Hodgkin's disease? Temporary lesbianism - what the hell is a temporary lesbian? It's a term for lesbians who forgot they were actually straight? Why can't they just say bi-sexual? Oy vey.

fffaw- 11-25-2008

They also feature a character from a show that's long canceled (Alex from Moonlight) - are they watching the same TV shows we are? Or are they in some strange parallel universe?

Temporary lesbianism - what the hell is a temporary lesbian? It's a term for lesbians who forgot they were actually straight? So, this means that I can temporarily forget that I'm straight? Oh, the things I learn with this show!

Boffle- 11-25-2008

My theory? They meet OW, she's vivacious, enthusiastic, pretty, playing a bisexual on tv, and they fall in love with her and figure she's the hottest thing around and they can't go wrong promoting her (especially if they're guys). They just never get around to watching the show. Sigh.

They've fixed the illness -- it now says Huntington's disease -- but not the sexual orientation.

amysusanne- 11-25-2008

I would like to think that they're being some combo of cynical and sarcastic, but I suspect they're just being kind of douchey.

This isn't exactly electronic media but House got a mention in one of the stories in the current edition of the SF magazine Analog. One of the characters in the story is said to make music videos that she posts on the web. One of the shows she uses for this is House because of the "slashy subtext".

So Salon, in addition to having Kal Penn rightly listed as sexy in an adorkable way, has a writer outing her celeb-crush on Hugh Laurie. Not the greatest fare, even if she is totally justified in her crush, but then I saw this: Mostly what appeals is his hilarious self-deprecation. Despite the fact that his former Cambridge classmate and girlfriend, Emma Thompson, once described Laurie as "one of those rare people who manages to be lugubriously sexy, like a well-hung eel," he doesn't agree. He told Britain's Now magazine: "I recently did a shower scene and it was one of the most traumatic events of my life. It struck me as a misuse of resources because the producers have gone to the trouble of hiring young, beautiful people with smooth skin and high bottoms and they go and pick the old guy with buns of yogurt." I like this. If you're going to self-lacerate, at least be kind of fun about it. Whoa- what? Was this in a movie? Or is there supposed to be a shower scene in House? The link is here.

vitawash99- 12-01-2008

I believe that was referring to the shower scene in Distractions.

Ohhhh, heh, my bad. I was thinking this was a recent quote. God, I haven't watched season two in forever.

So Salon, in addition to having Kal Penn rightly listed as sexy in an adorkable way, has a writer outing her celeb-crush on Hugh Laurie. The link is here. Interesting that she compares Laurie to Morrissey, former lead singer of The Smiths. Her quote: "Laurie is the grown-up version of your teenage Morrissey crush, perfect for those of us who sexually imprinted on this type of hunky British gloomster in adolescence." I was listening to an old radio review about the ABOF&L DVD release and one of the announcers talked about how watching ABOF&L in the late '80s and early '90s was a must-watch alternative television act for him, and then added, especially after The Smiths broke up. Don't know why, just think that's funny. I never would have made that kind of connection...but I also don't know The Smiths all that well or Morrissey.

Namaste- 12-01-2008

FYI, if the quote sounds familiar, the Salon article is from May '07.

Has anyone watched the "Children's Hospital" web series? TV Guide says "Fans of ER, House, and St. Elsewhere will notice no-so-subtle jabs at their favorite fictitious practitioners" eta: oh, I guess it doesn't start until the 8th. TV Guide didn't make that clear :) The trailer is here on thewb.com.

amysusanne- 12-02-2008

The cast is awesome, so I plan to watch. The only thing I caught from the first trailer I saw (which is probably the same one linked) was that Megan Mullally is an amped up Kerry Weaver. Didn't notice anything "House" related, though it's shot like "Scrubs". Which, I guess, didn't make the list, so nevermind. I figured it would be a lot like "Green Wing", but if they're taking actual shots at/parodying parts of those shows it could be interesting.

HL will be hosting the December 13 SNL (Kanye West is the musical guest). Hot off the press release1
