yeah. ET pays attention to the show (independently of the PCAs) because of the Paramount/CBS/Viacom connection. ET spends most of its time talking about CBS shows, with a tiny bit of the CW leaking through and then the token shows on the other network, like GA or DH getting a small amount of attention. That's the way it's been for years. ET loves their parent company.

The PCAs are just a bit promotional tool anyway. Although, to be fair to CBS, any network that has an award show is going to use it as a platform to promote their stuff. We'll see a good amount of NBC and Universal folks on the GGs this weekend. The SAGs won't waste an opportunity to get Kyra and Holly out there (and probably Tom, Eric and Tim while they're at it; Eric presented the nominees) and it's always fun to watch the Emmys when they rotate out to a different network just to see how top heavy the presenter list is with that network's stars. Ryan Seacrest hosted because he's Fox's guy. Conan hosted because he lives at NBC. It's just the way it works.
edited because it's and its aren't the same thing.

The People's Choice website has two clips up: one with OE and another with the cast.

TV Guide points out this interesting 2009 Golden Globes trivia (with a big picture of HL as House):
Four nominees — Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Laurie and Tom Wilkinson — costarred in 1995's Sense and Sensibility, which nabbed Winslet her first Globe nod.
