So "House" is owned by NBC?! It's an NBCUni production. Obviously there are plenty of hands in the pot, but NBC controls how it's distributed beyond airings on the FOX network, which includes syndication, the USA repeats and the online downloads.

HL got an ultra-short name check by Eddie Izzard in today's Guardian. I think I've read the interview before - or it could be that it's just supremely bland...

hwshipper- 09-29-2007

There was a small cartoon caricature of HL in yesterday's (Friday) Guardian, accompanying the non-story about his novel being not yet written. I could try & scan if anyone's interested, or perhaps its already out there somewhere.

It's a story when someone doesn't write a novel? :puzzled:

hwshipper- 09-29-2007

Well, a non-story IMO. But it got the cartoon pic so hey. http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,2178878,00.html ETA: didn't mean to mislead; cartoon pic is not on website, just story. (non-story).

It's a story when someone doesn't write a novel? :puzzled: It is when Amazon has had the release date listed as Sep 20-somethingth, 2007 for a while and certain parts of the fandom have been going nuts 'cause no one seems to know what's going on with the book. Except, you know, the people who've been saying for months if not years that it isn't going to be out in Sep 2007...

She was the gal who got dissed the "who wore it better" section. She looked beautiful, as did Natasha Henstridge, the "winner" of the "who wore it better" cage match. I find that nine times out of ten the more popular actor or actress wil win but sometimes it will be the way the person is depected in the photo. If they have one with the person standing very straight looking regal and one who is a little slouched thent eh one standing straight will win. It's bull IMO. BTW, Amazon Unbox has Alone available for free this weekend if anyone wants a legal download Only if you are in the States It is interesting to note that Law and Order SVU has not shown up anywhere yet.

On the clip for tomorrow night's Family Guy episode that's on the Fox website, House is mentioned. Meg tries working as a phone sex operator but isn't very good at it. Example: her answer to "What would you do to me?" is "Maybe we could order a pizza and watch House." :)

BTW, Amazon Unbox has Alone available for free this weekend if anyone wants a legal download Only if you have a PC. Why do they always forget about Mac users?

TrooperCam- 09-29-2007

Only if you have a PC. Why do they always forget about Mac users. Payback for the whole ITunes mess? Kind of made me mad as well since I am currently on the Mac while waiting for the interweb to hook up the PC. Screw them all, I know how to get it anyways :) amazon now has the Paper Soldier listed as unavailable but it is still a recommendation based on my past purchases.

You can also do a direct to TiVo download.

Wow, going by this Media Week story, House is a bargain for advertisers. (CSI, too.) Avg. cost of 30 second ads: 1&2. American Idol, $700K 3. Grey's Anatomy, $465K 7. Simpsons, $300K 7. 24, $300K 9. CSI, $290K 9. House, $290K

AI should kind of be in it's own little category since, as a show, it's all about marketing in the first place. It's impressive how much money they make, but not surprising. And it doesn't surprise me that GA commands that kind of money (Thursday is more expensive than Tuesday) but it does surprise me that there's that big of a drop between GA and CSI. Wow. Are their demos really that different? I mean, I know more young people watch GA than watch CSI, but still...is their that big of a gap in viewers? I'd imagine that CSI has more than it's fair share of car buying, ipod listening movie goers. That's kind of amazing.

The last time I looked at iTunes, they had all the eps from the first three seasons of House available for download in M4V format, perfect for Macs. (Which is good, because I'm too stupid to operate a PC...) I think they're all 1.99 each, as usual.

I'd imagine that CSI has more than it's fair share of car buying, ipod listening movie goers. That's kind of amazing. There's more to demographics than age. Doesn't GA have higher numbers of female viewers than shows like CSI, and I know I've read that House has strong numbers in male viewers. Would this skew the cost for ads? Also, would the general 'buzz' a show generates bump up the amount a network can charge for ads or is it a matter of pure number of viewers? What other demo factors do they use when selling ads? Oh, and how come Thursdays cost more than Tuesdays? Have answers to these questions ready to hand in tomorrow, and they will be included on next week's quiz.
